Best quote ever from a swinger

A local swingers club in Duncanville is facing some legal troubles because nearby residents think it is a disturbance. Well, here is what the owner of the Cherry Pit had to say about that:

"At 12 o'clock on Sunday, church lets out. They all flood the streets. They have to have police officers out on the street to direct traffic. There's a hazard. That causes wrecks. We don't do anything like that. We're not a nuisance... That's a nuisance,"

hah.

Nobel Peace Prize

Ok so I haven't blogged in a while, so.........

Turns out Al Gore was the co-winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. While I admire what he's done to raise awareness for global warming, I hardly think it is worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize. Global warming doesn't have anything to do with peace, not directly anyway. If he were going to get any Nobel prize, it should have been for science, not peace. John McCain said something I actually agree with (wow), he said the Monks in Myanmar deserve the Nobel peace prize. I cannot think of a more worthy recipient, and I bet that would piss off the leadership in Myanmar.

Blogging for progress

In an effort to become a more informed American citizen, and maybe get a scholarship out of it, I have decided to blog about current events of America and the World. I've never been able to keep a blog going, so I hope this turns out well.

For my first blog I'd like to comment on a study done recently which concludes the United States is the most armed country with 90 guns per 100 people.

Here's the link:

http://www.reuters.com/article/topNews/idUSL2834893820070828?feedType=RSS&feedName=topNews&rpc=22&sp=true

So what can be said about a country with 90 guns per 100 people?

I am not a gun advocate. A gun may actually be more of a disadvantage to me as I would be unwilling to use it (unless it's in a videogame of course). I am, however, an advocate of the Second Amendment. Owning a gun is a personal freedom and as long as one proves themselves capable of handling firearms I see no problem with gun owners. That said, I still think 90 guns per 100 people in the country sounds like a high percentage to me. Perhaps it's because obtaining a gun in this country, whether it be legally or illegally, is too easy. I've never been through the process of obtaining a permit for a gun, but with such a high percentage it must not be too difficult.

A common sentiment shared by gun advocates is more guns leads to a safer society. I do not quite agree with this. It leads to more opportunities for all the wrong people to own guns, could possibly result in an increase in gun related casualties, and (in my opinion) is the wrong direction to take in becoming a civilized nation.

I just got a present for Macsine. For anyone who doesn't know, Macsine is my Mac Mini that saved my life from a crappy computer. Though I've alwasy noticed she doesn't run that fast, so i'm going to do a little upgrade.

I've never opened up my mac mini before so this should be interesting...

Late 4th of July Blog

I was going to do this yesterday, but I just....didn't for some reason. Anyways, I was going to make a long rant about the current state of America, but I think this will do, happy late bday America.

A Velvet Resurrection by The Legendary Pink Dots

I want to believe in the nobility of the human spirit. I want to believe
that mankind is essentially good and that the horror I see and the
horrors I hear about are simply the last crisis of a dying spectre that
has haunted our fragile globe for just too long. I want to believe that
we are about to peel off the mask with which this spiteful god has been
frightening us. I want to believe that we will not dance on his defeated
rotting body for that would grant him victory in death. I want to
believe that we will peel away the masks with which we frighten each
other. I want to believe that no new spectre will replace the one that
died and that we can stand alone and respect one another love one
another, respect and cherish life in all its shapes and sizes while
continuing to evolve. I want to believe that mankind will never be too
arrogant to abandon it's quest for the ultimate answer. I want to
believe that even I could answer this question. I want to believe all of
these things. But you caught me at a bad moment and I can't.

Pink Dots Concert

So I went to a Legendary Pink Dots concert last friday night, and I have to say it was amazing. Their live performance is an experience not attainable simply by listening to their albums. The highlight of the night was when they played Hellsville. We were so close to the stage [given there was only about 250 people there] but again I didn't take a camera. I didn't get anything signed, but I did get a pink dot sticker. All in all it was the best concert i've ever been too [out of the two i've attended anyway]. I was also amused when Cassie said "I was so hungry I kept thinking wow this is a great show and at the same time I was thinking.....tacos."

I'm a winner!
Current mood: content

So [adultswim.com] had a Venture Bros. DVD contest before the DVD came out. So I sign up not expecting to win, since I never do, but then a couple weeks later I get an email saying I was one of the winners. Sweet. No mention of a grand prize though, so I figured I just got one of the runner up prizes. Then a couple days later this arrives in the mail...

Pretty damn sweet. I can't wait for season 2.

Also, I know it's a crappy picture but I was using my camera phone and I'm a poor college student who can't afford a Sony Cybershot, damn those things are awesome.

Aside from that, I got a new job....in the same office. I no longer have to tell people "no we don't have your transcripts ok so just send them just get off the phone and send them I don't care how many times you sent it already just go do it!"
And that makes me happy.

Now back to homework, which doesn't make me happy.

Just a few things going through my head
Current mood: awake
Category: Life

So I had this dream last night that I was rolling up a big katamari, and I rolled up tom petty and the heartbreakers, wtf is that about? Anyways, i can't wait to go see how bad the da vinci code is. When I read it I thought "wow, that was kinda like reading the script to a hollywood summer blockbuster movie" and then I hear they're making a movie, sounds fitting enough. I also cannot wait for xmen, one more week!
Unlike many, I was surprised at how low the ps3 price is. Well, it costs an arm and leg, but it plays blu ray, and the blu ray players alone cost about $1000. I think sony has some real problems ahead, I don't know if this whole blu ray thing is going to work out, just like betamax.....
And now for something completely unrelated, it's really hard for me to believe all this bullshit about making english the "official" language of america. Most people speak it anyways, and there are more pressing matters at hand, why debate something so pointless?
Well, I guess that's it for now. maybe more blogs to come.....maybe

I think i'll blog more often
Current mood: stomach ache

but I always say that and it never happens. Anyways, there doesn't seem to be much going on lately. V for Vendetta was awesome, but there aren't many movies i'm excited about seeing, other than Silent Hill. New tool album comes out May 2nd, if you didn't already know, and of course new dresden dolls album soon. I need to take a trip to the comic shop later today to get the new ares comic, and study for a test tomorrow. That's about all i've got to blog about.
