Antikythera Mechanism
Current mood: curious

Antikythera Mechanism: Scientists Crack Secrets Of 2,000-year-old Astronomical Computer

ScienceDaily (July 31, 2008) — Cardiff University experts have led an international team in unravelling the secrets of a 2,000-year-old computer which could transform the way we think about the ancient world.

Professor Mike Edmunds of the School of Physics and Astronomy and mathematician Dr Tony Freeth first heard of the Antikythera Mechanism, a clock-like astronomical calculator dating from the second century BC, several years ago. Now they believe they have cracked the centuries-old mystery of how it actually works.

Remnants of a broken wooden and bronze case containing more than 30 gears was found by divers exploring a shipwreck off the island of Antikythera at the turn of the 20th century. Scientists have been trying to reconstruct it ever since. The new research suggests it is more sophisticated than anyone previously thought.

Detailed work on the gears in the mechanism showed it was able to track astronomical movements with remarkable precision. The calculator was able to follow the movements of the moon and the sun through the Zodiac, predict eclipses and even recreate the irregular orbit of the moon. The team believe it may also have predicted the positions of the planets.

The findings suggest that Greek technology was far more advanced than previously thought. No other civilisation is known to have created anything as complicated for another thousand years.

Professor Edmunds said: "This device is just extraordinary, the only thing of its kind. The design is beautiful, the astronomy is exactly right. The way the mechanics are designed just makes your jaw drop. Whoever has done this has done it extremely carefully."

The team was made up of researchers from Cardiff, the National Archeological Museum of Athens and the Universities of Athens and Thessaloniki, supported by a substantial grant from the Leverhulme Trust. The researchers were greatly aided by Hertfordshire firm X-Tek, who developed powerful X-Ray computer technology to help with the study of corroded fragments of the machine. Computer giant Hewlett-Packard provided imaging technology to enhance the surface details of the machine.

The mechanism is in 70 pieces and stored in precisely controlled conditions in Athens where it cannot be touched. Recreating its workings was a difficult, painstaking process, involving astronomers, mathematicians, computer experts, script analysts and conservation experts.

After unveiling their full findings at a two-day international conference in Athens and in the journal Nature, the researchers are now hoping to create a computer model of how the machine worked, and, in time, a full working replica. It is still uncertain what the ancient Greeks used the mechanism for, or how widespread this technology was.

Professor Edmunds said: "It does raise the question what else were they making at the time. In term of historic and scarcity value, I have to regard this mechanism as being more valuable than the Mona Lisa."

Arctic sea ice drops to 2nd lowest level on record

Arctic sea ice drops to 2nd lowest level on record

By SETH BORENSTEIN and DAN JOLING, Associated Press Writers1 hour, 23 minutes ago

More ominous signs Wednesday have scientists saying that a global warming "tipping point" in the Arctic is happening before their eyes: Sea ice in the Arctic Ocean has melted to its second lowest level since satellite observations began.

The National Snow and Ice Data Center in Boulder, Colo., reported that the extent of sea ice in the Arctic is down to 2.03 million square miles. The lowest point since 1979 is 1.65 million square miles set last September.

With about three weeks left in the Arctic summer, this year could wind up breaking the previous record, scientists said.

Arctic ice always melts in summer and refreezes in winter. But over the years, more of the ice is lost to the sea and with less of it recovered in winter. While ice reflects the sun's heat, the open ocean absorbs more heat and the melting accelerates warming in other parts of the world.

Sea ice also serves as primary habitat for threatened polar bears.

"We could very well be in that quick slide downward in terms of passing a tipping point," said center senior scientist Mark Serreze. "It's tipping now. We're seeing it happen now."

Within a few years — "five to less than 10 years" — the Arctic could be free of sea ice in the summer, said NASA ice scientist Jay Zwally.

"It also means that climate warming is also coming larger and faster than the models are predicting and nobody's really taken into account that change yet," he said.

Other scientists, including James Hansen, director of NASA's Goddard Institute of Space Studies in New York, agreed. Hansen in a Wednesday e-mail said the sea ice "is the best current example of a tipping point."

Last year was an unusual year when wind currents and other weather conditions coincided with global warming to worsen sea ice melt, Serreze said. Scientists wondered if last year's melt was an unusual event or the start of a new and disturbing trend.

This year's results suggest the latter because the ice had recovered a bit more than usual thanks to a somewhat cooler winter, Serreze said. Then this month, when the melting rate usually slows, it sped up, he said.

And the melt in sea ice has kicked in another effect, long predicted, called "Arctic amplification," Serreze said.

That's when the warming up north is increased in a feedback mechanism and the effects spill southward starting in autumn, he said. Over the last few years, the bigger melt has meant more warm water that releases more heat into the air during fall cooling, making the atmosphere warmer than normal.

How Special Is Our Solar System?
Current mood: understimulated

Solar System Is Pretty Special, According To New Computer Simulation

ScienceDaily (Aug. 8, 2008) — Prevailing theoretical models attempting to explain the formation of the solar system have assumed it to be average in every way. Now a new study by Northwestern University astronomers, using recent data from the 300 exoplanets discovered orbiting other stars, turns that view on its head.

The solar system, it turns out, is pretty special indeed. The study illustrates that if early conditions had been just slightly different, very unpleasant things could have happened -- like planets being thrown into the sun or jettisoned into deep space.

Using large-scale computer simulations, the Northwestern researchers are the first to model the formation of planetary systems from beginning to end, starting with the generic disk of gas and dust that is left behind after the formation of the central star and ending with a full planetary system. Because of computing limitations, earlier models provided only brief glimpses of the process.

The researchers ran more than a hundred simulations, and the results show that the average planetary system's origin was full of violence and drama but that the formation of something like our solar system required conditions to be "just right."

The study was recently published in the journal Science.

Before the discovery in the early 1990s of the first planets outside the solar system, our system's nine (now eight) planets were the only ones known to us. This limited the planetary formation models, and astronomers had no reason to think the solar system unusual.

"But we now know that these other planetary systems don't look like the solar system at all," said Frederic A. Rasio, a theoretical astrophysicist and professor of physics and astronomy in Northwestern's Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences. He is senior author of the Science paper.

"The shapes of the exoplanets' orbits are elongated, not nice and circular. Planets are not where we expect them to be. Many giant planets similar to Jupiter, known as 'hot Jupiters,' are so close to the star they have orbits of mere days. Clearly we needed to start fresh in explaining planetary formation and this greater variety of planets we now see."

Using the wealth of exoplanet data collected during the last 15 years, Rasio and his colleagues have been working to understand planet formation in a much broader sense than was possible previously. Modeling an entire planetary system -- the varied physical phenomena associated with gas, gravity and grains of material, on such a variety of scales -- was a daunting challenge.

The work required very powerful computers. The researchers also had to judiciously decide what information was important and what was not, so as to speed up the calculations. They decided to follow the growth of planets, the gravitational interaction between planets, and the whole planetary system in its entire spatial extent. They chose not to follow the gas disk's fluid dynamics in fine detail, but rather more generally. As a result, they were able to run simulations spanning a planetary system's entire formation.

The simulations suggest that an average planetary system's origin is extremely dramatic. The gas disk that gives birth to the planets also pushes them mercilessly toward the central star, where they crowd together or are engulfed. Among the growing planets, there is cut-throat competition for gas, a chaotic process that produces a rich variety of planet masses.

Also, as the planets approach each other, they frequently lock into dynamical resonances that drive the orbits of all participants to be increasingly elongated. Such a gravitational embrace often results in a slingshot encounter that flings the planets elsewhere in the system; occasionally, one is ejected into deep space. Despite its best efforts to kill its offspring, the gas disk eventually is consumed and dissipates, and a young planetary system emerges.

"Such a turbulent history would seem to leave little room for the sedate solar system, and our simulations show exactly that," said Rasio. "Conditions must be just right for the solar system to emerge."

Too massive a gas disk, for example, and planet formation is an anarchic mess, producing "hot Jupiters" and noncircular orbits galore. Too low-mass a disk, and nothing bigger than Neptune -- an "ice giant" with only a small amount of gas -- will grow.

"We now better understand the process of planet formation and can explain the properties of the strange exoplanets we've observed," said Rasio. "We also know that the solar system is special and understand at some level what makes it special."

"The solar system had to be born under just the right conditions to become this quiet place we see. The vast majority of other planetary systems didn't have these special properties at birth and became something very different."

In addition to Rasio, other authors of the Science paper are Edward W. Thommes, an adjunct professor at the University of Guelph in Ontario, former postdoctoral fellow at Northwestern and lead author, and Soko Matsumura, a postdoctoral fellow at Northwestern.

The computer simulations were performed on a supercomputing cluster operated by Northwestern's Theoretical Astrophysics Group and partially funded by a Major Research Instrumentation grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF). Rasio's research group on exoplanets also is funded by a grant from the NSF Division of Astronomy.

Sun’s Not Screwy, Scientist Says
Current mood: warm

..TR>

Nothing is out of whack with the sun, a NASA researcher said this week, despite some scientists' suggestions that a lull in the weather there lately is unusually long, a phenomenon linked to at least one small ice age.

The sun goes through a roughly 11-year cycle of activity. It is now at or near the low point in that cycle, so sunspots are rare and solar flares infrequent.

At a conference earlier this year, scientists expressed concern that the low ebb was lasting longer than normal and that the inactivity might lead to a longer-term absence of sunspots. An unusually inactive solar cycle in the 17th century has been linked to the Little Ice Age that occurred around the same time.

The Maunder Minimum, as it's called, lasted 70 years, from 1645 to 1715.

"There have been some reports lately that solar minimum is lasting longer than it should. That's not true," said NASA solar physicist David Hathaway. The ongoing lull in sunspot numbers "is well within historic norms for the solar cycle."

The sun has been relatively quiet for more than two years. Hathaway said there were stretches in the 20th century when the slack periods lasted twice this long.

"It does seem like it's taking a long time," Hathaway said, "but I think we're just forgetting how long a solar minimum can last."

Hathaway has studied sunspot data going back to 1749. While the cycle is commonly said to last 11 years, in fact its length can vary by more than a year.

Nobody knows what causes these fluctuations, but Hathaway does not expect the current lull to last.

"We have already observed a few sunspots from the next solar cycle," he said. "This suggests the solar cycle is progressing normally."

He expects the next solar maximum around 2012, when space storms should again become frequent. Scientist and others want to know, because the storms are known to knock out satellites and damage power grids on Earth. The storms can also increase risks to space travelers.

Chicago ’07 Recap
Current mood: blessed

With the ending of this year a lot of change has happened in my life in '07. I ended a career within the mortgage business, moved out of Placentia, CA (AKA Arm Pit of California) and moved into the Midwest..into Chicago. The first month here was an eye opening experience..just adjusting to the people and the ways they go about things..mannerisms..rude behavior..etc..etc.. In October I was searching for work..moving myself into a new apartment..and adjusting to a new city. In November I managed to land a job..which took some of the worry out of the adjustment. I also signed up for Guitar Lessons which helped me familiarize myself with music lovers and through regular group lessons helped me start to schedule my life into a new rhythm. I love this city. Each and everyday there's a new adventure to be had. I have met more people in 3 months living in this city than I had in 3 years living in California. It's amazing what opportunities to encounter new strangers come up when you release yourself from the security blanket of home. I have a renewed vigor and love for life. I am thankful for all the love and support my friends and family have blessed me with. It honestly doesn't seem like I've lived here 3 months I'm that familiar with Chicago. The weather here honestly hasn't been bad at all. Yes I know it's only the end of December. I'm sure it will get much colder and harsher in January and February but when I look around and see people shivering..or complaining about the cold and I'm snug as a bug in a rug with just my jacket and gloves on..I know my warm blooded genes will help my survival. So with the end of '07 and another close to a year in review I wish good tidings and blessings upon everyone in the hopes that their '08 will be as wonderful and full of happiness and love as can be. God Bless.

Genesis 37:5-11 and Astrology
Current mood: calm
Category: Religion and Philosophy

One of my favorite books of Moses is Genesis. Historically we now know that the Jews were in Egypt approx. 1500 B.C. and that archaeolgy has discovered royal seals with Hebrew writing all with the name Jacob father of Joseph. The only royal seals with Hebrew writing ever discovered too I might add. Now onto the lesson at hand.

In Genesis Joseph, son of Jacob has 2 prophetic dreams while still living with his family.

A little background on Jacob is that he was Abraham's grandson being born of Isaac(Abraham's son) and Rebekah who was the sister of Laban. Rebekah favored Jacob over his twin bro Esau and because of this Esau resented Jacob. Jacob with the aide of Rebekah also tricked Isaac into giving him the blessing instead of his brother Esau. In these days a man would live his whole life to receive this blessing. Now I'll speed this up Jacob runs away to his uncle Laban to save himself from being killed for stealing the blessing from Esau. Rebekah told him to chill there a few days til Esau was over the wanting to kill him. Well Jacob falls in love with Rachel the younger of Uncle Laban's daughters basically both his cousins. He makes a deal with his uncle to work 7 years for him and in return he gets to marry Rachel. His uncle agrees gets him hammered drunk at his wedding and marries him to Rachel's older sister Leah saying it's our custom that the elder daughter marry before the younger. So then Uncle Laban tricks him into working 7 more years to be able to marry Rachel too. After a number of children with Leah, Bilhah(Rachel's handmaid) and Zilpah(Leah's handmaid) Rachel was still without child. Rachel finally conceived of a son Joseph whom Jacob  favored because it came from Rachel. She later gave Joseph a blood brother Benjamin and then she passed on. Ok so now we see how Joseph was favored amongst his brothers from the handmaids and from Jacob's first wife Leah.. Rachel's elder sister.

Now back to the dreams Joseph hated brother of the clan because he was favored told his family about:

And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brethren: and they hated him yet the more.

And he said unto them, Hear, I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed:

For, behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and, lo, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves stood round about, and made obeisance to my sheaf.

And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou indeed reign over us? or shalt thou indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams, and for his words.

Interesting fact later in the story(many years) Joseph's brethren do infact go into Egypt to buy food during a drought from Joseph who at that point is the Royal Advisor. For those who don't know what a sheaf is 1 : a quantity of the stalks and ears of a cereal grass or sometimes other plant material bound together (i.e. a tied together bundle of wheat or what have you)

Now to Dream 2 - Genesis 37:9

9And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me.

10And he told it to his father, and to his brethren: and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth?

11And his brethren envied him; but his father observed the saying.

Now the word Obeisance means this according to Merriam-Webster: 1 : a movement of the body made in token of respect or submission : BOW
2 : acknowledgment of another's superiority or importance

Back to the Dream. The Sun and Moon and the 11 stars made obeisance to him. Until the advent of the telescope most planets were thought of as stars. I grew up learning the 9 planets, Pluto having been discovered some 40 years before my birth. Things have changed though through the recent discovery of a slightly larger than Pluto planetoid in the Kuiper Belt named Eris. Now the IAU(International Astronomical Union ) had a vote and determined Planets would only be objects that cleared their orbital path kind of like a vacuum cleaner moving in a circle. The vacuum cleaners or planets that didn't clear out their path are to be classified as dwarf planets.

Q: What is a dwarf planet?
A: A dwarf planet is an object in orbit around the Sun that is large enough (massive enough) to have its own gravity pull itself into a round (or nearly round) shape. Generally, a dwarf planet is smaller than Mercury. A dwarf planet may also orbit in a zone that has many other objects in it. For example, an orbit within the asteroid belt is in a zone with lots of other objects.

Q: How many dwarf planets are there?
A: Currently there are three known dwarf planets. Ceres, Pluto, and 2003 UB 313(aka Eris and her moon Dysmonia).

Astrology consists of interpreting the movements and influences of the planets and their effects upon life here on earth. The ancients knew in 1500 BC and before..... that there were 11 planetary objects other than the Sun and Moon without the use of telescopes. 8 regular sized planets and 3 newly classified dwarf planets. Joseph eventually became a the advisor to Pharoah through a very amazing life. He was a man who knew God and in whom God showed his favor for his strength in faith. In his many roles as advisor to Pharoah he was also an astrologer. This was shown to him in his second dream. This is one of the earliest examples of Astrology and it's application in the Bible.

Now if you were to take a college course on U.S. History and a classmate were to come up to you in the first week of class and explain to you the textbook is inaccurate you would ask why they felt it was inaccurate. If the person replied,"well I just don't believe the stuff in the textbook is accurate cause how could they know that stuff they weren't around then!". You might think them a little naive to make such a statement; as scholars compiled the history put into the book and worked to ensure its accuracy. Later on you may ask yourself who is this one person to dispute the work of historical scholars? They are no historian. Why then do we place so much animosity towards the historical evidence within the Bible? We say well I don't know if that happened or not. Our very own archaeologists and those in Egyptian antiquities will tell you that they've unearthed an enormous amount of jewish settlements in Egypt that date to the time of the occupation and eventual Exodus from Egypt. Should we think those historical scholars to be unsure of their findings? I believe our religious institutions have reinforced a level of ignorance within people of faith not intentionaly but as a quick fix to early theological debates. We are constantly reminded that the Bible needs to either be taken as faith or not; that we cannot prove the Bible's accuracy to events within it. I argue that we can prove the historical accounts written into the Bible and today this is evidenced by the pursuit of science in reaffirming these events did take place when they were said to.

Biblical references from Genesis were in KJV format. I know NLT is a bit easier to comprehend in wording I just felt like using old school format. Even in NLT the dreams come out similarly:

5 One night Joseph had a dream, and when he told his brothers about it, they hated him more than ever. 6 "Listen to this dream," he said. 7 "We were out in the field, tying up bundles of grain. Suddenly my bundle stood up, and your bundles all gathered around and bowed low before mine!"

8 His brothers responded, "So you think you will be our king, do you? Do you actually think you will reign over us?" And they hated him all the more because of his dreams and the way he talked about them.

9 Soon Joseph had another dream, and again he told his brothers about it. "Listen, I have had another dream," he said. "The sun, moon, and eleven stars bowed low before me!"

10 This time he told the dream to his father as well as to his brothers, but his father scolded him. "What kind of dream is that?" he asked. "Will your mother and I and your brothers actually come and bow to the ground before you?" 11 But while his brothers were jealous of Joseph, his father wondered what the dreams meant.

To those who love to argue the inaccuracy or the manipulation of early texts of the Bible as their justification to disbelief. I answer them with this The Dead Sea Scrolls found in 1948 date to both before the time of christ and after his death; contain the first 5 books of Moses. Genesis is one of these books. These texts untouched for centuries until discovered match up amazingly to the 5 books of Moses scholars have had for centuries. The other four books of Moses are Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. Now that we have historical proof that the stories of Moses remained the same through countless centuries I wonder what people will find to argue the Bible's accuracy next. Eventually they will all have to face the truth; that being the Bible isn't some pipe dream invented by man as a substitute to mythology. The Bible is a historical reference of one people's communion with and allegiance to a greater power/creator God than most will ever find.

Thoughts on happiness..
Current mood: jubilant
Category: Religion and Philosophy

After two evenings of back to back parties and drinking I feel the urge to let loose with Astrology Info. It seems people at both parties naturally picked me out of the crowd and knew I could answer their questions. I'm begining to find more people today have the ability to comprehend matters as complex and intricate as the effects of our universe and ourselves. As above so below is a term used to describe the inter-connectedness of the cosmos. So why do I talk so much about it? I do this because there is a commodity that we do not have enough of on this Earth and it isn't oil. Time is what I'm referring to. Time was very important to early man. It wasn't used to figure out when to return home while out on a hunt nor was it of the utmost importance in calculating agricultural seasons. Time is for our use as people to empower ourselves, improve ourselves and become better and stronger people. Am I a perfect individual? Not by a longshot. When I meet a perfect individual I'll have to blog about that encounter but til then I think the odds of meeting a perfect person has about as high a probability as being abducted by a tribe of african pygmies. We all have traits we value and traits we dismiss in others from our own perspectives. All of our friendships are based on compatibilities. They could be compatibilities in thought, action, emotion maybe a combination of those things and more which makes one friend closer than another. The ultimate relationship is one founded on a very strong friendship. If you were or are incompatible with your mate imagine the amount of energy you spend fighting to change the person in ways you accept as compatible. With this also in mind imagine the time and energy spent bandaging and repairing a relationship that was broken from the begining. Constantly in our world we are forced to accept the limited concept that we all should be compatible no matter when a person was born. Reality proves to us that those we consider our friends or even those we may view as of a like mind coincidentally happen to be of compatible astrological birth signs. This pattern flows through all relationships; family, friends, co-workers, colleagues, etc. . Recognizing this pattern will only help to show you the importance in how you spend your time amongst those you are compatible with and those you are not. It can impact your whole life knowing whom to trust. So next time you're out and checking out people looking for your next relationship trust in your own instincts to discern who is right from wrong. If you're notoriously bad instinctually and only seem to pick losers maybe you should then change your method and think astrologically or perhaps give it a slight chance. I don't recommend walking up to people and saying, "Hey Baby, What's your sign?". That seems to go over about as well as, "Hey there..Nice Rack!". Small talk is a great way to approach the subject. Small talk is also a great barometer for measuring your communication compatibility. Once the ice has been broken then the subject of birthdays and signs may be approached. I only hope people are intelligent enough to see patterns in their own relationships enough to notice the good and bad things from past relationships and realize that there's a damn good reason why those people have left your life. We were all born with the eventual goal of happiness. Many times life deludes us into believing a desire for material things can bring us happiness when all along we are creators of our own happiness. If you want more positive energy in your life you need to become a more positive thinker. I'm not saying by thinking about happiness it will materialize. I am saying that when thinking about happiness and about the good and bad that leads to it; once you've focused on the good and correcting the bad using self-will your world will be filled with happiness naturally. That which you sow, so shall you reap from a biblical perspective. Astrology may have an influence on all of us in this world but each of us have influence over our own worlds in whatever direction we take.

Psalm 91 and I
Current mood: awake
Category: Religion and Philosophy

Psalm 91
Those who live in the shelter of the Most High
will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
This I declare about the Lord:
He alone is my refuge, my place of safety;
he is my God, and I trust him.
For he will rescue you from every trap
and protect you from deadly disease.
He will cover you with his feathers.
He will shelter you with his wings.
His faithful promises are your armor and protection.
Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night,
nor the arrow that flies in the day.
Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness,
nor the disaster that strikes at midday.
Though a thousand fall at your side,
though ten thousand are dying around you,
these evils will not touch you.
Just open your eyes,
and see how the wicked are punished.

If you make the Lord your refuge,
if you make the Most High your shelter,
no evil will conquer you;
no plague will come near your home.
For he will order his angels
to protect you wherever you go.
They will hold you up with their hands
so you won't even hurt your foot on a stone.
You will trample upon lions and cobras;
you will crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet!

The Lord says, "I will rescue those who love me.
I will protect those who trust in my name.
When they call on me, I will answer;
I will be with them in trouble.
I will rescue and honor them.
I will reward them with a long life
and give them my salvation."

Now for those who think me a walking contradiction for both knowing God and knowing Astrology I ask them this. Why is it so perplexing to you that your Creator, made planets other than our own to guide and influence us? If the Lord had wanted Adam to be like any other animal on this planet he wouldn't have given him Self-Will. Self-Will is the one thing that makes you different from all other life on this planet. Self-Will allows you to choose to do whatever it is you want to do no matter what influences the planets may give you. God gave each and everyone of us Self-Will, so that we would be responsible for our choices. Choices like how we treate others both strangers and family, what we deem important in our lives, who we choose to associate with both at work and at home, etc. etc. . It is our own choices in life that will be weighed against us in the end and then once our worth is measured up to the divine. It's a cycle like anything else in our world and universe. They always say as is without so is within. Cycles are all around us. We have solar cycles, lunar cycles, annual & planetary cycles. If you made a conscious decision to sit down and write down all things cyclical in nature you could spend a lifetime and never come close.  I also like how easy it is for people to dismiss the concept of Karma. Anyone can be the sharpest, most  church-going, Christianese speaking, Die-Hard Christian still accrue negative Karma by their actions. Karma is like a bank for the soul of all your good and evil deeds. We are all making spiritual withdrawals and deposits every minute we are alive. Our only FDIC insurance and protection lies with one entity and that is God. It is because of his omnipotent existence that we need remember that which we do to others plants the seeds for that to be done to us. Through Astrology, we can recognize the patterns in our own lives and thus create newer and better patterns which empowers not only ourselves as individuals but society as a whole. We can see our own planets through charts and interpret their influence into our Karmic debt and paths on how to pay it back.

Never dismiss what you presently do not understand solely because science hasn't the rational nor society the patience to understand it.

Demystification of Astrology
Current mood: thoughtful
Category: Religion and Philosophy

So I think my first attempt at demystifying astrology was a complete and utter failure which I hope never to repeat. It's a very difficult thing trying to explain something as complex as astrology into a blog anyone and their mother could comprehend. This however is round 2 and I feel a whole lot better about how I'm going to attempt it. I'm going to begin with two things people say make Astrology null and void. First is Horoscopes... now when everyone thinks horoscope they think newspaper or online horoscope but a true horoscope is your natal chart. For the answer to What is a Natal Chart read the Edgar Cayce on Astrology blog and then you'll understand what I mean by it's a mapping of the planets in their positions within the Zodiac at the hour of your birth.  I'll be the first to tell you that newspaper/online horoscopes are B.S. . People aren't that simple and God gave us all self-will to make our own choices. Now we can make them good or  bad of course and sure there's some grey area choices too, but for the most part it's A or B, One or the Other when given a choice.

Now how does a horoscope factor into choices?

Accoding to the newspaper because of your "sign" which in Astrology is referred to as your Sun Sign or the Sign in which the Sun was positioned at that time of the calendar year. Any person who was born within that 29 days or so of the sign should have a day similar to all the other countless millions of people who may share that birthday. When in reality a person's Sun Sign is 1/50th of a person's Astrological makeup. Even with statistics it's hard to prove that 1/50th of a person's personality or persona combined with the fact they all have self-will to do what they like whenever they like in that given day is predictable. Astrology just isn't really about that people.

What is Astrology about? Why is it important to know?

Astrology is important to know because it is about each one of us and our uniqueness to our own life and those of others. Astrology is like the owner's manual to the soul......      to be continued....
