I came across this video the other day and fell in love with it.  I watched it several times and I knew I had to share it here.


In short - the Free Hugs campaign started when Juan Mann, an Australian living in London lost everything and had to go home.  He packed up his belongings and flew home.  When he got there he noticed everyone being greeted by family and friends but he had no one.


he decided to go to one of the busiest intersections in town, make a sign and advertise for free hugs.  Before you know it - he started a movement.


It's amazing the power a hug has. When was the last time you hugged someone?  I'm not talking about family or friends but someone you may not be close with.  How about that person in your doctors office that looks scared to death or is crying?  A co-worker who may be going through a tough time?  A co-worker who might be celebrating? 


Hugs are a powerful powerful force and we shouldn't be afraid to give them away openly...freely..and without fear.


 


 




You don't necesarily have to run out....make a sign and stand in the middle of the Galleria - unless you want to! But give it a shot. Go hug someone. I swear it's fun and it will make you feel like a million bucks. And I guarantee - the person you're hugging is going to feel it too!

Post Vacation Chatter

Hey and Good Morning!

I know..I know.  I've been back from vacation for over a week and you haven't heard a peep from me.  It's amazing how much work can accumulate on one's desk when they aren't here and there is no one to do your work!  It seems that things have escalated at the office a little with a storm in the offing.  When you work for a medical facility these things start being closely monitored and plans set in place at least 5 days out.

So about vacation... Steve was a hit with mom and dad and vacation was a blast.  We covered a lot of ground in the time that we were there and were able to spend time with both our families.

Pictures are coming slow but sure.  There are a lot that didn't come out because it was raining the first two days there and we all pretty much looked like drowned rats but I'm trying to get the best of the bunch out there.   I'm getting them posted as quickly as I can!

I hope to get a couple more blogs posted before the end of the day tomorrow.  I've got some great stuff coming - at least I think they're pretty great and there will be some vacation blogs too.

Meet The Parents Round 2

Well..I'm in the final countdown til my vacation to Florida to see mom and dad.  It's going to be the longest vacation I've taken in quite a while as this time I'm going for a week.   But this time  - it's different.  It's the meet the parents trip for Steve.  He hasn't met mom and dad yet and it's time for his big debut.  This is probably something that should have happened before now, but since mom and dad aren't local - there was planning involved. 

I have to admit that I'm a little nervous.   I have no doubt that everyone is going to get a long and have a blast.  I know for sure that mom and dad will love him and think he's the greatest thing since sliced bread.  So why so nervous?  I haven't done the whole "meet the parents" thing since before I was married and that was about 22 years ago. I've been divorced for 13 years now so I guess it's time.

There are lots of activities planned while there including seeing mom play softball, a trip to Bush Gardens, ocean kayaking, dinner with Steve's aunt and uncle, etc.. so I'm sure when I get back there will be all kinds of things to report.  I seriously doubt I'll get here too much while I'm away.  But I promise lots of pictures and stories upon my return!

That's it for now..I'll get a couple of recipes up before I go.

Saw this interesting news story...

26 cheerleaders rescued after cramming into UT elevator

One girl was treated and released at a hospital and two others were treated at the scene after the Tuesday night prank, officials said.

The group of 14- to 17-year-olds were attending a cheerleading camp when they decided to stuff themselves into an elevator at Jester Residence Hall at UT. The elevator went down to the first floor but then the doors of the overloaded elevator wouldn't open, officials said.

After a few panicked cell phone calls, police and firefighters were called to the scene and it took a repairman about 25 minutes to fix the door, police said.

UT officials didn't think the prank was all that funny.

"It's dangerous, actually," UT police spokeswoman Rhonda Weldon said. "They're lucky that that's all that happened."

 

Ok - I know.  There are a lot of jokes here and this news story makes it VERY easy!!  And I can't say too much because I've pulled more than my share of bone head pranks.  BUT

Where was the adult supervision?   Did anyone's parent at any point in time teach them any common sense?  I realize that 26 cheerleaders don't weigh a whole lot - but someone could have been severely hurt

Now that I've lectured and finger pointed..... let the jokes begin!!!  I won't even start the ball rolling ..it's just too easy!

Fabulous Fruit Salad

Here's a nice refreshing side dish to any one of the Grilling ideas I've posted or with your favorite meat dish!!

FABULOUS FRUIT SALAD

1 lg red apple cored amd chopped

1 lg granny smith apple cored and chopped

1 med necatrine pitted and sliced

2 stalks of celery

1/2 cup dried cranberries

1/2 cup chopped walnuts

1 eight ounce container of non-fat lemon yogurt

In a large bowl combine all ingredients, mix in the yogurt and let chill for about an hour.

Calories 250, Cholesterol <1mg, 36 carbs, 5.8g protein

I'm not trying to blog you to death today but I had to post this for Sylvia.... not any particular reason but i was reading back over old blogs and came across this one from last Spring.   Remember Sylvia??  The BIG BIG dare that you thought I would never do????

No seriously - this is the long awaited Better Sex Diet blog that I've been dancing around, avoiding and putting off.

We're going to be using some big people words tonight so if you're easily offended... wellll.. you've got two choices.  You can stop reading now or you can just practice these two very important words with me.

PENIS!!   Yes - I said penis.  And I'm gonna say it a bunch more times too so get used to it.   The other grown up word??? VAGINA  Yeah I know.  It's tough but I think we can get through it!!

If you look at commercials today and walk the aisles of your local drug store you might think that the best way to combat a libido problem is to pop a pill.  For men there are all types of pills and potions.  In 2005 Amricans spent just over $1.4 billion to treat sexual dysfunction disorders alone.  And that's just on the men.   And this article is going to be geared - mostly to you guys.   I'm sorry - this is nothing personal - it's just where all the research is and it's also the blog dare that I received from my friend Sylvia - who used to be here on myspace.

So back to the pills and potions. These cures are great for correcting a dysfunction but they dont do a whole lot for arousing passion.  Yes - passion.  Passion is a key ingredient for fireworks in the bedroom.  And you thought it was beer and a football game!   

We've all heard about the food items that are supposed to increase your sex drive.   Raw Oysters - which I personally love - but I've never noticed the desire to drag my signficant other from a seafood restaurant and have my way with him in the car.   They're just good!

Dark chocolate is another food thats supposed to increase sex drive.  I don't know about before sex - lol but chocolate during sex... welll... never mind . lol  Figs are another one.  I dont know about you but the only way I really like figs is in Fig Newtons! 

Then there's the straight up porn.  Nothing sets the romantic fires burning faster than a porn flick.  Right? Wrong.   They might help you get aroused but they certainly arent going to help you perform.

So peeps - I'm here to offer an alternative to porn, oysters, dark chocolate, figs and any other myth that has come down the pike.  How about diet.  I know... it's a dirty word.  But diet is key.

Ladies - try some soy in your diet.  It assists in natural lubrication.  There's a little science there about estrogen receptors but I'll spare you the science lecture ... lol but yes indeedy I'm talking about vaginal lubrication.  Now before you get that weird look ... you drink the soy.  As in milk.  You do not put soy in your nightstand drawer.   However - I've heard of stranger things being used and who am I to question your particular "thing"

From an erection standpoint - if the food is good for the blood vessells running to the heart - it's just as good for the ones running to your penis. A diet low in saturdated fat keeps blood running from head to toe.  And if I remember biology right - you guys kinda need the blood running to all parts.  Reduced blood flow could certainly result in your soldier's inability to stand at attention.  If you catch my drift! LOL  Alright...alright I'll say it.  If you eat a bunch of crap high in saturated fats - your ability to get a quality erection is minimized.  And trust me.  If we ladies are doing our part and drinking our soy and maintaining lubricaction - you damn well better be getting a quality erection!

Ok - so now you want to know what kinds of foods should you eat?  It's important to remember that this isnt going to work if you serve it up just before you want to get your groove on.  You need to do it on a regular basis!

Well here they are:

Mushrooms, spinach, fish, veggies - the bright colored ones as well as the dark greens.   So think stuff like red bell peppers.... yellow peppers.... tomatoes..broccoli...Then there's fruit.   Berries.  Berries are fantastic antioxidants and we can all use them in our diets

I know - it all sounds healthy.  And I hate to do that to you - but it truly does make a difference. Add these items to your daily diet.  It really won't kill you to pass up What A Burger or Pizza Hut and have a nice piece of grilled salmon

So there you go.   You know how to start eating... so line up the little blue pills on the night stand..light a few candles...whip out the sexy lingerie, fur lined handcuffs and whatever else it is you do... and enjoy some great passionate sex!

A Summer Re-Post

I posted this last summer and it really does bear repeating!  I've been noticing some feet lately and we really do need to get the word out! 

SUMMER FEET PLEDGE

 

Yes.... summer is here.  When the temperatures go up - the sandals and flip flops come out.   BUT before any one you slip into your summer comfort we have some very important business to take care of.   Are you ready???  Take a deep breath... ...

 

Please raise your big toes and repeat after me:

I pledge to follow these rules when wearing sandals and other open-toe shoes:

I promise to always wear sandals that fit.

My toes  and my toe nails will not hang over and touch the ground, nor will my heels spill over the backs.

And the sides and top of my feet will not "pudge-out" between the straps.

I will go polish-free or vow to keep the polish fresh, intact and chip-free. I will not cheat and just touch up my big toe.

I will sand down any mounds of skin before they turn hard and yellow.

I will not live in corn denial. Rather, I will lean on my good friend, Dr. Scholl's, if my feet need him.

I will shave the hairs off my big toe.

I won't wear pantyhose with sandals even if my misinformed girlfriend, co-worker, mother or sister tells me the toe seam really will stay under my toes if I tuck it there.

If a strap breaks, I won't duct-tape, pin, glue or tuck it back into place hoping it will stay put. I will get my shoe fixed or toss it.

I will resist the urge to buy jelly shoes for the low, low price of $4.99 even if my feet are small enough to fit into the kids' sizes.

This is out of concern for my safety and the safety of others. No one can walk properly when standing in a pool of sweat, and I would hate to take someone down with me as I fall and break my ankle.

I will take off my toe ring toward the end of the day if my toe swells and begins to look like a Vienna sausage.

I will be brutally honest with my girlfriend, sister or co-worker when she asks me if her feet are too ugly to wear sandals. Someone has to tell her that her toes are as long as my fingers and no sandal makes creepy feet look good!

I've been going faithfully and getting my tootsies done!  I even get little flowers painted on my big toe!  

And as a side note...guys?  Men get pedicures too!

A Fitness Craze??

Well.. I had something different to blog this morning but Smooch left me a hilarious comment and I had to share it here!

For years now various companies have been selling fitness equipment and ideas all designed for the person that doesn't want to exercise.   Get fit while keeping your ass on the couch!   WOW!  If I had known it was that easy - I never would have gone to the gym!   I thought I had seen it all until this was in my e-mail this morning...

 

 

LOL  - thats one of the funniest things I've ever seen!!   Good thing about this one is that it makes it very difficult to eat ice cream while you're getting fit!!

Sweet ’n’ Hot Glazed Salmon

I bet you thought I wasn't going to post something!  Well you're wrong!  I know I'm cutting it close but it's been a busy evening with the gym, laundry, mani-pedi etc.    BUT never fear.  Here is a great recipe that you don't have to light the grill for.  You can do it right in the oven.  This recipe is for 4 servings

Sweet 'N' Hot Glazed Salmon

1 1/2 cups apricot nectar (the canned stuff)

1/3 cup chopped dried apricots

2 tbs honey

2tbs soy salt (the low sodium variety)

1 Tbs grated ginger (the fresh stuff - it's in the produce department)

2 cloves fresh garlic minced

1/8 tsp cayenne pepper

1/4 tsp cinnamon

One 3/4 pound salmon filet without the skin

Pre-heat boiler and grease your broiling pan

In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the nectar, apricots, honey, soy sauce, ginger, garlic cinamon and cayenne.  Bring to a boil then reduce to a medium low and simmer for 20 minutes or until reduced by half.  KEEP YOUR EYE ON IT.  Stir occasionally so it won't stick.   Don't walk away and watch Big Brother or something. 

Remove 1/4 cup of the glaze for basting and set the rest aside

Set the salmon filet on the pan and brush with the glaze. Broil 3 inches from the heat for 8 - 12 minutes or until the salmon flakes easily with a fork.  Gently turn once during cooking and baste frequently for the last 4 minutes.   Serve with the remaining glaze.  

Remember to stay in the kitchen while you cook this.  It isn't something that you can just toss in the oven then go do something else!  EDGAR!!

Heres the nutritional stuff...

Calories 274, cholesterol 50 mg, sodium 321 mg, carbs 30, protein 18.3g

Have a nice dose of brown rice and a salad or some steamed veggies and you've got yourself a nice healthy meal!

Chicken, Feta Cheese and Sundried Tomato Wraps

Hey..lookie here!  Two days in a row!  Must be some type of record for me.

I know, i can hear some of you already.  Feta Cheese?  EWWWW!  but before you put on your wrinkly yuck face - just give it a try.  I swear it won't hurt you.  Be happy I haven't thrown tofu at you yet!!

This particular recipe makes 4 serving.  A serving is one wrap. 

Chicken Feta Cheese and Sundried Tomato Wraps

2 four ounce boneless skinless chicken breast halves

1/4 cup sun-dried tomato dressing

8 sundried tomatoes  (NOT oil packed)

1 cup boiling water

1/3 cup crumbled feta cheese

4 cups loosely packed FRESH spinach

4 ten inch whole wheat tortillas   (Stop complaining - yes whole wheat)

1/4 cup sun-dried tomato dressing ( to drizzle on the wraps)

In a large resealable plastic bag place the chicken breast halves and 1/4 cup dressing.  Refrigerate for at least two hours.

Pre-heat grill for high heat. 

Combine the sundried tomatoes and boiling water in a bowl.  Set aside for ten minutes.   Drain well then thinly slice

Lightly oil grill grate.  Discard the marinade.  Grill the chicken for 12 - 15 minutes turning once

Cut chicken into strips and place into a bowl with the sundried tomatoes and spinach.  Add feta and 1/4 cup dressing.  Toss well. 

Distribute the mixture between the 4 tortillas and wrap.  Cut in half and enjoy cold or put it briefly back onto the grill until warm and crispy.

Nutritional Info Per Wrap:  390 Calories,  14.6g fat, 44mg cholesterol, 52.3 carbs, 23.4g protein
