SPiN – Spin EP
2008, SPiN

Rock Is Not Dead. Despite the oft repeated refrain, rock is alive and well. Today we visit Philadelphia, PA and SPiN; one of the more pleasant surprises I've found of late. No bass player? No problem! SPiN offers up infectious, high-energy rock and roll on their debut: Spin EP. Released in November, 2007, this CD has already garnered Top-10 placement on the FMQB charts and some positive response from commercial radio. You can not listen to this disc without be-bopping along, unless you're clinically deceased. And I wouldn't make any arguments against the SPiN in that case, either.

The disc opens with the straightforward rocker Not In Love, which combines driving guitar, soaring harmonies and a melody that will stay with you for days. Home is a rock ballad that builds on a flamenco riff and lush string arrangements to craft a bit of pop magic. This is your classic, heart-on-the-sleeve love song that many rock acts have lost the art of making (or become too caught up in). The song evolves into an urgent plea, utilizing some of the best rock theatric writing I've heard in some time.

There is a bit of theater in the music of SPiN. Based on this first EP, they just might be the total package musically. Great songwriting, smart lyrics, a profound sense of melody and harmony, and a vocalist (Eric Rothenheber) you could listen to all day long. Check out Bleed, which may just be the best pure rock song I've heard in some time. Buy the disc. Support their muse. This is what rock and roll is all about.

Rating: 5 Stars (Out of 5)

SPiN Article appears in papers/magazines around the country

The dedication of the song and download proceeds from "Home" has caught some national attention in the form of a syndicated news article. The below article has appeared in:

Stepping Out Magazine
(NY/NJ - April 16-22, 2008 Ed. Circulation: 80,000)

The Tribune
(Charlottesville, VA - 5/8/08 - Vol. 58 - No. 180 Ed. Circulation: 12,000)

The Baltimore Times
(Baltimore, MD - May 9-15, 2008 Ed. - Circulation: 393,000)

The Florida Style Magazine
(FL - May 2008 Ed. - Circulation: 27,000)

The Washington Informer
(Washington D.C. - May 15-21, 2008 Ed. - Circulation: 50,000)

syndicated news:
SPiN dedicates song, proceeds to soldiers' families

Political issues are the talk of the day. Whether discussing the Presidential primaries or Iraq, people are talking. Indie rock band SPiN is adding to the discussion with their politically-charged new song, "Home." The song focuses on an issue close to the hearts of most American's and the band members: America's soldiers and their families.

"We've dedicated our song, 'Home,' to the troops, and all proceeds from each download of the song will go to the families of the soldiers," says lead singer Eric Rothenheber "Getting those men and women home as soon as possible is important to us as a band—and we know most Americans feel the same way."

In sharp contrast to SPiN's (http://www.spinrocks.com) typically hard rocking, fiery songs, "Home" is a sentimental, emotional journey that communicates a universal desire. "We don't pretend to know what they're going through over there, but as a band that tours constantly, we can relate to the overwhelming feeling of wanting to go home," states keyboardist, Jim Vacca. "We wanted to do something to show the soldiers and their families how much we appreciate them. This is our way of raising awareness for this issue and giving back.'"

The song struck a cord with mainstream radio as well, debuting on FMQB Magazine's charts as the second most-added song in the country for two weeks straight. It went on to reach number seven and continues to be in rotation on over 60 commercial radio stations worldwide.

SPiN, nationally sponsored by Jägermeister, will begin a spring tour on May 2nd to promote their debut album (available at iTunes, Amazon.com, and more). The tour will include stops in Denver, Phoenix, San Diego, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas, among others.

SPiN Stranded in Indiana

We're stuck in Indi -

Could be worse. Could be snowing. Already is raining! Turns out they have alcohol in Indi. We be OK.

Our van broke down three times on the way to Wyoming. We be stuck in Indi. Whatev. We drink more. We gonna miss our first show Friday night but as for the rest of the tour? My suggestion would be that people put on their steel underwear, cause SPiN's ready to rock the Capital F Out Saturday. Jesus, I'm buzzed as I'm writing this. Peace be with all of your mommas. Especially the hot ones.

Long story long, we're renting a car to go to Chicago where a Van awaits us to continue on our journey to Wyoming and the rest of our tour. Meanwhile our Indi mechanic has two weeks to fix our shit to get us home from Indi.

Long story short. We are Handsome! See all of you soon.

"Home" breaks TOP 10 & we get sued

Our song "Home" has just edged out Alicia Keys' No One to land at No.10 on FMQB Magazine's AC40 Chart.

We are now getting nearly 800 plays a week around the country. Thanks to everyone around the country that's been requesting the song and sending us love - we appreciate it.

In other news, someone not spreading the love is spin magazine. In case you haven't heard they have issued us a cease-and-desist for using the name spin. We of course find this ridiculous and are in negotiations to fight this.

you can read more about it from these recently published articles:

Phila Daily News
Phila Inquirer
Buzz Grinder

Let us know what you guys think - we'd love to hear your thoughts on this crazy turn of events.

Rock On and as always thanks for your support!
