NBC Executive ( the parent company of SCI FI CHANNEL ) ARRESTED! - Stole $.8 billion
Current mood: surprised
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

One of the Executives at NBC (the parent company of SCIFI channel) has been caught stealing nearly $1 Billion dollars of income.

NBC UNIVERSAL TREASURER ARRESTED

-NBC Universal is owned by General Electric (GE)
-NBC operates the Sci Fi Channel

(NBC actors unaware money from their shows may have been diverted into NBC Exec's personal accounts)

NEWS:

An EXECUTIVE of NBC Universal TV Network, the parent company of THE SCI FI CHANNEL, has been ARRESTED.

Former NBC Universal treasurer Victor Jung was arrested on wire-fraud charges in New York Thursday following a federal indictment alleging that he had transferred more than $800,000 from the company's accounts to a bogus company that he had set up.

The wire transfers had allegedly been made from NBC U into the dummy corporation that he called NBC U Media Productions. Today's (Friday) Los Angeles Times noted that the name is close to that of an actual NBC Universal subsidiary, NBC Media Productions (without the "U").

According to the indictment, Jung had used some of the money for lavish trips with friends to the Caribbean, spending $387,189 alone on private jets. NBC issued a statement saying that when it discovered the theft, it fired Jung and informed authorities.

During flights to Miami and the caribbean island of Antigua, NBC Executive Victor Jung and his travel companions enjoyed delicacies that included shrimp cocktail, Veuve Cliquot champagne and Mondavi wine, the prosecutor said.

Jung used $56,000 to pay for a summer rental in Southampton, New York, and $87,416 to pay personal expenses on his American Express card, the indictment said.

Meanwhile, the NBC TV network, including the Sci Fi channel continue to lose viewers and advertisers.

NBC recently posted the worst tv ratings in decades, and viewers are turning away from the Sci Fi channel in droves.

Media Buyers and advertisers are leaving NBC and marching toward better channels. NBC corporation has so far posted a loss of over $1 billion dollars in lost advertising revenue as advertisers veer away from the sagging network.

Viewers, instead of sitting through shows that are failures, and seeing that their favorite shows are now cancelled, are buying just their favorite shows without the commercials, via iTunes.

Comments:

CAPNDEL:
"Isn't this the same company that had to cut funding for programs because they were going broke?"

gege48:
"That's ridiculous."

CB649:
"Wow, some people just think everything is theirs for the taking...jerks!"

KatherineL:
"They have nearly a billion dollars just sitting around for the taking? And they didn't miss $800,000.00 for months and months???

RoBob:
"And all this time they cry poor-mouth and cancel many of our favorite shows complaing "oh they are too expensive to produce" and then replace them with stupid monotonous reality shows like "Who wants to be a Superhero" so they can scrimp a few thousand by not wanting to pay for writers and good actors?"

Saline:
"NBC's records must be a wreck. I smell big financial trouble coming at NBC."

Samurai:
"So, they ruin my Battlestar Galactica webisodes complaining they're ad materials and the execs wont pay the show producers and actors for their work they did on them, and then the executives cancel farscape and stargate and other shows i liked, complaining they cost too much, and then the executives over there use the money to pay off their personal expenses, eat shrimp cocktail and use my advertising dollars as a viewer to pay for their vacation houses and for them to go on beach trips and drink fancy wine? *disgusted*"

CBS Headquarters in NewYork hit by 50-thousand pounds of Peanuts!
Current mood: jubilant
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

25-Tonnes of PEANUTS, over 50-thousand pounds, dropped on CBS TV Headquarters in NYC!

VICTORY FOR the FANS!

"JERICHO" fans send 25 tons of peanuts to CBS,
CBS puts show back on the air.

10:18 a.m. EDT, June 6, 2007

• Source: CBS has reconsidered its decision to axe popular show.
Victory for fans. The show is going to return.

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Fans trumpeting the cause of CBS' canceled drama "Jericho" have caught the network's ear.

CBS, deluged with calls, messages and shipments of nuts signifying viewer displeasure, is reconsidering its decision, a source close to the production said Tuesday.

The source spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to comment publicly. A decision on whether to bring the show back, probably for a midseason run, is imminent, the source said.

"We are tired of the networks (not just CBS) tossing aside quality programming," was the message carried by jericholives.com, one of several Web sites protesting the cancellation. "Enough! We're going to fight for this one."

Clarke Ingram, a "Jericho" fan from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and a spokesman for jericholives, said he was optimistic that CBS would find a way to revive the drama about a Kansas town isolated by a nuclear terrorist attack.

"People would paint this as teenagers in tinfoil hats" rallying behind the show, said Ingram, 50, an operations manager for two radio stations. "That's not what this is. These are educated professionals."

The Fans won! CBS has announced just several hours ago that they are now going to put the show back on. :)

So it can happen, folks!
Fan initiatives can successfully get such shows back on the air.

The news is reported all over CNN and Reuters.

http://news.com.com/Deluge+of+peanuts+brings+back+Jericho+TV+show/2100-1026_3-6189218.html

So... NEVER EVER ever EVER give up! :)

The only difference is that CBS is a network that has employees and people who are reasonable, and who listen to their audience and who are in touch with the market.

NBC UNIVERSAL Sci Fi channel has people and executives who have bricks in their head, have no clue, and dont listen to what their audience is telling them.

But that just means it'll take just a little bit longer and a bit more work with the block heads at NBCU SciFi, thats all! :)

"Never give up, Never surrender!"

NBC's ratings plunge to Lowest since Ratings system was Invented
Current mood: indescribable
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

NBC'S WORST WEEK EVER?

NBC's ratings plunged to their lowest level since the current ratings system was invented

NBC lost one entertainment chief [fired], and gained another, NBC's ratings plunged to their lowest level since the current ratings system was inaugurated.

"It's likely you'd have to go back to the days of black-and-white sets to find a smaller number," commented AP television writer David Bauder.

Fox's House, previously outshone by its usual lead-in, American Idol, got a chance to sparkle on its own last week as the season finale put it at the top of the Nielsen list with 17.23 million viewers, well ahead of its closest competitor, CBS's CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, which drew 12.09 million viewers. Nevertheless, CBS's programs in general captured the largest share of the viewing audience as it wound up the week with an average 5.2 rating and a 9 share. Fox followed with a 4.1/7. ABC placed third with a 3.6/6.

NBC trailed with a lowly 3.3/6

The top ten shows of the week according to Nielsen Research:
1. House, Fox, 10.1/16;
2. CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, CBS, 8.0/13;
3. CSI: NY, CBS, 7.1/12;
4. Two and a Half Men, CBS, 6.8/11;
5. Boston Legal, ABC, 6.7/11;
6. NCIS, CBS, 6.7/11;
7. So You Think Can Dance (Thursday), Fox, 6.5/11;
8. Shark, CBS, 6.4/12;
9. CSI: Miami, CBS, 6.3/10;
10. Cold Case, CBS, 6.2/11.

(Notice NBC did not even make it into the list)

STARGATE SG-1 CREW RISK THEIR LIVES
Current mood: thankful

Well, it wasn't really intended, to make the news in precisely this way, but thankfully everyone is ok.

Now that everyone is safe, we can share some of the excitement.

There's more info on this at: THESUPERGATE.com if you want to read what happened.

In case you don't know, or didn't read it on THE SUPERGATE yet, we have a film crew of 15 people up at the North Pole filming shots for one of the brand new Stargate SG1 movies. Including Ben, Rick, and Amanda....

REUTERS NEWS WIRE!
"Stargate" SG-1 Filmmakers risk lives in Arctic Circle

Tue Mar 27, 2007 9:29PM EDT

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - As the submarine slips under the ice, water splashes a cameraman who is lying on the ice's edge with a submersible camera. Here in the Arctic Circle, the temperature is minus-37 degrees Fahrenheit -- the point at which mercury turns solid -- and this crew member is in immediate danger of freezing.

Martin Wood, the director of the direct-to-video movie "Stargate: Continuum," quickly radios for help, and the cameraman is whisked away by helicopter to the base camp. He's treated and will be OK.

The shoot is taking place as close to the North Pole as possible -- at the Navy's Applied Physics Laboratory Ice Station, 3,000 kilometers north of Vancouver and 200 nautical miles north of Prudhoe Bay, the northernmost city in Alaska. A team of about 15 crew and actors arrived Thursday for a seven-day shoot of six scenes for MGM's $6 million-$7 million extension of the long-running sci-fi series "Stargate."

The "Continuum" production, headed by Wood and writer-producer Brad Wright, is housed in prefab plywood huts with stove heaters called hooches. Drinking water is obtained by going outside, grabbing a chunk of ice and melting it in a container on the stove. The closest Internet connection -- and shower -- requires a flight to Prudhoe Bay.

Charles Cohen, MGM senior executive vp finance and corporate development, sat in on the Navy briefings before the shoot and stressed two points.

"One, if you fall in any water, it's so cold that you have about 10 seconds to get out or you're dead," he said. "And two, the polar bear situation."

"A bear and a cub were spotted 14 miles away when we first got here," Wood said in an interview via satellite telephone. "(The other day) they were five miles away, so we're expecting them (to come) closer."

Riflemen stand guard in case they do.

The complicated sequence, filmed last weekend, called for the USS Alexandria to break up through the ice, surprising a lost Stargate team. The submarine was rigged with a camera, and a hole was cut through the 4-foot ice so that a submersible camera could be placed about 18 feet below the surface. The ice was then cleared of snow, with an 'X' marking the area where the sub would, in theory, break through.

On the first try, the whole sub came up pounding though the ice. On the second take, it fought to grind through, not quite hitting the mark. Each time, the crew and actors were surprised.

"They say if you want to be in the safest position when the submarine comes up, stand on the 'X' because it never hits it," Wood said.

The landscape changed daily, because of the constant breaking and reforming of the ice atop of the Arctic Ocean. But Wood said continuity wasn't a problem. "Because everything that we're looking at is pretty much ice and pressure ridges," he said. "It's as nondescript a background as you can get."

The production opted for the difficult terrain because the filmmakers were convinced it couldn't be replicated in a studio or computer-generated environment.

"I don't think it could have been done with the same sort of intensity that you're going to have by shooting it real," Wood said. "I don't think you can capture the right feeling and sound if you tried to re-create it in an unnatural way."

Two killed in Arctic submarine accident

Two sailors were killed on Wednesday aboard the nuclear submarine HMS Tireless, the Ministry of Defence said.

The accident took place while the vessel was submerged in the Arctic during a British-US exercise, a spokesman said.

The two men have not been named but their families have been informed, he added. Apiece of air-purification equipment was thought to be responsible for the accident. The forward compartment of the Trafalgar class nuclear submarine was damaged in the accident and the crew was forced to surface quickly through the ice.

A third submariner was injured and was airlifted to hospital. His injuries are not life-threatening, the MoD said. The nuclear reactor of HMS Tireless was unaffected and the ship itself was not in danger, a spokesman added.

HMS Tireless is a hunter-killer submarine and does not carry nuclear missiles. An MoD spokesman confirmed the piece of equipment which malfunctioned was fitted to all Trafalgar class submarines.

He said its use on other boats had been restricted until safety checks could be carried out. Admiral Sir James Burnell-Nugent last night offered his sympathy to the families of the two men who died and paid tribute to the crew of HMS Tireless.

He said: 'I very much regret that this incident has occurred and my thoughts go out to the family and friends of the men who have lost their lives.

'I also wish to pay tribute to the crew of HMS Tireless that this incident has been dealt with and contained in such a professional manner.'

NOTE: This 2nd accident is Not us. This other submarine accident just happened during the same time that the STARGATE SG-1 team set out for a similar ARCTIC mission to film the Stargate SG-1 movies. Our hearts and sympathies go out to those who died on the British arctic submarine mission on the 21st of March 2007.
:(

Luckily everyone with SG-1 is ok so far... Whew.

ECW FAKE Wrestling Fails to acheive Ratings - Stargate SG-1 rerun ratings climb.
Current mood: determined
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

ECW FAKE Wrestling continues its ratings SLUMP

ECW FAKE Wrestling Fails to acheive Ratings
while STARGATE SG-1 re-run nielsen ratings continue to climb higher.

Mark Stern & Bonnie Hammer's decision to put sweaty B.O. smelling men in spandex speedos arguing at eachother then doing prechoreographed play-fighting for an hour on Sci Fi channel, is NOT doing so well.

Originally touted by NBC UNIVERSAL SciFi's questionable management Mark Stern, Sallie Schoneboom & Bonnie Hammer, as a stunt to beg for ratings, ECW & wrestling ratings have taken a Dive.

Compared to the competing "RAW" wrestling show, which got a 4.1, ECW fake wrestling got a rating of only 1.4 on Jan 9th, 2007.

This is lower than Stargate, in fact, lower than 5 year old re-runs of Stargate which fans continue to watch and enjoy.

When ECW got a nielsen rating of 1.5 on Jan 16th, Wrestling publications all over the net had articles entitled "ECW Rating Sinks". (Although, I believe they missed a letter 't' in that last word there.)

As of Mar 30th, ECW's ratings were barely higher despite massive ads by sci fi channel for ECW touting it, and stunts meant to hype it up & attract viewers.

The show was nearly beat out by all 3 episodes of STARGATE SG-1 that were run earlier the same night, and the SG-1 shows were even re-runs.

More details on how in the world fake wrestling got onto the channel meant for Science Fiction Movies can be found at:
