"Take Obama to the store"
Current mood: chill
Category: News and Politics
My son Devin has been watching the debates and CNN with me. I think it's a great time to teach kids about how elections work, government and politics. My son is only 4 years old but hey, why not start early? So Devin told me his thoughts and my awesome boyfriend edited the video clips into a great video for youtube. Check it out.
As my dad said "Always good to hear from those whom the government has saddled with all the debts ... since they have so many billions of interest to pay they should get involved ... even at 4"

Mosaic
across miles, deserts and dusty remains of truth, I crawled upon my wounded knees collecting scattered shards of a half life into my battered hands breathing the hot breath of the sun into the moonless nights of a frozen heart i lay alone and for this i could have fallen into the sky happily intoxicated with it's mysteries but i was bound tight to this dirt by one truth stronger than the pull and push of tides
somewhere you exist.
and so i dragged on with pockets full of pieces that made no sense until with you a mosaic of all the dreams of two hearts became something I always knew drenched in your waters with full belly of truth
i awoke.

This is the new company logo I created for Beyond Your Words. I was a little skeptical of hand painting it. (I really need to learn design programs) I thought it might be too busy as logo's are usually simple but I really like how it turned out. The copy in my photo section is better quality. :)
Hope you are all having a great day =^..^=

*NEW* Turtles Upon Turtles
Current mood: contemplative
Category: Life
I've been wrapping my brain around itself and back again for the past few hours.. Thinking about physics, chemistry, quantum mechanics and basically the makings of life and the universe. As satisfying as it is to me to stretch my brain and fathom ideas of meaning and grander I just can't help but think it all just ends up being turtles upon turtles.
Let me explain...
Many moons ago I was reading Stephen Hawking's book A Brief History of Time, which begins with a story of an encounter between a scientist and an old lady: A well-known scientist was giving a public lecture on astronomy. He described how the Earth orbits around the sun and how the sun, in turn, orbits around the center of a vast collection of stars called our galaxy. At the end of the lecture, a little old lady at the back of the room got up and said: "What you have told us is rubbish. The world is really a flat plate supported on the back of a giant tortoise." The scientist gave a superior smile before replying, "What is the tortoise standing on?" "You're very clever, young man, very clever," said the old lady. "But it's turtles all the way down!"
This story has always stuck with me and remains my favorite answer when people ask me my views on the universe.. It might as well be turtles upon turtles. My point is not to say that searching for answers and meaning is useless (far from that) but just that no matter what answers we find there will always be more questions. I love this about the universe, I don't want an absolute.. I thrive on the possibilities of what could be.
It's amazing to me that some 15 billion years ago badda Bang! Nucleosynthesis.. the stars were born.. and heavy elements were created within them.. then the beautiful death we call supernova and stardust fills the universe... creating life, and here we are.. chillin on a spinning ball eating cheetos at 5:22am. We should all be eating cheetos right now! Yum. Crunch crunch! :) We sit here not thinking that we are made up of billion year old carbon and a hella lot of empty space. I say empty space because the atom itself is 99.9% empty space and we are made of about 7 billion billion billion atoms.. on average. "We are chiefly made of nothing" -Carl Segan. The heavy elements that make us are so rare that they only account for only 1% of 1% of what makes up the universe. Did you know that there are about as many cells in a human being as there are atoms in a cell.. and as many atoms in the human body as stars in the visible universe. isn't that mind boggling. It's so astounding.
we are all phantoms, we are stardust, we are a universe within a universe within.. you know (turtles upon turtles) We are the same not only as eachother but as everything that is. We exist only in relation to eachother and the universe... We cannot survive alone. The whole universe is created and lives through it's relationships. I think what i'm saying is.. i need you.. hold me. haha ;)
It's just Turtles upon turtles my friends... or as a friend of mine says "it all equals out to zero" A big zero on a turtles back I say!
Now I will listen to the birds sing before the cars start rushing past, I'll stop typing nonsense and start creating art.. or something like it.
Watch this video if you have the time... it's awesome!

This is a really bad copy of a sketch I did for my friend Cleo.. This is based off a dream she had. A scan of the sketch would look cleaner but because I drew the comic too big to fit in my scanner we get this bad photo copy. If I ever find time i'll ink it and get a better copy for you guys to see. Hope you like it.

Life is fragile
Current mood: thankful
Category: Life
I've been thinking about the fragility of life today and how every moment is precious. I hear myself and others say things like "there is always time" or "maybe some other time" but there isn't always time for anything. The only moment we have for sure is the one we are in. It's so easy to put things off. I'm a list maker, I write out things I want to do and very seldom do I actually do them. I am not going to let fear, worry, money or self doubt block me any longer. Time is precious. I could be gone tomorrow and if I was I would be disappointed that I let fear and self doubt play such a role in my life. No one is perfect or has all the answers; there isn't anyone out there who can say they have nothing left to learn. Life is constant learning and there is always room to grow. There will always be someone better skilled, better looking or better spoken but they will never be you, they will never be me.
I was dancing with my son earlier tonight after receiving some very bad news.. I was looking at him as we were spinning and laughing and as he smiled at me.. The bad news drifted away for that moment and I felt pure joy. It was a moment I can't put into words. I know if you are a parent you understand.. Loving someone unconditionally is so amazing. I am so lucky to be a mother.
I have not spent much time in my life with my own mother. I wonder how to say goodbye knowing she will be gone soon. Can you ever really put in words what is in your heart? I let so much time pass and now I am just grateful that I have time left, as little as it might be. I am lucky.
I want to share with all of you who are taking the time to read this something that I'm sure you already know... Life is fragile. The time to do or say anything is now. Tell the people you love what they mean to you as often as you can, hug a lot, laugh a lot and share moments that are so amazing that there are no words to explain them.
That's all. I have to pack; I have somewhere I need to be.
