tegan r. quin
Current mood: accomplished
Category: Art and Photography

Dear Tegan and Sara fans,

Its Tegan! Sorry I haven't written in so long. For the first time ever in our career I have taken a step back and
I've been trying to have a real summer vacation. Here are some of the things I have done so far:

1. Played an amazing show in Vancouver at the Under the Volcano Festival!
2. Spoke at the Pacific Audio Visual Institute about my career and what I do when I'm not
on tour or making music. (nothing)
3. Made multiple trips to 7-11 for slurpees.
4. Danced at many bars in and around Vancouver and LA for money. (kidding, sort of)
5. Shot a new video for CALL IT OFF!
6. Confirmed a show in Columbus Ohio with Death Cab for Cutie on October 8th as well as
added a date in Omaha on the 10th of October!
7. Didn't practice the song I wrote for Augusten Burroughs in response to the intense excitement/pressure
I feel building inside of me in preparation for our Spin Book Club Event at Housing Works in NY on
the 4th. (thank you for helping us sell this out already!!! we have a couple tickets to give away next week)
8. Cracked the whip to ensure our catalog is now available EVERYWHERE in the world on ITUNES!!!!
Check your home country's store to find This Business of Art (2000), If It Was You (2002), So Jealous (2004), and The Con (2007)!
9. Went surfing with Sara in Tofino British Columbia. www.surfsister.com.
10. Got a bit sun burned sitting on my roof with my mom multiple days.
11. Wrote a bunch of news songs and then let NO ONE hear them!
12. Got my first manicure!
13. Went swimming in a lake!
14. Talked extensively about getting my drivers license.
15. WENT TO COMIC CON! WITH CHAD FROM NEW FOUND GLORY!!!
16. Listened to Rachael Cantu's new songs and thought....geez if I were a record label person I'd give
HER a record deal ASAP!
17. Slept with the light on for more than 2 weeks because I was too lazy to get an electrician in to
rewire my ceiling fan that's broken.
18. Got an electrician to finally come over and fix it and magically the night before it started working again.
19. Saw Angels and Airwaves at the Commodore as well as the Faint and had an amazing time!
20. Saw the Macbeth catalogs with "the Tegan" and "the Sara" shoes that are finally coming out and will be available
this fall!!!
21. Missed touring and wrote really long and extensive emails to the band and crew daily.
22. Started planning what old songs we are going to play with City and Color and Girl in A Coma.
23. Wrote a list of things I did to our Fans on Myspace.

So this concludes my blog to you guys.

Be well, wear sunscreen, and if you live in Australia, buy your tickets to one of our upcoming festival dates and stay tuned for a few headlining dates!

Tue 30 - THE FALLS FESTIVAL (Lorne, VICTORIA)
Wed 31 - THE FALLS FESTIVAL (Marion Bay, TASMANIA)
Sat 3 Jan - SOUTHBOUND FESTIVAL (Busselton, WESTERN AUSTRALIA)
Wed 7 Jan - BYRON BAY ARTS AND MUSIC FESTIVAL (Byron Bay, NEW SOUTH WALES)

tickets are on sale for the US shows, selling fast in LA and new york...fyi friends.

last night it was so humid i wore wet socks to bed. i almost knocked on my neighbors door. i KNOW he has air conditioning. i can tell. his windows are never open. he could just be masochistic. but i think he's in his ice box house eating piping hot soup wearing a sweater. and im next door in wet socks quietly whimpering.

if you miss us, we are playing a show in august in vancouver. a political+arts festival "under the volcano"...will be fun and special.

i recently saw wall-e. the movie. i can't stop thinking about it. sometimes i think of specific moments in the movie and i clutch at my heartburn and cry. just finished reading the savage detectives. finally. took me a while to dig through that book. so worth it.

what am i doing with myself this summer? gardening! i have a green thumb. besides gardening, tegan and i hope to write our next album by summers end. new music soon! i also have a personal goal to be able to do "chin ups" . haven't done those since high school. i was recently told i need to build muscle mass. so, basically i will be a body builder in october. watch out world.

hobo elf in germany and US tour dates!
Current mood: anxious

hello friends,

i'm writing to you from hamburg, germany!

i'm wearing the largest white cotton tshirt manufactured on earth. thank you british airways!

it looks absurdly large on me. i've tucked it into the jeans i've been wearing for 32 hours straight and feel convincingly stylish. of course, i'm alone in my hotel room and i'm only convincing myself. i have no luggage and feel amused that i consistently arrive in germany with only the clothes on my back and one of those unhelpful airline packages filled with cheap motel shower supplies (only good for causing rashes and scars to sensitive canadian skin) and a sensationally large white tshirt. i think the airlines do it on purpose. the least they could do is offer an elf package. something with a smaller clothing option? maybe?

so here i sit, listening to chants and honks and applause. football anyone!? i'm afraid our hotel is in some kind of epicenter of activity. i feel strung out from not sleeping and irrationally fearful that the fair/amusement park across the street is doubling as a holding pen and overflow area for intoxicated sports fans. world cup? i have a feeling based on the intensity of what i've heard this afternoon that my experience of canadian hockey fans politely circling the block for 45 minutes while playing "we are the champions" has not prepared me for what is about to happen post match. i'll keep you posted. go germany!

this hotel may be karmic disaster for us as a group. the last time we were in both hamburg and THIS hotel was hours after we suffered our first bus crash.

i'm trying not to think about THAT. instead, i've been glued to my iphoto, trying to put together some of my favorite shots from bonnaroo. tegan and i guested on tiesto's set at 2am. singing an 8 minute version of "back in your head". tiesto was ridiculously sweet and generous to us, as was the incredible crowd. i felt buzzed and vibrated for hours post set. so thrilling to be in front of that sort of dancing and energy and enthusiasm. i bunged up the lyrics but still had the time of my life. not hyperbole, maybe one of my favorite moments of our career...maybe....my life?

sadly, i suffered a moment of human spaziness and fell down a set of metal stairs. i'm obsessed with my own injuries in general, so this has been an exciting five days of healing and colors and pain. i spent an evening in an emergency room in georgia. i'm going to include photos of both events!

one final shout out to the true colors tour! to cyndi! to the cliks! to the b52's! to rosie! to carson! we had an amazing week. the shows and sets were inspiring. the hrc and the movement, profound. watching the audience during the encore each night moved MY stone heart in ways i feel silly explaining on a myspace blog. google away. true colors, thank you.

finally, in addition to the festivals we have already announced, we are releasing USA tour dates today. this will be the LAST tour we do in support of "the con" stateside... we're excited! two great bands will support! check out below!

A moment on Tour with T and S
Category: Fashion, Style, Shopping

Hi Friends,

We're on tour with The True Colors tour right now. We've had an amazing first week. Cyndi Lauper is amazing as is her band. She gave us incredible personal and professional advice the other night while we were drunk and we're sad we can't remember it because we seem to recall vaguely that it may have been the most incredible stuff anyone has offered up free of charge...ever! The Cliks are on the tour too. We love them and have considered selling Sara to them to embed herself in their band to give us hourly updates as to there whereabouts and state of mind. Rosie Odonnell is the sweetest funniest person EVER and watching the B 52's perform every night is an honor. Regina Spektor was on one show as well and its always a pleasure to share a stage with her. (Raging dance party with her on our bus was pretty fun too). Carson Kressley is hosting the show and hits on our band every night. Which gives me extreme pleasure to watch. They are so CUTE! Even boys love them!

Lots of new pictures up, new tour dates and more merchandise up at the store!

Check it out!!!

300 questions for Sara by Tegan:

T: What are you eating right now?
S: Vegan Sea Salt Rice Chips. They are disgusting.
GROUP: Stop eating them then.
S: Starving, must eat them anyways.
T: Are you having fun on the tour?
S: Yes I am. (Then she burped really loud. It was weird) I really love my bunk on the bus. I love reading and girls and ... Ha. I'm just kidding. Nothing.
T: You went to the zoo today?
S: Yes I did.
T: Was it fun?
S: Yes I had a nice time there.
T: Is it bigger than the one in Calgary.
S: It's an inner city zoo. It was small and I didn't see any animals really. In fact the person who I was with said that the seals may have been all dead. We saw 1. I would have asked for my money back but its free.
T: Its free to get in or the person who was with you paid?
S: Nope its free.
T: How's the new David Sedaris book?
S: Hilarious, like all of his books.
T: I bought it today.
S: Its gahdglkadl (GIANT BURP AGAIN!)
T: I'm sorry what did you say?
S: Mountain Dew..its making me sick...its so carbonated.
T: You know I'm typing this all out...
S: So.
T: Are you taking this seriously at all or do you just want to go to catering?
S: My appetitite has tripled and I want to go now. I have a worm maybe? I'm bingy now apparently...someone said to me recently. Just because I eat as much as a grown man hockey player doesn't mean I'm bingy.
(then sara told me something off the record about someone famous who is now been confirmed as being gay. she says i can't tell you. she says now that im making her sound gossipy.
T: You realize we're doing an interview? You understand that I'm typing what your saying?
S: Yes. Yes it does not need to be included. I said "off the record".
(two more people in the room burp really loud. they are all drinking mountain dew. weird)
S: Its like botulisim in a can.
T: Okay last question.
S: yeah this has been a thrilling interview. I'm sure everyone will be thrilled to hear all these stupid things.
T: Do you feel at all regretful about having agreed to sit down with me and do this interview?
S: No. That's stupid. Why would I be regretful?
(Sara leaves and i can hear her burp in the hallway on the way out...so gross...)

Big hugs and lots of love,
Tegan (and Sara)

balaclava liquidation for charity!

friends,

some of you may have seen the video we made for "back in your head". in the video we had all the amazing and generous audience members wear get-ups that included sweat pants, long sleeve shirts and woolly balaclavas. did i mention it was a sweltering june day and we were in a theatre with no air conditioning!? we truly loved the experience, and were thrilled by the way the video turned out.

we had 140 of the woolly balaclavas left and we have been thinking about what to "do" with them ever since. SO, we've had some commemorative embroidery added (includes the text "back in your head 2007") and all the money raised from the sale will be donated in FULL to Project 10.

project 10 is an organization in montreal quebec. they work to promote the personal, social, sexual and mental well being of LGBTTIIQ youth!! project 10 has all kinds of amazing services like a listening line, a drop-in centre, on-line support, a summer camp, counseling...with all services offered in French and English!!

it is staffed and run by a wonderful, hard working team who, like most all community organizations, struggle to make ends meet.

LGBTTIIQ youth continue to face issues such as suicide, isolation, homelessness and lack of access to the proper resources for health and wellness.

P10 needs your help to ensure that it will be able to continue to offer these support services to LGBTTIIQ youth.

ALL the proceeds we raise from the balaclavas will go to project 10 !

we encourage you to donate more to project 10 through their website or myspace page if you can as every little bit helps.

if you are interested in seeing the balaclavas and purchasing one, you just have to go to...
www.teganandsara.com/fundraiser

we are just taking paypal for now, but if you are desperate to have one and can only pay by money order, email backinyourbalaclava@gmail.com and state your case. but act quick cause these will sell out fast!

one final note: i wanted to say thank you again to everyone who purchased a copy of "the con demos" on our last tour in the USA. we raised 15, 000 dollars for the Music BC Burt Harris Memorial Scholarship. we're so proud of you, your purchases are really helping a lot of people.

thanks for listening and supporting!

be well friends!

wives?
Current mood: awake

Dear Friends

Sometimes I feel like I don't have the words to explain how much you all mean to us or to sum up a tour.

Instead I've asked our band and crew to send photos they took this past month as well as a...tour wrap up paragraph to help explore the different sides of what we do! Their words are just at the bottom of this email.

Before we get to that I just want to give you some ideas of things to look at/ like/ love/ or do in case you want to!

1. Our lovely and talented Cousin Talia who was just on one of our FOREST FONE episodes (available here on our myspace page or at youtube) was elected as a finalist in the Design*Spongescholarship! There were 2000 applicants and they picked 10! Her full name is Talia Bromstad and we think you should check out this link http://designspongeonline.com/ and vote for her!!!! Good luck Talia we love you!

2. My friend Chad who plays in a great band we all love called New Found Glory told me about this site that he started called http://www.moviescenester.com/. I really like it and I think you will too if you love movies! Go check it out!

3. We're doing a bunch of dates with the True Colors tour. Please go check out this link. Sara and I are honored to be apart of the tour and we think you should buy tickets in whatever city you live in and be sure to support the dates (even the ones we're not on) !!!!!! You can get tickets, look at the tour dates and join the mailing list here http://www.truecolorstour.com/.

4. If you haven't...you should. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9PQGbqCpZpI

Now...in the words of the Tegan and Sara band and Crew....final thoughts from the OUT OF HIBERNATION SPRING US 08 T AND S TOUR!

Enjoy my friends. See you soon.
Big Love (Not in the "I have 3 wives way")
Tegan

-----------------------------------------

From Ted Gowans - Guitar/Keyboards/MalletKat

The out of hibernation aka hockey tour was a blast! I've made a top 5 memories list:

5. Hockey Game with fans on a giant wood floor.

We made it out alive and everyone still has most of their teeth and vital organs in tact. Thank you people of Davis california for a memorable game and a great show! I hope you don't feel to bad about the sharks getting destroyed 2nd round......

4. Playing the tonight show W/ Jay Leno

"Somebody call for a macho man?" This was not the statement I expected to hear from Jay Leno the first time I met him, But then again I didn't really ever expect to meet him or be on his show. This day was crazy and awesome in a way I can't describe. It was an honour and a lot of fun.....

3. New York

If Seeing Fuerzabruta and an amazing Dinner with my road family wasn't enough, a sold out show at Terminal 5 tipped this over. This was the best time I've had in New York City yet!

2. Arizona is Burning!

Seriously the show in Arizona was the best! Off the charts! Thank you for being louder than everyone else! was a little disappointed that I wasn't able to show off my black belt ninja skills when a large man jumped on stage and bear hugged Tegan and Sara, but I was happy to see that Doug still has that linebacker in him. (he was drafted by the arizona cardinals the next day.....no joke)

1. Coachella

It's not that Coachella was a better show than all the others, it's just that it was COACHELLA and so many amazing bands played! This was a great memorable day in the desert....

Runners up:
Las Vegas with Death Cab (narrow stairs is amazing to BTW!!!!!!)
Glass House (If only every all ages venue was this cool)
Cincinnati (thanks for the lap steel)
Reno (largest stage in the world.....)

All in all this was a great tour with great people and great fans, I miss it already....

Ted

From Al Hannigan - Guitar Tech and Stage Management

Wikipedia describes touring as follows:

A concert tour is a series of concerts by a musician, musical group, or some number of either in different cities or locations. Especially in the popular music world, such tours can become large-scale enterprises that last for several months or even years, are seen by hundreds of thousands or millions of people, and bring in millions of dollars (or the equivalent) in ticket revenues. Different segments of long-lived concert tours are known as "legs". Concert tours are often administered on the local level by concert promoters or by performing arts presenter

I think they pretty much nailed it.

Digggg a digggg a dig diggg dig a diggg a
dig...yes..it keeps running through my head...the hit
from the late, great Sandstorm!
As I sit here at my kitchen table, my dirty ass
kitchen at that, in sweaty LA, I giggle at the though
of us jumping in the bus after the show at Coachella.
We were in fact, if for one night only, THE party bus!
I feel like we all have a bit part in reinventing the
greatest dance move ever... the simple bob/jump
vertically up and down!
Along with that comes the thought of Sara, Tegan, and
I sitting in the back lounge late one evening watching
Sara's "This American Life" dvd. I may have forgotten
through my daily bitterness, but realized that night,
that no matter where I am or what I have been through,
an old man, a cute old man at that, can make a tear
run from my eye quickly as he simply mutters "I miss
her something terrible" about his deceased wife.
I know what I love most about this "Touring Family" is
that I feel like it is that...a family. I truly feel
comfortable and that is a wonderful feeling! The night
we spent in NYC together was just so...
magical...yep...that is how it felt to me. I loved it!
xo,
Lindsey

--------------------------------------------------------------

From Doug McKendrick - Production Manager and Monitors

There are several things that stick out in my mind about this past tour. The first..... The fans, never before have I seen such an enthusiastic passionate response to a band. The air of excitement both inside, and outside the venue everyday was remarkable. I am very happy to be involved with a project that so many people love. It makes my job that much better to see people enjoy the show so much... and it makes me feel that all the time that I spend away from home is worth it. If I can be involved (even behind the scenes) with making a few thousand people a day happier.
The second was the people I worked with both on the stage and behind the scenes. I thought we had a great team on this tour, and I looked forward to going to work everyday!

Cheers Doug

From Shaun Huberts - Bass

May 13
5:40am. Wake up in confusion, then realization. Newark airport at sunrise.
Breakfast with Al and Chris, or as we like to refer to us, the 'triple H'
club. Huberts, Hibbins, Hannigan...could be a law firm actually?! Plane the
plane. What? You can deplane a plane, but not plane a plane? Ignore grammar,
still going with it. Sleep three of the five or so hours. Land in Seattle.
Sushi for lunch...the better option between sushi or burger king, unless you
consider coffee an option. Plane the second plane. Sleep before takeoff,
awake at touchdown, the epitome of a good flight. Home sweet home. Tour
officially over.

laughing, not sobbing yourself to sleep

hello friends,

its been a while since i wrote (ok only a few weeks ago). but tegan has really been dropping the letters like crazy. so, this week its my turn to pass on some interesting bits of t+s information!

lets see...our best friend/brother joel graves is in the band EVEREST and they are on VAPOR RECORDS and their new album "GHOST NOTES " came out THIS past tuesday and it is an incredible album. we truly hope you will check this band out: here is the link...

http://www.myspace.com/everestlads

joel drove tegan and i around the USA on our first opening tour in 2000. he is a great driver. and he is a good listener and has a warm and genuine nature. i suppose he could be one of those dudes who wrestles competitively on the weekend...but as far as i know...he's as gentle as a kitten and is part of a fantastic band making incredible music. SO CHECK IT OUT!!!

calgary friends and fans...we're coming to play the sled island festival in june! we're thrilled. i miss the bow river, and giant mosquito's, and those silos with cowboy hats painted on them. it seems like every time we perform in calgary i get sacked with home sickness i pretend doesn't exist! it will be nice to be back in our home "town" and we hope you'll come out and check us out!

the "lost forest fones" are up with more coming soon. check those out. we think they are grrreat.

apparently people would like to know if "emy the fish" is alive or dead. sadly, emy THE FISH, is no longer doing laps in the fish bowl. RIP.

emy, the PERSON, is just fine! in fact, her hair looks the best its looked. and she's done incredible new art for death cab for cuties brilliant new album (narrow stairs). she recently bought a bbq. she likes plants and still has a green thumb.

tickets are selling fast for our tour in europe. if you're waiting for pay day...it might be time to hit up the piggy bank...i'm just saying....

this leg of touring is almost done. it has been a collection of amazing moments. we've played a lot less hockey than i imagined pre tour. and i was sad to see both my teams eliminated from the hockey playoffs. (tears) i seriously LOVE watching AN HORSE perform each night. i truly feel like i am watching my favorite band. for 32-35 minutes a night i forget its a show that i am performing at. they are truly inspiring me and i am proud that all of you have been SO NICE AND WARM AND RECEPTIVE to their show each night. i feel like we have some of the most wonderful open minded fans alive. other people say that and they are mistaken. its all of YOU who are truly wonderful. yes i'm gushing. but i just have so much happiness for an horse, and for YOU. except the "you" who occasionally screams/whistles/talks/hollers through the speaking words in between songs. stop it. you make me mental.

OK! time for me to get to bed. i'm reading "fraud" by david rakoff. i've been re reading. he is the funnies human alive. i had to tell ted that i was NOT crying in bed, i was crying from laughter. sometimes that isn't clear. and i don't want people to think i'm sobbing myself to sleep. all nine of us slumber in close quarters, and that sort of...er..."private moment" that happens when you need to have a cry can be pretty awkward. this tour has been full of hysterical laughter on my part. i'm just saying.

be well friends!

sun tanning
Current mood: animated
Category: Parties and Nightlife

Hello Tegan and Sara fans. I hope all of you are doing well. We are in New Mexico today and thankfully the weather is considerably more moderate than it has been for us the past few days. Upon commencing our tour a few weeks ago I thought for sure this would be the easiest, most fun tour ever! And I was correct in thinking so. Even though there were a few days that nearly pushed some of us (not me) over the edge I think overall we're actually having...fun. We always TRY and have fun on the road but when its winter and you have a cold and you get in a bus accident multiple times and hit your face on the wall of your little coffin like bunk there are moments where you're sure you picked the wrong career. But today sitting in this bright orange backstage area here in Albuquerque I think we made the right choice. We played in Phoenix last night and it was insane. Definitely one of the most fun and excitable audiences. And not because I thought they were going to lose their minds New Kids on the Block style and rush the stage but because they clapped over their heads and cheered really loud the whole night and listened to our stories and really seemed to want us to come back for an encore and when that creepy drunk person got on stage and attacked Sara they booed and because deep down inside I think they knew they were the best audience ever and so when they sang along with me in Call it off I almost kind of cried. They sounded really nice. The way singing is supposed to sound.

So here we are at the half way mark and I can't wait to see what happens next. It will be hard to trump the first few weeks. Not many people can say that in 1 week they played street hockey on the largest stage in the world, rocked it with Death Cab for Cutie in Vegas, played Leno and met Mc Dreamy and Stan Sidwell in the process, watched the sun drop below the horizon on stage at Coachella with the Breeders standing side stage (they played an amazing set and on they're on tour right now so GO SEE THEM!!) and finally, danced a jig for Uh Huh her (their new album is coming out august 19), only to end that 2 weeks performing for one of the best audiences we've ever had the pleasure to perform in front of. (thats you phoenix)

Some things of importance to tell you before I take my Unicorn for a ride:

1. Northern State are playing The Plaza Club in Vancouver on May 6th with The Trucks. If you live in Vancouver or in the surrounding area be sure to get tickets ASAP the show as it is a week away and its going to be crazy good! They are one of my favourite bands and the show is going to be so fun! You got to be there!

Tegan at the table

Hey Everyone,

It's day 3 of the tour and we're in Salem, Oregon. I woke up early and listened to a pod-cast of This American Life today and enjoyed the burn in my legs from the lunge and squat competition Shaun and I had yesterday. We've decided that since it's spring, we should be more active than we have been on recent tours. We even bought a ton of street hockey gear and intend on playing everyday. Yesterday we played inside the venue because it was too cold to play outside. I think we're going to be super buff by May 12th!

I signed up for Earth Hour this year, did you? On March 29th between 8-9pm local time millions of people, including me, turned off their lights to show their support for the environment. Highlighting to the local governments in countries all over the world how important it is that we start making an even bigger effort to conserve!

Go to www.earthhour.org to sign up for next year!

If you sign up you get great tips over email about things you can do to save the rest of the year. Like today's tip: Wash your clothes in cold water. 90% of the energy you use to wash your clothes is in the heating of the water! If every house hold in Canada switched to cold to wash their clothes it would be the equivalent of taking 250,000 cars off the road for a year!!!

In other news, I wrote a song for Augusten Burroughs' new book, Wolf at the Table, called His Love. The book comes out on April 29th, 2008 and t is absolutely amazing. Augusten has always written painfully funny and sincere stories and books about his life but this book takes it to a whole new level. I was so impressed I read it twice, in a row!

Augusten sent me the book a few months ago and asked me to write something for the audio version of the book. He was thinking of using the music from the artists who participated to sort of score the reading of the book. I of course thought this was an amazing idea and said yes!!! yes!!! yes!!! I am a huge fan of Augusten and have been reading his books for years.
Usually it takes me a day or two to complete a song but in this case I worked on it for almost 10 days! The lyrics were so difficult for me to write and so I wrote a letter to Augusten asking him questions about the book and his life and in the end I used a lot of the letter to write the actual song. You can go check it out at…

www.augustenburroughs.com

The song and the book mean a lot to me. I think Augusten is truly a wonderful person and an amazing writer. It was easily one of the most important and satisfying challenges of my career. I hope you enjoy it. Go to his website to listen to the song! And then go buy the book!!!!! The audio version with me on it!!

We have European dates and a Canadian date to announce soon. Check back in the next few weeks for more updates!

Also, there is more merchandise coming to the Tegan and Sara store and new pictures of course!!!!

Big hugs,

Your friend,

Tegan
