Dolly and Beyond
Current mood: bouncy
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities
Well its been and gone, all those months of waiting and its over! What I hear you wonder? Well the lovely Dolly Parton thats what!!
We headed down to Manchester to see the little country munchkin on Tuesday, Kev was meeting us there as he was working at a college in the Wirral and arrived 10 minutes before us. As we were there early we went to the Printworks to get something to eat. Passing the Arena on the way we bumped into Mandi and her new beau, she was working the event and rushed over to see us nearly dislocating my jaw in the process of flinging her arms around me!
The Printworks was busy full of matronly ladies in pink flashing cowboy hats, after finding somewhere with available space and one of Kates little strops we ate and had a few beers with Rob who popped down to meet Kate which cheered her up a bit. Next thing we knew time had flown by and we headed over to the arena. Mandi was looking after our section so we spent some more time catching up and having a gossip before she came on stage.
Absolutely loved it, though we were a little towards the back but we could still see them She sang all the good stuff, Little sparrow, Here you come again, Coat of many colours, Jolene, 9 to 5 and I will always love you to name but some, interspersed with some funny if well rehearsed dialogue " it takes a lot of money to look this cheap" one of her more well known quotes but who cares she had the audience eating out of her hand. The only downfall was no Kenny Rogers to duet with her on Islands in the stream but hey you cant have everything.
Kev was somewhat less than impressed than the rest of us but he insists he had a good time But he had had a very long day and was tired so i'll let him off. It's not everyday you get to see a living legend!!!
Still no puppy btw but im in no rush, besides it interferes with my winning streak at the New Road Inn pub quiz 7 weeks undefeated take that my nemesis!!!!!!!!!

Happenings
Current mood: mischievous
Category: Blogging
Just a quick update, had a rather good weekend, went out friday night with Kev, Wayne and his ex, trawled around the bars after spending most of the night in the New Road Inn, headed over to the club for a short spell (well i say a short spell but i looked at the time and it was 3.45am) A little perturbed by this as I was in work at 1pm we headed off to trades for a nightcap then a pizza then home and in bed for 5 amish!
Saturday in work with the hangover from hell was no fun consequently I didnt move from the sofa when i got in
Sunday saw me sneak out of work early so that we could go for a pub lunch and then a few drinkies around town, Taboo, The Bag, Pepes, DT, Mardi's (just in time for then entertainment!! Hurrah! )Then off to The New Road Inn where Kev could have his weekly dose of Kareoke. He says he cant sing anymore but he still has the best voice in there I think and though I was a wee bit squiffy I still managed to avoid getting up myself (Result!)
We are looking for a puppy aswell spent hours scanning the rescue shelters to find some poor wee mutt in need of a good home, though I think i'd prefer a wire haired jack russell! Will let you know how we get on.
Tonight were off to see Dolly Parton at the MEN Arena in Manchesterford cant wait for that, meeting Kev there as he's at a college in the Wirral, plus he'll need moral support going in there, bet he'll have a good night though!
Right thats me for a bit.

Current mood: chipper
Category: Parties and Nightlife
Well what can I say it's Festival time again!!!! Tickets have been booked, essential items have been worked out and the line up looks good can't wait for it!
Yes you may have guessed it's the V Festival again, Dawn getting very excited already, book tickets or else lady! Looking forward to Lily Allen, the Happy Mondays, Mika not to mention getting a little squiffy over the weekend!
We have booked a hotel for the night before so me Greta and Kev can go down and bag a good camping spot for ourselves and the rest of the gang; no doubt we shall chill champagne and toast marshmallows awaiting their arrival! More than likely hit the Village and end up legless trying to put the tents up in the dark!
Roll on August!!!!!!

My Old Stomping Ground!
Category: Life
Picture it Valentines weekend 2007 Kev booked us into the Piccadilly Hotel in Manchester for the night. We had tickets to go and see Will Young in the Noel Coward play The Vortex. A delightfully camp romp through the hedonistic days of the 1920's drugs sex and the Charleston! Actually it was a really good play and I'd highly recommend the Exchange Theater as a venue to go and see anything its a bit quirky and mage a huge change from the usual night out.
After the play we quickly returned to the hotel before heading over to the village for a massive pub crawl through all of my old haunts! We did the lot and ended up rather trashed to put it mildly, but it was good to return to the scene of many a crime. We ended up in Napoleons at the end of the night, not the same without Ernie sadly no longer with us. Lots of happy memories though.
Returning to the hotel after the most disgusting pizza ever (though I did give it a good go) we collapsed in a heap.
We awoke the next morning with Kev having welded his contacts to his eyeballs so I had to do a mercy mission to Boots for some eye drops. Eye drops instilled and with eyesight nearly to normal we headed over to the Art Gallery for a look around then over to Castlefield via the tram for a wander about eventually walking back the length of the canal past the Hacienda (happy days!) back to Canal Street where we had brunch at Via Fossa before heading over to the Odeon at the Printworks to watch Hot Fuzz. Really funny in a daft kids kind of way but just what the Dr ordered with a hangover!
Made it home in time for tea and an early night!
Thanks babe! X

Flamingos First Birthday
Well it's been a whole year since the old club closed and the new one opened, I remember the opening weekend well four nights out on the lash and a great time had by all.
The 1st birthday was no letdown the place was heaving no doubt Basil made a killing on the door £12 entry fee I nearly passed out! But for that we got fire eaters, the lovely Blazen on stilts along with the other stilt walkers and the Sugababes!!!!!!!!! Wicked performance it has to be said more than justified the £12 fee then to cap it all there I am having a wee in the loo and who should be waggling his willy about at the next urinal but Lenny Henry!!! The sights you see when you haven't got your camera handy eh? Wonder if Dawn French knows? Hmmm!
Arrived home at 8am after a jaunt to a local after hours drinking establishment somewhat the worse for wear (thank you Douglas!) where we collapsed and slept till the middle of the afternoon. A Good night had by all!!! Unfortunately it wasn't such a good afternoon for some, Kev spent most of it with his head down the toilet with the worst hangover of his life never seen him look so rough! And I had to get my act together for the night shift where I am now. Can't wait for the morning to come im knackered!

Cocks Close (fnar fnar!)
Once again we returned to Cocks Close (love the name!) out little farmhouse in the lakes for New Year. We arrived on New Years Eve to be greeted by Jayne, Ian, Rob and Russell and her now traditional mulled wine. Lynzi and Kate arrived shortly afterwards and we all started throwing down the old vino as we did last year in front of a lovely open fire.
Far more civilised than paying extortionate club entrance fees and doing the same thing that we normally do on a weekly basis! Lots of fresh air, a charming walk up in the hills (well to the bottom of the hill across the field, it looked closer than it was) and then on with the festivities. New Year was spent letting off fireworks in the middle of the lawn and then getting more pissed than were were to start off with! (Im sure there's nothing in the firework code about having a drink before you let em off!)
We spent the next two nights there enjoying the peace and quiet (no mobile signal bliss!!!!) and celebrated Lynzi's 31st birthday at a lovely pub in Ambleside before heading home and coming back to reality and work with a bump!

Christmas Time Missing Toes and Wine
Spent the lead up to Christmas at my folks house with the kids and Kev, let them open their Christmas present early so I could have a play with it basically. I'd bought them a rocket launcher, one of those you fill with water and pump up before letting them loose on the unsuspecting public namely a little old lady who was out walking her dog as a mini exorcet flew past her and the owners of a dodgy looking car who nearly lost a windscreen to the afore mentioned missile! The kids loved em but not as much as me and Kev did im sure!
Got home on the Sunday night just in time to pop to the New Road Inn for a few festive drinkies and a spot of karaoke though not too many unfortunately as I had to be up early! Well I say that but in reality I had rather more than a few and staggered home to raid the stack of presents under the tree, by the time I finished I had a lovely load of presents that Santa had left and the living room looked like we had had burglars!
Well what can I say really Christmas day was spent working, fourteen hours to be exact, luckily the ward was quiet save for one poor soul who was causing a bit of grief, despite the best efforts of various sedatives and the security team he decided to do a bunk out the fire exit which prompted me to do my Linford Christie impression around the block after him much to the amusement of my colleagues! Not so amusing for the poor taxi driver who looked terrified at the sight of a semi clad man banging on the window of his car being chased by me and security whilst trying desperately to drive off at high speed with the guy trying to hang on desperately to the handle of the taxi door!
Thankfully my shift ended and I was promptly whisked away to my little sisters house for a few sweet sherries and a mince pie or two where Kev had spent the day suffering at the hands of Kate and Lynzi's soap addiction. Still at least he had a good Christmas dinner which is more than can be said for me!
Several drinks later and I was merrily on my way and had caught up rather successfully with the others! All in all a good end to a rather strange day!

Nites Out
Current mood: content
Category: Parties and Nightlife
Well having suffered greatly for the last few weeks it was finally time to get my ass back in gear and get out and about. Poor Kev has been suffering cabin fever due to my enforced inability to leave the house due to my recent surgery so when he mentioned that he wanted to go see a girl that he knows play in a band at the Tower Lounge I said ok. Now then if you've ever been to Blackpool the Tower Lounge is the hellhole that various hen and stag parties gravitate towards and end up ratarsed and vomiting at lunchtime so you can imagine my delight at the choice of venue for my first post operative venture!
Well we got there to find that it was actually a competition wth four bands playing Kev's friends band hadn't been on yet so we grabbed a much welcomed pint and listened to whoever it was playing. Looking around the place I was a bit suprised it reminded me of my student days at the Ritz in Manchester and not a hen or stag in sight! Then I noticed my lodger Joannes boyfriend Mike sat there having a pint, next thing he goes and gets on stage and starts setting up for the next band which in fact turned out to be his and Kevs mates band. (small world eh? ) Anyway went and said a quick hello and waited around for them to play, and they were really good it has to be said I was seriously impressed and guess what they won the heat! So will be going back on Friday to see them again!
Leaving there we headed over to the usuall haunts becoming more and more merry as the evening went on finally ending up a bit buggered in the club! All in all a good night!
Consequently the next morning I was feeling a little jaded, in fact I had the hangover from hell, but had agreed to go to Manchester for the day shopping, luckily our first stop there was the Christmas Market where I had a hair of the dog namely a gluhwine with a shot of rum in it. Slightly more fotified by the wine and a rather large German sausage we had a great day wandering around all my old haunts including my second home in the village Via Fossa (ah memories) Shopping over we returned home via a rather large detour through the wilds of the north west in an atempt to find Wigan|! (Cheers for that Kev!)
Having watched the X Factor we decided to pop out for a quick half, so we hit Taboo, DT and then the Bag where we bumped into Chris and Steve who said that my sis and her Girlfriend were coming out for a swift sherry following going to see the Charlatans so we ended up waiting for them to arrive and consequently got a wee bit tiddly. From there we toddled off to Taboo again where I bumped into Ben and his mate Kev and continued to get totally trollied for the rest of the night.
Needless to say Sunday was spent in a coma!

Catchup time
Current mood: amused
Well here goes nothing, not blogged in absolutely ages so excuse me if I go off on a tangent at some point!!! First off a little Bridget Jones catch up
Fags. Ive quit thank god!!!
- Drink. Cant get enough though it doesnt agree with me!
- Travel. Majorca in June and Rome, Naples and Pompeii in November
- Work. Same old same old!
- Love Life. Definitely on the up.
- Festivals . V. God love it!!!
- Concerts. The Scissor Sisters in Trafalgar Square
- Tattoo's. 3 new ones!!
As you can see been a bit busy since I last updated, I have added pics in the album so you can have a nosey at what I've been up to, though thankfully not pics of everything i've been up to, i'm not sure msn would allow some of em!
Where shall I begin? Lets start with Majorca, went there in June with my sister Lynzi and her other half Kate plus Chris. Well after the flight which was fun as Lynzi and Kate have major flying issues and the queue for the car rental we finally made it out of the airport detouring slightly off our path in the dark via a gypsy camp which wasnt our brightest idea. Have you ever seen From Dusk till Dawn? Well if you have you'll know what I mean, lucky to escape with our lives we finally made it to our hotel to be told it was overbooked and we were being shunted to another, this as you can imagine at 1am having escaped with our lives from a bar on the Mexican border was the last straw. Luckily for us the other hotel turned out to be nicer than the original one and they upgraded us to free meals so we were happy, nice pool, not too many screaming kids, and lovely tall glasses filled to the brim with Jack Daniels and Coke at every available opportunity. Add to that the cheapest cocktails around , the funniest entertainment "du bist ein skelete" and the wierdest version of the Rocky horror Picture Show i've ever born witness to. Lovely week all round lots of nice food , bit of underground caving though very disapointed I didn't see any pigs in the Caves of Ham, a sunburnt arse and far to many hangovers and a row of seats to myself to sleep in on the flight home. Hurrah for Majorca!
Ok next the V Festival my fouth year there Lynzi's silver jubilee I think and Dawn and Carls second though I dont think we should count last year at all as me and Dawn were soooooooo wrecked we dont recall a lot of it (am I with you?)(see pics from last year) Anyway Kev came with me meeting us there in the evening! Brave lad had only met me once or twice before and decided to throw himself into things by meeting my mates and sis all in one go when we were all a bit bladdered! Anyway good time had by all lots of music and merryment, Girls aloud, Keane, Fatboyslim, Magic Numbers, Charlatans etc and dancing like a twat at Hed Kandi. Strange sights including the girl with the giant penis, the cavemen from last year and the funniest guy in the Lynx manwash. Lots of random conversations around the capsite at night involving poo taches, apparently Kate gets them all the time!!!, large ostriches, and the song that goes do do do do stella! (thanks Emsie) Finally got home Monday stinking to high heaven but the bath more than made up for the lack of showering over the weekend! Roll on next year!!!
Ah The Scissor Sisters concer in Trafalgar Square. Kev won the tickets in a competition , freebies to the Red concert a one off gig to promote Bono's charity to provide AIDS medication to Africa a noble cause I think you'll agree. Anyhoo wicked night involving much fun on bluetooth with obscene pics with a couple of girls we were talking to not to mention Nana moon dressed as a superhero. Then low and behold the godess that is Ms Kylie Minogue appeared in all her glory introducing the band on stage followed by the best concert i've seen since last time I saw em play! Afterwards a wee trip down to Soho for a few beers, Admiral Duncan, Garlic and Shots and GAY Bar then on to KT's house where we were staying. Slightly tidly at this point as confirmed by my attempts to pole dance on the tube, we decided a kebab was in order (what else would one eat when wrecked?) No Kebab house but a rather strange man in leather shorts beconing us from the doorway of a bar saying " don't mess with me boy!" who am I to argue? Went in and had the best laugh of the night very camp affair! though I did try to sell Kev for a pack of fags (god I was in need of one then). Next day somewhat hungover drove home via my folks who had taped the concert for us so we could see it again not to mention the sunday roast!!!
What next? Well its got to be the trip to Rome and Naples, flew out there on the Saturday having had a bit of a fireworks display with the kids the night before at my folks house! Nice flight though marred by the lack of sedation and the lack of sleep from the night before. Arrived in rome and headed off to look around after dumping the bags. Found the Trevi Fountain tossed in coin as is the law in these parts to ensure a safe return to Rome, then headed off on a walk Kev had found in the guidebook. Discovered the Pantheon and the tomb of Donatello, where the other teenage mutant ninja turtles are buried is anyones guess (no-one even told me he had died) After performing a marathon walk around the city and much shopping for pants etc we decided to take a power nap. Nap over we took the tube to the Coliseum which has it's own station how clever of the Ancient Romans to put one in very handy for transporting christians to the lions. Anyway lots of pictures later and another major walk around the old Forum and up lots of steps we took the bus to Termini , an interesting affair in which I became very friendly with someones hand, god knows who but I fear I may be pregnant! Getting off it was time to eat so stuffed ourselves silly and collapsed in a lovely little bar run by some Roman Lesbians ( nice tattoo's ) before finally getting to sleep.
The next day we awoke and headed off to the Popes house for tea, unfortunately he hadn't received my note saying I was coming and had gone to Turkey, luckily he left the key under the mat so we let ourselves in, nice place, looked like Lauwrence Llewellin Bowen had run amok in there and some rather interesting statues of the Pope sunning his legs! Lots of nuns and priests running around suprisingly, being the vatican. Bought myself a rather interesting calendar for next year featuring various sexy priests (loving March and August!)strange but true! Left there and headed over the Tiber and off to lunch where Kev bough a genuine Rolex for €25 bargain! Another mamoth walk ensued where we ended up at the Spanish Steps. Disapointed they were actually steps and not a cheesy pop group from Madrid we carried on shopping where Kev went wild in D&G and bought some pants following the largest pint of beer in the world (not to mention the most expensive) From there we headed back to the room dropped our stuff off and headed out for cocktails and to sample the dlights of Romes nightlife. Needless to say it was a wierd and wonderful affair, very drunken as my hangover the next day was testament to, and somewhat debauched but the less said about that the better but hey when in Rome!
Having got in at 5am we weren't looking forward to the train at 8.30 am but we made it to the station although I was feeling like I could puke at any minute as the train lurched out of Rome and headed south to Naples. A few hours later and several bottles of water (sadly no paracetamol) we arrived at Naples to find a rather busy little city crammed with cars and houses and lots of lovely shops on our walk to the hostel. By the time we got to the place I was several €'s lighter and feeling a wee bit better for the retail therapy. Lunch was in order so having dropped the bags off and showered we headed around the corner to a wee restaurant where this delightful old man served us and told us tales of his time aboard ship, this did not go down well as we were still a little jaded and had the fear that we were about to drop dead from starvation as he prattled on! Food devoured we walked it off by having a leisuely stroll around the bay of Naples where we became the pied piper of dogs in the locale for some reason with 5 of em coming over and flopping down at our feet must have been that aftershave! Deciding we couldnt go on any further despite the lovely scenery we headed for the bus back to the centre for a power nap. Nap over we walked and toured the backstreets of Naples looking for a restaurant that would feed us and resolve my instiable appetite (I hate the munchies the day after) Not much else that evening early night was in order!
Up early the next day and a 40minute train trip around the base of Vesuvius led us to Pompeii, stunning place much better than i'd imagined wandered for hours around its old buildings and houses not to mention the whorehouse where little pictures on the walls told you what you could expect from the girls and no doubt boys behind the doors, the little theatre was stunning as were the frescos in the houses and the beware of the dog sign written in mosaic on the floor near the entrance of the door. Hard to believe this was all buried by Vesuvius as it seemed so far away god help Naples if it went up again! We headed back to Naples to catch our train to Rome, a private compatment where the seats turned into beds , lovely snored all the way back to Rome much to the suprise of the guard as he popeed his head in to check the ticket! Arriving safely in Rome again (see the Trevi Fountain coin throwing incident does work!) we decided on a spot of last minute shopping and a few late drinks back at the lesbian bar before turning in ready for our return flight in the morning. Not a bad trip all in all!
