The Yellow Scarf
Category: Art and Photography
THIS IS A COPY FROM MY BLOG ENTRY AT SUEANNAJOE.BLOGSPOT.COM
Meet my friend, the Yellow Scarf. These were among the shots I took when I was working at KL Motion Picture Co. Was at the office, wasn't much to do as the company just started when I was working there, about 2 years back. So, I was alone in the office, and decided to play around with the scarf I had.
I liked how the hallway to the kitchen looked, so I thought that it would make a nice set. Plus the sunlight coming through those grills. Definitely visually delicious. So I placed my camera on top of the chair I was sitting on, adjusted it, and as usually, set the timer, and I quickly dashed into position, and threw the scarf into the air.
I took a number of 9 shots and fell in love with these two.
" My Friend, the Yellow Scarf" " We meet again, Yellow Scarf" For all you technical geeks out there, here's the EXIF data, same for both, just different timing:
Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 350D DIGITAL Shutter Speed: 1/1000 second F Number: F/3.5 Focal Length: 18 mm ISO Speed: 100 Date Picture Taken: Aug 10, 2006, 5:30:23 PM & 5:30:55 PM
No major edits to the first image "My Friend, the Yellow Scarf", just enhanced the colors to bring out the yellow, and make it a look a little more lively. Original one was shot horizontally which I cropped vertically, to focus on the subject.
And in "We meet again, Yellow Scarf", obvious edits, where I desaturated the image and gave it a sepia tint, and leaving only the scarf in yellow. Notice that the reflection is also in yellow. Remember people, attention to detail is super important! The desaturation & sepia tint, was to create a nostalgic feel, just as the title says 'we meet again'. I also darkened the edges of the image, to get that vintage old photograph vibe to it. And of course, I had to maintain the yellow color of the scarf, if not it wouldn't be THE YELLOW SCARF now would it?

Best Poster Award, Filem Festival Malaysia - 21
Category: Life
My highest gratitude to the Almighty God for giving me the chance to receive this award, which is 'Anugerah Reka Cipta' under the Best Movie Poster category for the movie Susuk, directed by Naeim Ghalili & Amir Muhammad.
I'd like to thank my parents of course, my wonderful husband, my buddy Ila for being there with me during the photoshoot, I-Lan for helping out with the conceptualization, Naeim, Amir and Dhojee for having your trust in me to do this poster.
Originally this was only as the teaser poster, including 2 other images, but then GB decided to use this one as the official movie poster for Susuk. However the graphic designer did some further manipulation to the hands to make it look more creepy. Wooo. And all the typography as well. And it all worked beautifully!
And again, thank you so much, to the guys at GB, especially Dhojee, then Naeim & Amir for letting me take the trophy and prize money or 10, 000 MYR.
Honestly, I did not expect that at all. Getting the award was more than enough to make me happy for a very long time. Ahaha. And to actually be able to bring it back, just makes me ooze with uber excitement and happiness and endless gratitude.
Although this is the less important award, just a tiny thing among the other awards, it is indeed a personal achievement. Especially receiving and award for something I love doing, such an honor! And I haven't even been such a good girl, I feel that God is being too kind to me, which makes me a little bit sad. Sometimes I feel, I just don't deserve it. Sigh.
But, I am happy and thankful nevertheless. I hope that this is a stepping stone to more opportunities. Who knows one day I might even be an Art Director or a Director of Photography, since I've already tried out this whole film industry. Now that'd be something huh!
*starts fantasizing*

The Times
Category: Art and Photography
THIS IS A COPY FROM MY BLOG ENTRY AT SUEANNAJOE.BLOGSPOT.COM
May 19th, 2008, I had the privilege to shoot a local Malaysian band called The Times. It was really a last minute thing as both sides were kinda caught up with stuff. I wasn't completely satisfied with the shoot as what I conceptualized earlier with them didn't really happen. Le sigh. Anyways, thanks to dear Ted Adnan who was wonderful enough to not only let me use his studio, but he helped me out with the lighting indoors and outdoors! Seriously I used to have an anti thing towards artificial lighting, cause I prefer au natural. But it does help alot, and makes a huge difference, and extremely useful in low light conditions. I seriously gotta learn all these lighting stuff. Planning to attend one of his workshops in the future.
Anyways this is one of the behind the scene shots during the shoot outdoor. Kinda cool huh!!

Group shot!! I'm so tiny!!

This was shot in Ted's studio; Barebone Studio in Kajang. Originally shot in colour then converted to black and white. You definitely should click on this image to view it larger!

Then, some shots outside. Kinda like this one too. It's like we're kinda standing, or walking quite organized heading to some place, and it so happens someone took a picture of us doing it. Ahaha.

And last, but not least. Probably a favorite of most. The lighting is to die for (thanks to sir Ted!) Probably this shot would've been normal without the lighting. Hmm, definitely has motivated me to pick my arse up and start learning all this technical stuff, lighting, e.t.c...
The Times @ MySpace: myspace.com/timesmovement The Times @ [V] Amp: amp.channelv.com/thetimes Ted Adnan: tedadnan.com Their album is coming out soon. Can't wait to see what they do with the pictures I took. Eeekss!! Alritey, till my next entry. Oh and a gazillion thank yous to Farah for helping me out and temaning me the whole day, and made you skip work! Hehehe. Okay all, bubye!
Much love, Anna.

Kids on film.
Category: Art and Photography
THIS IS A COPY FROM MY BLOG ENTRY AT SUEANNAJOE.BLOGSPOT.COM These were shot on my Nikon FM3A, seriously can't remember the film, pretty much jumbled up from Kodak to Fuji. Some were scanned right from the film while others from print. The tones from ones scanned from film turns out a bit funky, and mostly purplish. Some seem to lack of contrast. Must be my scanner. Because in print it turns out differently. So had to readjust the tones on some to get rid of the purple/bluish cast. Need to get a better film scanner. Suggestions of a good scanner anyone? Hmm.
I have more of these kids, ones shot on digital. Which I probably will upload in my next entry.
Anyways, all of these are my nieces and nephew. I have 3 nieces, and 1 nephew. They belong to my first and second brother and of course their wives/my sister-in-laws. He he. Love these kids to bits. I can't wait to have some of my own.
___________
Aisya, 1+ year old niece. Squatting to pick up a ball. The whites were a bit too overexposed. The foot on the far right belongs to her sister, Fairuz.
 ___________
I absolutely adore her little gold mary-janes. Just too cute! Aisya & her 7 year old sister Fairuz. Can't really remember what they were doing here.
 ___________
Aisya again. That's the ball she was picking up above. She's checking out her own reflection. Hehe, the diaper butt. Adorable.
 ___________
Aisya having fun with bubbles. And me, having fun taking the shot. That's her bibik/nanny carrying her.

___________
This is Aisya's sister, Fairuz. Taken a few years ago. Aisya wasn't around of course! Her in her favourite costume outfit, Super Girl! I think she was about 3+ years old in this?

___________
Fairuz and her cousin, my nephew, Imran. Same age, born only 2 days apart. Cool huh. Probably fighting over the blue balloon? Also shot a few years ago, I'm thinking that they were 3 years old when this was taken.

___________
Now this is Nabilah. 4 years old. Imran's sister, therefore Fairuz's & Aisya's cousin, which makes her my niece. Hehe. She absolutely loves the camera. She has such gorgeous dresses. Just cut her hair short about 2 weeks ago. Drawing with Imran & Fairuz here.

___________
Fairuz, Imran & Nabilah in the kitchen. Fairuz in an all denim uh jumper? Imran & Nabilah getting ready for their Taekwando lessons.

___________
Finally, this is Selma. The newcomer. Born premature. She's now about 5 months old. Youngest sister of Fairuz & Selma. Cousins of Imran & Nabilah. Niece of mine.

So yeah, that's about it for this entry. More of my real life shots. Bits and pieces of my life, of the people I love. ~Anna

E-mail me your photo & I’ll critique! Wee.
Category: Art and Photography
Changed the word CRITIC to CRITIQUE Thanks to yorkiez for pointing it out. And I thought critique was just a fancier version of the word critic. Hehe
Hey guys,
Thought I do something else for a change. I always get messages asking me to view their photos and give them a comment or two. But it’s hard to keep up with it here on myspace.
So here’s the chance. Just e-mail me ONE photo/artwork of yours and I’ll try and give you my comments. I’ll try to be as constructive as possible. I’m not a professional, but I guess I can just give my personal opinion.
And hopefully get some other comments from other viewers as well, and perhaps have a discussion going on.
If you’re interested. E-mail your photo (only one please) to sueannajoe@gmail.com.
I will be uploading this critique session over at my blog at sueannajoe. blogspot. com. Hope you guys could pitch in with some of your own opinions/comments. Thanks!
Much Love, Anna

It’s been a while since I posted anything!! (Very long entry)
Category: Life
Hey everyone.
It's been quite a crazy 2008. And some crazy shit has been happening on myspace, especially with some of my past bulletins, first about the clothing issues, and second was about my contemplation about the comment/crit I got over in my shoutbox in my blog at blogspot.
Anyways, I really love to abuse the bulletins. Probably sometimes I abuse it a bit too much? Not that I post often, but when I do/did, it's usually it's something I feel that should be discussed and that I would want feedback from the masses. I've got a mixture of those who agree or disagree, positive and negative.
Some to the point where I've been said to ruin my 'reputation' whatever that is in just one night through the bulletins. I've also been said one who loves to seek attention, and that I rely so much on the internet to gain popularity.
The bulletin is certain an easy way to get a point out, or to promote my new works, or as mentioned above, to get feedback on certain issues I have orobservations I've made. And some have been shall I say quite controversial. And so, I guess that's where my so called reputation and attention seeking was implied.
I guess, some people tend to take certain things a bit too seriously. We all are guilty of that at some points, especially if it kinda relates to you, and we tend to get provoked, irritated by it. And they rest just don't really give a damn. It's just the internet. It's just some girl on myspace.
But we tend, and perhaps I tend to take for granted, there is some sort of power to say the least that does leave an effect to some. Ones obvious would be those clothing labels I mentioned a while back. I don't regret what I said, I still believe in it, but my approach, as some mentioned, was a bit too harsh perhaps for some. But in the end, life goes on, things are back to normal. Just like it never really happened. It's pretty much like a trend or season, it comes and goes.
Hoping though, that I did at least made some think about those things, agree or disagree it's really up to you, they, she or he.
The problem we have, especially in Malaysia I think is that we're not that opened to honesty, and criticism, especially in the art scene. And even when comments or critics are made, it's usually either just being positive like , yeah good, excellent, great, which boosts ones ego and motivates, yeah, and either totally negative like, it sucks, hate it, or just plain silence.
I've seen only a few constructive crits, mostly on the film industry. But not much on the visual side, arts, photography, and music as well.
For those who know, my band Super Animal Junkies, relatively new. Our first 2 performance was okay, but the 3rd one which was our latest and a while ago, was terrible. HUGE problem I and the band have is stage fright, lack of confidence and extremely sucky showmanship. Elements which are super important when performing. It didn't help much performing in between great local acts like Zip Zeiler, Komplot & Otherside Orchestra. Their showmanship is just superb.
Thing is, no one really comes up and say, hey, IMO you guys need to improve on this and that. Or perhaps we're so terrible that they people don't even bother to comment? Haha. Thing is, people do critic, but usually just among friend and themselves. But people can't be blamed, or bother to critic. And not everyone can accept critic well. Especially artsy people, tend to be very sensitive, and defensive.
I went to this workshop earlier today, for short film. And asked, Zahir, the guy who won the previous BMW Shorties, about how they receive criticism. Zahir said, 'fuck it', it's my thing and you can't take that away from me, however, if the crit, is something that I too feel similar about, than I take note of that.
I have very little 'fuck it' in me. I guess I could blame my junior high school days, I felt the inferiority, I was such a nerd, such a wannabe, such a loser, such a poseur. I wasn't the popular girl in school, wasn't the pretty one. Yeah some were my friends, and some were total bitches, I even still have some grudges against them that I wish I could get rid of, as it was all really an immature age back then. But during those teen years, it's such a fragile, fragile age, and it can definitely leave a huge impact on your life in the future.
But it wasn't all that bad. I wouldn't really turn back time. It made me what I am today. But my grudges are perhaps the reason of my flaws, my melodramas, my 'attention seeking', and me ruining my reputation in just one night through myspace bulletins. Haha.
Some might have heard, that I recently had an imposter profile on myspace. This user used my images, manipulated my eyes, making em cross eyed, changed the captions, like one of my photos were I said 'do you want to be my friend'- friend was changed to enemy instead. So yeah, so now I officially have a hater. Yeay me.
I did send this person personal messages, asking why, what I did wrong, and especially wanted to know who this person actually is. Hidden behind a twin me. I mean, if you have something to say, just say it, show who you are and say it to me, let's meet up over coffee or something and talk about it. The profile has been removed by the myspace staff. You go guys! It took a few days for it to be taken down though.
This person was expecting that I'd mention about this profile over the bulletin, knowing I'm the 'attention seeker, & glam queen'. But I knew better, so I didn't, back then. But I just can't resist, so I just have to mention it a bit. Anyways, after some investigation, I've found out who this person is. I might be wrong, but I have a pretty good feeling that I nailed the right person. So hoping that I did, we could finally have that coffee and probably pull on each others hair. Hehe.
We're humans. We all have flaws. People have got to learn how to deal with these flaws, don't take it too seriously, rationalize, try to understand why. But yeah, we're too busy to, there's so much stuff going in on our lives to actually take time to listen understand others. In fact we all have trouble understanding ourselves.
But perhaps, just perhaps, if we take time understanding others, and we can find ourselves and live happily ever after with one another. Haha, yeah right.
(rolls eyes, whatever anna)
*rubs some vaseline on teeth*. I vote for world peace.
Btw, how's everyone else? Anything interesting to share? It was only yesterday we celebrated 2008, and now it's already March! Yikes!! And that makes it about 3 months to go for my wedding!! Weeee.
Much love, Anna "The self-righteous bitch" quoted from my official 1 'fan'.

My Video Blog answering "WHAT CAMERA DO YOU USE?"
NOTE: REPOSTING THE BULLETIN I POSTED YESTERDAY. SO SOME OF YOU MIGHT HAVE ARLEADY READ THIS.
So, I've had numerous questions asking me what camera do I use. I wish I could, but not to be rude, it kinda gets tiring when a lotta ppl keep on asking the same questions over and over again.
Therefore, I decided to come up with a video blog. Do check it out at http://youtube.com/watch?v=B_vTTN62Nus. Or on my blog over at http://sueannajoe.blogspot.com
Also, for those who understand Malay, or curious to hear how the Malay Language sounds like, head on to a different video blog I made earlier, which some might have read about in my previous bulletin post. This is for those who missed out on it, head on over to http://youtube.com/watch?v=axXJv8hnlf0 or my blog at http://bududanbelacan.blogspot.com.
More video blogs to come!
Much Love, Anna

I'm scared shitless!!! Performing @ Acoustic Nite 2.
Current mood: worried
Category: Music
Well, I think there is no backing off this time. Gotta face my fears!! Eek. I haven't practiced even a bit. And I still have the songs to finish up. I only have a few lines, very few lines. Damn.
My first performance back in uh New Years 2006, was traumatic. If you didn't read a bulletin I posted about this a while back it was about how me and my buddies got pushed back cause of some band who couldn't play later as he had to work. Sheesh. And my buddies were the organizers of the event, so they had to give in. Big mistake. The show was supposed to end at midnite. The last band, everyone was waiting for. And we played after them, when people were getting up to leave. How embarassing is that?!
Then the guys who played before us took so long to set up the system, and to perform, and totally messed up the sounds, they cranked it up like crazy, and we had to rush cause it was past midnite so we did a quick soundcheck, and they had to play the songs really fast, which got me confused. Imagine cramming up 4 soungs within 5 minutes??!! So I ended up singing one the same lyrics for 2 songs. I couldn't recognize which was which. Sigh. Our jam sessions went well, le sigh, I guess shit happens.
But that incident has definitely make me lose my confidence. That night my voice didn't really come out, cause I was kinda nervous, but then it got better, as I gain my confidence. Then as I was about to sing my favourite song, kapoof. It was over. Not good.
So anyways, I hope it works out this time. I don't really wanna talk it about it much though, I don't wanna jinx it, and I wasn't sure if I was gonna perform. Mostly because I'm not quite ready, and scared shitless.
I wish I had the balls my good buddy Miss Fynn has. That girl I tell you is crazy, she can perform in front of millions and still have such confidence in her.
I used to do theatre, but that's different. Acting is like, uh being somebody else, and you've all this make up and costume on you, and we're on a stage, and people are quite far, so it's alrite. But singing, singing is a whole different deal. It's pretty much being yourself out there. Ayayayaii!!
Help me!! What do I do to overcome this fear?
Much Love, Anna
