Gorezone Magazine Interviews Me!
Current mood: ecstatic
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

Recently, the excellent Gorezone Magazine interviewed me for an article on the state of horror today. I thought it would be fun for you guys to read the interview in its entirety, though, as they'll just be little snippets of it in Gorezone's article.

Many thanks to Christian Sellers at Gorezone for making this happen and for giving Fatally-Yours.com permission to repost the interview. If you haven't yet checked out Gorezone Magazine, which is published in the UK, you can find it at many bookstores here in the states, including Barnes & Nobel and Borders! Pick one up today…it'll definitely be worth your while!

And keep reading to find out more about me!

Gorezone: How old were you when you first developed an interest in horror and which film in particular sparked that interest?

Fatally Yours: I was always drawn to the darker side when I was growing up, but I stuck more to reading horror novels like Stephen King's books instead of watching horror movies. I didn't really get into horror films until high school, when I watched The Texas Chain Saw Massacre for the very first time…and was blown away by its brutality. After recovering from shell-shock, I was completely hooked on horror! I even went on to write my thesis in college on TCM!

Revenant Magazine Interviews Me!
Current mood: fabulous
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

From Fatally-Yours.com:

A few weeks ago we had the pleasure of interviewing Revenant Magazine's own deaditor-in-chief, Mister Geoff Bough (click here for interview). Geoff is an eloquent and passionate horror fan who was an absolute pleasure to interview.

Since those who love horror gotta stick together, Revenant in turn interviewed our own ghastly ghoul who runs this spook shack...our own Fatally Yours! Fatally Yours founded Fatally-Yours.com and runs it independently as well as contributing many reviews and articles.

See what makes her skin crawl in the Revenant Magazine interview by clicking the banner below!

Yay me!

I also did an interview for an article in Gorezone Magazine that I'll post in its entirety in a few days! I'm so excited!

Thank you all for your tremendous support, as always!

Keep doin' it "for the love of horror!"

Viscera 2008 Film Festival - Just for the Chicks!!
Current mood: ecstatic
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

VISCERA 2008 Film Festival
A Festival Just for the Chicks
Deadline: December 31st, 2008
www.thechainsawmafia.com

The VISCERA Film Festival, a fest produced by horror production company The Chainsaw Mafia, is currently accepting submissions for 2008. VISCERA is a Film Festival for women directed/produced productions with an emphasis on women only productions.

VISCERA's Film Festival director, Shannon Lark, created the Festival after getting a group of her friends together to make a film. "VISCERA is intended to help beginning female horror filmmakers jump into the gigantic bucket of blood and guts, get their feet wet, and really find out if it's a career choice they want to make," says Lark.

To maximize the potential of each Filmmaker, VISCERA hands out an annual VISCERA Award, a monetary prize of $200, to one production consisting completely of the female gender. Other awards include internet distribution and the several Sponsors and Film Festivals that have teamed up with the Chainsaw Mafia to promote the films and the Artists. Website Sponsors (Fatally-Yours.com is a proud sponsor) are currently viewing the VISCERA 2007 DVD, along with Sponsoring Film Festivals viewing the films for a potential screening at their next festival.

Demand a Theatrical Release for Midnight Meat Train!
Current mood: determined
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

Troubling news has hit the horror front the last few days. The buzz is that Lionsgate will dump the highly anticipated Midnight Meat Train in a very limited theatrical release (100 theaters or less across the country) before shuffling it off to for quicky DVD release.

You, along with hundreds of thousands of other horror fans, have been eagerly anticipating this hard-R rated film that promised us the solid story of Clive Barker, buckets of grue and, most of all, something different amid all the remakes, disappointments and PG-13 films.

Yet, now we might not even be able to watch this hotly anticipated film on the big screen thanks to nothing but alleged internal feuding at Lionsgate.

There is something we as fans can do, though, because the almighty dollar speaks louder than any grudge…

Below we've reposted an email that has been circulating lately, an impassioned plea from a fellow horror fan urging YOU to get involved in persuading Lionsgate that Midnight Meat Train deserves a wider theatrical release.

Read on fellow horror fans, and act today!

UPDATED: Friday the 13th Battle of Blood Contest!!!
Current mood: electric
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

What movie made you fear having pre-marital sex? What movie made skinny dipping a death sentence? And what movie made us fear every Canadian who played hockey?

Friday the 13th!!

That right people, it's coming up quick like college kid's… er, um…you get the picture. The yearly holiDIE that commemorates the bastard child of an American slasher film: Friday the 13th or, to be exact for this year, June 13th, 2008!!

To celebrate this infamous date, we here at Fatally-Yours.com would love for all you F13 freaks to enlist in our…drum roll please…

F13: BATTLE OF BLOOD!!

Okay, your assignment is to photograph yourself, and/or others (the more unwilling the better) depicting a scene from any of the original Friday the 13th movies. Be as creative as you want but the picture must accurately display a memorable shot from one of the films.

UPDATE: To make it a bit easier, we will also accept screen captures from the Friday the 13th movies, BUT you must come up with a VERY clever caption! Extra points for a LOL caption (for an example see the photo above).

The more realistic and the more creative the better. Funny, gory, silly, terrifying, campy (hehe…pardon the pun)…it's up to you how to make it! We want to honor the slasher, not just copy him. Make sure you add a clever caption to grab our attention as well! The picks of the litter will be posted on the site, which means when you enter, your entry will become property of Fatally-Yours.com for us to do with as we like! Mwahahahaha!

Okay, okay…quit whining 'bout what you're gonna win, we'll just tell ya:

  • Super Secret Prize Pack from our friends at Dance Party Massacre!! Read our Gory Gear article about DPM here to see what kinda goodies you're in store for! Please note that their shirts in men's run only up to L and only a few of their lady's shirts come in XL.
  • Super Sleazy Fatally-Yours.com Schwag, including an exclusive Fatally Yours shirt!!
  • A copy of Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th by Peter Bracke, the definitive hardbound book for Friday the 13th fans!!
  • …and some other crap we fished out of the lake…

Mother dearest...

So grab your camera and some victims and show us your respect for yo' momma, Mrs. Voorhees!

The deadline to enter is Friday, June 20, 2008 at 11:59pm.

Send your scary submissions to: sarah@fatally-yours.com, along with your name, mailing address and t-shirt size.

All entries become property of Fatally-Yours.com.

U.S. entries only, please!

"Ki, Ki, Ki, Ma, Ma, Ma"

Please help spread the red and REPOST!!

Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors Report
Current mood: adventurous
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

Fatally Yours Welcomes You!

By Fatally Yours

This year's Fangoria's Weekend of Horrors in Southern California marked the first year the horror convention was held at the L.A. Convention Center. Organizers Creation Entertainment and Fangoria Magazine wanted to give more fans the opportunity to attend the usually sold out event. Also, the bigger space meant more vendors would be there, enticing attendees with their gore-drenched goods!

The intentions were good, and the larger venue would have fit a heck of a lot more fans, if only those fans had actually shown up! Unfortunately, this year's event was pretty barren of attendees. Whether it was the change of venue, lack of big horror movies or stars at the event, attendance was definitely down this year.

You can find pics of the event in my photo section under the "Fangoria Weekend of Horros" folder!

Happy Earth Day!
Current mood: amorous
Category: Life

What are you doing to celebrate Earth Day? What are you doing to make a difference EVERY day?  I believe it's super-important for everyone to start doing something positive for the place we call home...because we only have one!!

What am I doing to help and make a difference on this beautiful planet we call home? For starters, I'm not just active on Earth Day, but try to be pro-active and eco-friendly EVERY day!

I've stopped eating meat and using animal products (which cuts down on pollution, isn't wasteful [do you know it takes 16 lbs. of grain just to make 1 lb. of meat??], helps the environment [cuts down on deforestation that makes room for grazing land, grazing land for cattle grown for slaughter leads to destruction of ecosystems, etc., etc.], doesn't exploit animals, etc., etc…seriously, there are hundreds upon hundreds of benefits to stop eating meat – you should read up on it), turn off lights, computers, appliances, etc. when not in use, use re-usable bags at grocery stores (I prefer shopping at Trader Joe's because of their excellent high standards for environmentally friendly groceries), reuse and recycle, use non-toxic, biodegradable household cleaners, and of course help spread the "green" word!!

PETA2.com

It's so easy to get into our complacent and lazy routines, but it's equally easy to realize things need to change and to actually MAKE those changes! Little things (like turning off lights when not in use) are super-easy to do and can have a big impact! If everyone just did a little, the effect would be tremendous!

And, seriously, I'm not trying to get all hippy-dippy on you, but things are getting pretty bad for the environment (it's pretty obvious...just look outside or on the news) and everyone should do their part to care for the planet and its creatures. Everyone bears responsibility and everyone should make their voice heard!!

Check out these handy sites:
National Geographic's The Green Guide
The Sierra Club's The Green Life
10 Ways to Go Green and Save by WorldWatch Institute
Pew Center for Global Climate Change
10 First Steps Toward Lighter Living

Also check out the amazing documentary The 11th Hour.., hosted by Leonardo DiCaprio. It's only $4.99 and will definitely convince you that our planet is in peril.

Happy Earth Day and let me know what you plan on doing today (and the rest of your life to make an impact!!

Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors Roll Call!!
Current mood: animated
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

I'll be heading to Fangoria's Weekend of Horrors at the LA Convention Center next weekend and was curious, who else is planning on going?

I've been going back and forth between going and not going, and figure it's worth the drive up the freeway to hang out with like-minded horror fans and meet some fellow journalists/filmmakers/horror lovers I greatly admire but haven't had the pleasure of meeting yet (as well as hanging out with ones I've been lucky enough to befriend!).

I was debating not going because I feel so out-of-place at these events...I'm not big at networking and I hate approaching other people (yes, call me a scaredy-cat all you want)! On the other hand, I love going to the panels, watching the flicks, checking out the merch booths and meeting people, most whom I've only "talked" to on Myspace.

The verdict: I'm going...

So, if you are going to the Weekend of Horrors and you see me wandering around, PLEASE do not hesitate to come say hi!!! I love meeting fellow horrorphiles!

Just look for the girl in the Fatally-Yours.com shirt, probably wearing the same enthralled expression!!:

And let me know below if you're going or not!!

Hope to see many of you there!

DOOMSDAY review (or, get off your ass and go see this now!!)
Current mood: cantankerous
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

Review by Fatally Yours

Neil Marshall is known for scaring the pants off his audience. His previous two films, the frightening The Descent and the suspenseful Dog Soldiers, showed us his skill with the horror genre and both films were acclaimed by critics and fans alike.

Marshall’s third film, Doomsday, is a fast-paced, sci-fi action thriller that is very different from his first two efforts. It shows his diversity as a writer and director and shows he can pull off a high octane, visually arresting and wholeheartedly entertaining post-apocalyptic action thriller...[KEEP READING!]

Seriously, why did this open in f**%ing 7th place this past weekend?? It feels like Grindhouse all over again...we are given a supercool movie that kicks ass, and no one turns up to see it, instead opting for crap like Never Back Down and College Road Trip? No wonder Hollywood keeps churning out such painful, uninspired drivel...stupid people keep paying big bucks to see it!!

This shiznit right here really ticks me off...especially when people opt to see the above mentioned blights on cinema over a cool, post-apocalyptic action thriller like Doomsday that is an incredibly fun ride.

If you haven’t seen Doomsday yet, give yourself a treat and go see it. It’ll be a whole lot more fun than wasting $10 to see the god-awful 10,000 B.C. and later complaining about it (even though it’s your own damn fault for paying to see it despite all the horrible reviews).

Arghhhhhh!!!

Still not convinced you should see Doomsday? Click the above link to check out my review of Doomsday. If that doesn’t convince you, then I’m not sure if you’re a film fan or if you’ve ever even SEEN a movie...

In other news, I’m taking a mini-vacation (that just can’t start soon enough), but I’ll probably still be lurking around a bit.

Wish You Were Here!

Wish you were here!!

Now get your sweet ass to see Doomsday!!
