Race Results
I hope everyone is doing well!! A few people asked me how the race results are reported. Sorry to send this mass mailer, but it's interesting stuff. So, here goes. I ran in the 2008 Broad Street Run Here are my photos http://s278.photobucket.com/albums/kk107/kengregory/ It was my second time running the race I'm in a running club with staff, faculty, and students from The University of the Arts. I worked at UArts from '02 until '07 and I still train with the club when I'm available after work. The Broad Street Run is a blast. The course is 10 miles through the middle of Philadelphia. My personal time from start to finish was 1 hour 32 minutes and 26 seconds My official time was over five minutes longer. It took me 5 minutes to weave through thousands of people to get over the the starting line That issue will be dealt with differently next year, so it won't be such a problem. Over 22,000 people started the race 19,181 people finished the race My overal place was 9867 Compared to all runniers I'm at about 48% 0 is the worst and 100 is the best I want to improve for next year I want to cross over the 50% mark and hopefully break 60% Currently I average about 9:15 per mile I'd like to reduce that by one minute per mile The good news is that I improved upon my 2007 time by over 15 minutes I took the race very slowly my first time and now I'm starting to run for real. Again, the photos are publicly available here: Photobucket, http://s278.photobucket.com/albums/kk107/kengregory/ The photos are privately available here: Myspace, http://www.myspace.com/soundmankennyg Facebook, search for kengreg@gmail.com 2008 RACE RESULTS BibFNameLNameCityStateCountryAgeSexChipTimeClockTimeOverallSexPlDivPl AgeGradePace 8322 Kenneth Gregory Philadelphia PA 38 M 01:32:26 01:38:12 9867 6284 972 49.6%

I owe a lot of my progress in running to a dedicated yoga practice. It keeps me motivated, flexible, and in aligment. My body absorbs shock better than it did before. Whatever you do, do it well And don't be afraid to sweat Peace. -Ken

Kenny G in 2008
Friends and acquaintances! Fakers, shakers, and music makers. I hope you are all in good health and good spirits
I need to see a couple of rock shows. I'm sorry if I haven't been to the clubs lately. With the extended daylight I'll be headed out. Keep sending your bulletins.
The last place that I did live sound was Chris' Jazz Cafe in 2007. Around the same time I was doing musical theater in The Arts Bank and a couple of sub shifts at Khyber. That schedule no longer works with my day job so I'm not currently a soundman.
I finally have a home studio setup that works. Right now I'm taking all of my five minute songs and editing down to three minutes. It's a really eye-opening process.
I had a sinus surgery in late '07. I've been learning sing through my new head space and control my vibrato. Good stuff. I'm learning how to record myself all over again.
I bought a used Yamaha semi-hollowbody guitar that makes me very happy. The sound will be the anchor of my new recordings. You can see a glimpse of it in my new photos.
I cut-out beer in Jan 2008. Red wine is okay. Every now and then I down a few Stolis and go back to the karaoke bar! Well... I pretty much don't drink if I'm doing a lot of physical activity. Running and drinking aren't a good combo for me, and lately the running has been more important.
Please check out my new photos of the 2008 Broad Street Run. It was a freaking blast this year. I won!! I totally won!! Because I reached my personal goal :)
Yoga is probably the coolest fcking thing I've ever done. I do it three times per week.
I virtually disappeared from MySpace for a while. You can search for me on Facebook using my name, Ken Gregory, or the email address kengreg@gmail.com
So what have you been up to? Drop me a note. Peace!!

Nov 23rd - SPC, McNally, Nowhere !!!
Category: Music
Here we go... let's promote a show!
1. It's a holiday weekend 2. There's no cover 3. The bar is affordable 4. Three fun and talented acts will be performing a tasty mix of originals and sing along covers.
I guess God made the suburbs for this very reason. You can just pull-up and park and not blow a lot of money. Who woulda thunk?
I'm talking about this place: Carol's Place on 6th Street in Conshohocken http://maps.google.com/maps?f=l&hl=en&geocode=&time=&date=&ttype=&q=carol's+place&near=Conshohocken,+PA&ie=UTF8&ll=40.08083,-75.30098&spn=0.007963,0.01442&z=16&iwloc=A&om=1
On this day: Friday Nov 23rd
And these great folks: Nowhere, Tim McNally, Six Pack Creek - - - - - - - -
Last month I got back with Six Pack Creek for a medical benefit show and the music was on fire. I'm pumped to hit it again. The whole room will be stompin. If ya don't know, I'm playin lead acoustic guitar over honky tonk music. It's unlike anything you've ever seen me do.
Nowhere has been kicking some serious ass lately, including a big show at the Trocodero Theater. Come see how these local boys are making men out of themselves.
Tim McNally is the "former nowhere" who got up to go "somewhere". His voice sounds great absolutely "anywhere".

Benefit for Ed’s medical bills
The cycle of rehearsal and performance makes me crazy. Actually the bar business makes me crazy. I had to quit Six Pack Creek last year because I was well... you know... crazy!
The exception to my rule is a GOOD CAUSE. I'll make myself crazy for a good cause. You see, here' s the story, Ed's wife had a tumor removed from behind her eye socket several months ago. This is very scary stuff. I couldn't possibly make this up. The medical bills have been through the roof.
The show is happening at Likety Split, 4th and South, on Saturday the 13th. It will run late. I will be fun. It will help Ed and Marcia to squeeze by just a little longer.
Katie Barbado, Dani Mari, and Six Pack Creek.
There will be several raffles, with donated prizes. Good stuff.

I will deliver COVER SONGS... in a rich baritone... Sept 28th
Category: Music
My buddy Rory needed someone to open for his band "Nowhere". I figured I'd jump in and tear it up.
I put many hours into building this set. It's almost all covers. I found some classic rock tunes, and added some ninties stuff, a couple of suprising newer tunes, plus the most quirky eighties tune I could find. All this music has been acoustified Kenny-style. I dropped the keys into my vocal range where needed. I'm inventing alternate tunings for a couple of tunes. It's all pretty dreamy, but totally appropriate for a bar.
Led Zep - The Ocean Deep Purple - Smoke on the Water Peter Gabriel - Solsburry Hill Elliot Smith - Son of Sam Counting Crows - Round Here Britney Spears - Opps I Did It Again Natasha Beddingfield - These Words are my Own Wallflowers - One Headlight Howard Jones - New Song (Don't Crack Up)
I'm totally lovin this set. I'm like "The Wedding Singer" but not quite as goofy as Adam Sandler. I'm on my game. I will deliver the goods. Yessireee.
Friday Sept 28th Roughly 9:30 PM
641 Old Elm St, Conshohocken, PA (610) 828-2536 The hosting band, Nowhere, does great stuff. It's cool to see them in a small space like Mansion House.

I'm taking a break from sound
A lot of people met me as a soundman. That's cool, but there's another side of me. I have over 8 years experience with computer administration. I took a new job recently with a small private company. I'm a network engineer. I'm pretty busy and I don't really have the time or brain power to get into sound.
It's nice because I don't have to work on weekends. I'm able to put some effort into my own writing. I got a couple of requests from people to do sound work, but that's not really going work for me these days. I think I'll go see a couple of rock shows for a change.

Ed Snider of Comcast doesn't want you to get petitions
Ed Snider of Comcast doesn't want you to get petitions...Millionaire lawyer Richard Sprauge doesn't want you to get petitions...
...but that's because they're investors in Foxwoods and Sugarhouse. We DO want you to get petitions!
>> Sign up to get petitions with our team leaders this weekend. See below.... QUICK GOOD NEWS >> We added signatures to the petition drive from numerous notables, including John Dougherty, Rep Mike O'Brien, Fred Anton (Chairman of the PA Manufactuers' Association), Tom Cronin (DC47), Councilman Frank DiCicco, Rep >> Some many civic associations and groups have been passing around petitions that we can't remember them all. But we're trying to keep track. You can tell us if your group is distributing them by e-mailing signon@democracyguard.org or going to http://www.casinofreephila.org/No%20Way%20Sign-On.html
JOIN A FIELD TEAM
We have just under two weeks left for one of the largest petition efforts in Philadelphia history. Let's make sure the voters of Philadelphia have the opportunity to choose to save our neighborhoods by changing the Home Rule Charter to prohibit casinos within 1,500 ft of a school, library, religious building, park or playground.
Don't like petitioning alone? Neither do we. Sign up for one or several field teams. You can just show up. Or call Brian Kelly to let us know you're coming, 267-237-6620.
(And don't worry, we'll be going out all of next week and weekend, too. So save some time for that!)

Me and my pals found innocent in a Harrisburg court
Protesters arrested at Pa. gaming board offices are acquitted 1/22/2007, 6:23 p.m. ET By MARC LEVY The Associated Press
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — A district judge on Monday acquitted 14 protesters from Philadelphia who were charged with disorderly conduct last month outside the offices of the state's gambling regulatory agency.
Harrisburg District Judge Joseph Solomon said authorities did not prove that protesters — members of the antigambling group Casino-Free Philadelphia — intended to block access to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board's offices.
"Their intent was to go there to get information that they had been previously denied," Solomon said in a telephone interview after the 30-minute hearing. "I didn't feel it was appropriate for the gaming board to deny what I perceive to be public information."
Solomon, however, noted that a gaming board witness, Paul Mauro, a supervisor for the gaming board's bureau of investigation and enforcement, did not discuss the agency's legal obligations to respond to records requests.

My FCC testimony
I got the green light to speak for two minutes at Temple Univeristy tomorrow, so I rehearsed my testimony about 100 times.
Here's my final draft. I hope this story resonates with a few people.
- - - - - - - - - -
I joined Casino Free Philadelphia in a civil disobedience at the offices of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board on December 11th.
14 non-violent protesters, backed by 80 supporters, and pursued by about 20 news reporters decended on Harrisburg a "citizen's document search". It was the first ever citizen's document search in the United States.
Operation Transparency, as we called it, was pre-announced to our political leaders, state capitol police, the Gaming Control Board, and the news media. It was a culmination of other inquiries, other protests, and even law suits. The media knew the complete back story and they new that arrests were likely.
14 people were in fact arrested. Most media outlets responded:
(1) The Philadelphia Metro carried the arrests on the front page. (2) The Pittsburgh Post Gazzette carried the arrests on the front page (2) The Associated Press carried a detailed story which was picked-up all throughout Pennsylvania and even down to Houston TX. (4) at least one television station, Fox Philadelphia, ran video of the protest (5) Ten days after the event even USA Today jumped on board, by prominently displaying a photo of Operation Transparency.
Editors across Pennsylvania and other places were excited, but the newsprint monopoly in our hometown was NOT excited to tell the story.
Publisher, Brian Tierney, was exploring the casino business with a 5 million dollar pledge in the proposed Trump Street Casino.
Conveniently, the Philadelphia Inquirer buried the story of our arrests behind an expose on Christmas lights. We were in the Local Section, Letter B, Page Number 4. The only thing positive we could say for the Inquirer was that they sent their own reporter.
The Philadelphia Daily News, also under Tierney, did not send a reporter. They picked-up the AP story and quietly slid it into page 6.
Neither paper showed photographs of the event, yet all 14 arrestees were residents of Philadelphia.
The Inquirer did manage to print a disclaimer about Tierney's proposed investment, but the disclaimer appeared only after a big editorial endorsement of casinos, including a special endorsement for Trump Street.
Recently we learned that Jeff Shields, the primary casino reporter at the Inquirer was among a staff reduction.
This is where a print monopoly meets conflict of interest.
My name is Ken Gregory and I'd like to thank Media Tank and Temple U. for this opportunity to address Commissioners Copps and Adelstien of the FCC.
