8.9.08 Grand Targhee and CMT blog

Hey,
As you may know, I've been blogging on CMT.com since May. Click HEREto read my latest blog on Hypermiling in the van, Stringduster style.

At the Idaho Falls Airport right now. Absolutely perfect day at Targhee yesterday. Our set was really rowdy, a full dancing crowd. Billy Nershi even showed up at the front of the stage howling and yelling in the middle of a moon man closer. Lots of friends hanging around, Tim O'Brien played a great set with Bela, Driesen, Darrell Scott, Eric Thorin and Sam Bush. Set was cut short by a full on downpour, but the fellers just kept picking acoustic in the dark.

We're flying out to Seattle this afternoon for a show with Danny Barnes at the Tractor Tavern. Danny wrote Get It While You Can on our new record. A whole bunch of Seattle folks are up at Targhee enjoying one of the best line-ups I've ever seen, but we're hoping that there's still enough music fans in town to fill up the Tractor.

Blue Waters festival on Sunday then home for a weekend off. We resume the touring again in Culver City, CA followed closely by Summergrass in San Diego and Four Corners Folk Festival. We'll be doing a whole lot more club dates this fall, so the likelyhood of us coming near you will increase. You can check out the website or the myspace calendar for the most up-to-date schedule.

stay upright,

8.1.08 Beach

Day at the beach.

Last night in Boston was sold out. Had some rowdy attendees. We've got most of the day off, so we'll be going to the beach, try to tan our hides, do a little open water swimming. Tonight we're at the Podunk festival, tomorrow up in Maine. This time next week we'll be out west.

You can always get the latest info by tuning in to our website and myspace. We've got some crazy stuff on the horizon, something about playing in a large plastic bubble. I don't know exactly. Anyway, see you soon.

7.26.08 Friday Night Rockygrass

This week was a blur. If you like to pick and you've never been to the Rockygrass Academy, you're missing out. The Stringdusters were all hanging out, teaching classes Monday through Friday of this week on the grounds of Planet Bluegrass in Lyons, CO.

Tonight the music was as good as I've heard. John Cowan Band, Russ Barrenberg and Bryan Sutton, Bela Fleck and Friends (basically Bela playing duets and trios with everyone), Dan Tyminski Band, and Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Edgar Meyer. Edgar took the most inspiring break i've ever seen tonight. Absolutely epicos.

We're onstage tomorrow around 2:30, then it's back in the St. Vrain river and more music. More to come.

7.14.08 At the Birchmere tonight

Hanging out backstage, just finished soundchecking. Crooked Still is onstage checking. Sounding very very good. Chatham County Line is rolling in off the road. We're about to eat some good food and do an interview with BluegrassCountry.org.

Winnipeg Folk Festival last weekend was wet. Thursday actually wasn't wet, it was sunny and warm, and we took full advantage of the hospitality. Our set Saturday with David Grisman and his band and the Sparrow Quartet was in the midst of a downpour. It was really more of a sideways-pour as the rain was coming in at about a 40 degree angle. We persevered but by the time I'd got back to the hotel I was nearly hypo-thermic. The hottub was my saving grace.

So tonight, three bands at the Birchmere. Tomorrow night we're all in Philly, then NYC at the Bowery Ballroom. Grey Fox this weekend then Rockygrass... and on and on.

Stay in touch.

6.27.08 Ryman and the ROMP

Last night we opened for Earl Scruggs at the Ryman Auditorium. Very cool, very heavy meeting the man himself.

Tomorrow we're headed to ROMP, we'll be seeing our friends G2, Cadillac Sky and Crooked Still. Then it's a couple weeks off before our full-on Summer Tour. We'll be at Winnipeg Folk, Grey Fox and Rockygrass Festivals, also dates in D.C., Philadelphia, Boston and NYC.

The fall tour schedule is filling out as well, we'll be doing some club touring (meaning more dates in more cities) so check back. We're also going to be posting some new live tracks this week or next.

6.23.08 Pandolfi Featured on Pursue the Passion

Chris Pandolfi was interviewed by Pursue the Passion, a group of college students traveling around the country in an RV interviewing individuals who are passionate about their work. The mission is to re-inspire the current and future workforce. You can read their mission statement here.

They are friends of friends of the band and happened through town during IBMA week last year. Needless to say, Chris had a lot to talk about. You can watch the interview, complete with candid shots of the band at pursuethepassion.com.

Check it out, it's a really interesting insight into the most interesting guy in the band!! (only half kidding).

We had a great time in Washington hanging out with Cadillac Sky. We closed out the festival, both bands on stage. I traded bass with Moritz and verses on Blue Night with Mike Jump, complete with a rock-star-style mic-in-hand verse at the front of the stage. Very hard to explain.

This thursday we're at the Ryman with Earl Scruggs. This Saturday we're at the ROMP with Cadillac Sky, Daley Vincent, Crooked Still and G2 Bluegrass Band. Stay in touch.

6.21.08 1 on the Charts and Caddy Sky in Wenatchee

Hey,
We're spending the weekend hanging with our friends Cadillac Sky at the Wenatchee Bluegrass Festival in Washington. Last night we picked old Martins and ate pulled pork. Today after an accidental 10 mile run (hard to explain how you accidentally run 10 miles, but it can be, and was, done, by me, this morning) we gathered the troops (about half of each band) and headed into the mountains for a hike. On the way back Brian played us their new record. It's really cool, not sure when it comes out but when it does you should check it out.

We play the headlining set tonight then fly back to Nashville tomorrow for a couple weeks (mostly) off. We're doing the Ryman this Thursday with Earl Scruggs and the ROMP festival with Cadillac Sky, Crooked Still and G2 Bluegrass Band. A full week off leaves us in the heart of our Summer Tour. We'll be rocking our new summer tour posters, featuring white-on-black drawings of all of us by Tapecat.

First weeks record sales were good. We debuted at 1 on the Billboard Bluegrass charts and we're still climbing the Americana Radio chart. We hope that everyone's digging the record. You can still get it on iTunes for $7.99, so you don't have an excuse for not listening to it yet. Thanks to everyone who made the effort to get the record on it's release week. We really appreciate it. Let us know if there's anything you need.

6.11.08 Album Poll on the Website

Someone started a poll on the website about folks favorite song on the record. Hopefully it won't start any fights amongst the band members, but I'm very curious to know what everyone thinks.

http://www.thestringdusters.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=255

you have to get a username to take part, but it's really simple. You can also see what everyone else is talking about on the forum, check it out.
