Stripper on Gossip Girl

Get ready - US hit Gossip Girl is about to come to ITV2.

It’s all about the scandalous lives of privileged Manhattan prep school teens.  Blake Lively stars as resident hot girl Serena van der Woodsen. The hot boy role is filled by Chace Crawford, who plays Nate Archibald.That’s not to say the hotness is limited to those two. More on that in the eye-pleasing character gallery.

Anyway, back to the story. Serena van der Woodsen was once the posho Upper East Side’s most notorious party girl. Then she disappeared. No-one knows why, except, perhaps Gossip Girl. She’s the mysterious blogger who keeps the locals up to date with the latest news.

When Serena suddenly turns up again, everyone wonders why. And why did she do a runner in the first place?

All will be revealed in ITV2’s Gossip Girl. Except, of course, the real identity of Gossip Girl.

Live Review

Here’s a live review from last week’s Brighton show supporting Hanoi Rocks.

I’ve known about these guys for a year or so, and although I haven’t heard a great deal of their material, those few songs were strong, well recorded and original, and so I was anticipating a good show. The band didn’t disappoint. Strutting onstage, with a cheshire cat grin and perfect balance of sleaze and mystery, I originally mistake Finnish guitarist Toni Sailor for a slutty young lady, and am delighted to discover after a few minutes he is in fact a fellow. The remaining rhythm section creep into sight, with a scent of bohemia you cannot fail to be enthralled by, with large barnets and trashy cheekbones adding to the vogue of the ensemble. Then finally comes frontlady Maya Von Doll, whose petite but potentially psychotic beauty puts her leading men in their place, as she attracts the attention of the male audience members with a knowing twinkle in her eye. However, you’d be a fool to presume a few twitching loins marks the appeal of this band, as they launch into a short but effortlessly powerful set of electronic schizophrenia, perversion, sensuality, music hall and unbridled rock and roll.

Unfortunately, my limited knowledge of the band’s material means that a couple of songs are familiar, most notably the Dolls outstanding Stripper, which annihilates the senses with an erectile combination of emasculated testosterone, set to a Gary Glitter stomp, razor sharp guitars, and apocalyptic keyboards. In addition to this they display ingenuity in both performance and musical skill, as the erotic onstage chemistry between Von Doll and Sailor implies an incestuous regiment, and the seductive keys, machine gun drums and dirty glam of the set give the audience a good slab of aural pornography and vice.
