Squeaky wheel
Current mood: thirsty
Category: Travel and Places
Just a little better. That is the slogan of my bank. Isn't that impressive? I think a better slogan would be 'Meh, bank here or not, we aren't going to sweat it.' What marketing genius came up with 'just a little better?' I think somebody needs a new job.
Hi, I am officially the squeaky wheel because I will be moving offices next week and will no longer have to put up with Captain Wow. Better yet, they have found a way to isolate me so I don't have anybody to complain about, and I get my window view from the 22nd floor back. Muhahahah. A non- manager with a manager office, that's me. Are you surprised? Squeak, squeak. I need a raise. Sqqqqquuuueeeaaakkkk.
There are travel plans in my future people, and this makes me very happy. Vegas, Grand Canyon and the Arizona desert in the middle of the summer- I never claimed to be very bright, but I will be hot and sweaty. I had better get my gambling hands nimble, mama needs a new pair of shoes (or twelve.)
Speaking of shoes, Scudder Cat has chewed through two pair of my flip flops so far this summer. You think I would learn not to leave them in the living room, huh? The way I figure it, the more he eats, the more new shoes I get to buy. Faulty logic? Perhaps.
Rudy has a vet appointment this afternoon for some fear issues he has developed. The vet wants to put him on puppy Prozac, but I am not a fan of medicating for behavior issues. Do any of you know a good behaviorist in the Dallas area? The poor puppy is scared of grass (that's right, grass) trees, cars, dumpsters, and all loud noises. The good news is he still loves people and other animals. What a freakshow, doesn't he know trees are good and people are evil?
I've got to go pretend to work now, so I can be just a little better.

Email conversation with my coworker
Current mood: miserable
Category: Jobs, Work, Careers
Captain Wow, the name dropper, currently has two people in his office from an outside vendor. There are just at 6 million conference rooms in this building at our disposal... but we get to sit here and listen to his endless chatter.
He calls himself the Conservation Cowboy if that gives you any perspective into my rage.
Me: I am going to teach Captain Wow the joys of booking a conference room one of these days
Ryan: Agreed
Ryan: You gotta love the sustainability, waste content, renewable energy, fecal ?????.... matter content, and environmental issues talks
Me: Kill me now.

I like my shanks shiny, thanks....
Current mood: Enraged!
Category: Enraged! Jobs, Work, Careers
I deserve some sort of medal or parade for surviving this craptacular week. That is if I do.
The guy in the cube next to me is about one call filled with excessive name dropping away from getting my foot in his sphincter. The only thing that has stopped me from doing so today is the fact that I am wearing some really fabulous shoes and it would be a shame to sully them. This is the ’corporate environmentalist’ that has Styrofoam cups on his desk, what a shining example of environmental consciousness. One of these days I am going to sit here and count the number of names he drops in one conversation – I bet it is over 10. I try not to listen, but he doesn’t know the meaning of ’inside voice.’ Pandora.com isn’t working today so I am forced to listen to his mind numbing drivel. Bah!!!
I can’t work under these conditions. My Director has listened to me complain about having to mix with the general population the few weeks that I have been up here, and has offered to let me move back to my old abode, but I feel bad about moving just because I can’t play well with others. I might have to take her up on it soon though. Squeaky wheel and all….
If you see a brief item on the news about an incident at Stinkos headquarters in Dallas, please be prepared to start baking those goodies with shanks in them for me. I don’t think I would do well in jail.

Another day, another blog
Current mood: blank
Category: Blogging
That's right, I'm back to talk about grommets again, because once isn't enough. There is a publication called The Grommet Press, who knew there is a missing level in Dante's Inferno and it goes by the name of Grommet Press? Maybe it is included in the Fraudulent and the Treacherous circles?
I can't complain really (but yet here I am doing so... hmmmm) because I still can find time to slip out of the office in the middle of the day to take the dogs to the park and run over to the mall (more like a slow saunter truth be told, why rush these things?)
The CFO has discovered that I am now sitting on her floor again, she asked me how I am liking it up here and I told her I miss my window office and the lack of sunlight is draining the life out of me, think that was the answer she was expecting?
I failed to mention to the CFO that I also now live among a den of thieves, I have been up here two weeks and my in and out trays are missing (how lame is that?) My scissors are the latest victim of thievery, who steals scissors? I have had those scissors since I started here back in '04! Granted I don't have much use for them beyond cutting a stray thread off of my clothes here and there, but they were mine and when I wanted to cut out a coupon yesterday they weren't there! Thieves I tell you! Hopper says I should just give in and become one of them, stealing my way up and down the hallway, meh, maybe I will give it a try next week
We are waiting to hear back on our application for a new apartment because moving is fun! One day I will share with you my thoughts on leasing agents and how they are the spawn of the devil. That's all I've got, have a good weekend!

Grommets for everyone!
Category: Jobs, Work, Careers
A couple of things that I think are super cool and everybody should check out:
1. The new video on my profile because it really rocks (the lovers, the dreamers and meeeeeeeee)
2. He Was A Quiet Man – Watch it and check back in with me because I need somebody to discuss my theory on Vanessa with. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0760311/
Crap, I thought I had more than two things! I guess I did say a couple didn't I? Two is a couple.
Worst blog ever!
I have a new job and they expect me to work! Can you imagine? The horror!
Actually it isn't bad – don't get me wrong, I work a lot of hours and there is 'the day of which we do not speak' where I had meetings scheduled from 9-5 with no breaks scheduled for such things as eating and going to the rest room, but who needs to do those things anyway? Wimps, that's who! Not we fancy Pricing people! We have very important things to do like deciding if people want their banners to have grommets on them or not (they do apparently, now I just need to know what a grommet is.) Learning is fun (or mind numbing, either way!)
The dogs are good, the cat is good. Rudy has to start going to doggie day care because he ate my couch and I only have so many of those (well one spare couch to be exact.) It has been raining so the dog park has been closed and he decided to take his aggression over being cooped up for so long out on my lovely couch. I asked him how he was planning on earning enough money to replace the couch and he wagged his little nubbin of a tail at me, I decided it is going to take a whole lot of tail shaking to make that much money, and quite frankly I just don't think he has it in him.
Look at that, another meeting reminder just popped up, imagine that. I've got to go research some grommets!

Anybody in the market for a fish tank?
Current mood: chipper

Check out my listing
In other news... I will finally be doing something cool at work. I could not BE MORE EXCITED!!! That's right, it is three exclamation points worthy! There will be work- glorious work! Work the likes of which I haven't seen since I have been with this company (three years.) It should be fun, and now I can put something on my resume besides 'spent copious amounts of time on CraigsList.'

RIP Samir
Current mood: sad
Category: Life
I got in to work this morning to find Samir had died overnight.
The poor little guy, I am going to miss calling out his name as I entered my cube every morning, tapping the glass and pissing him off.

Tis the season
Current mood: thankful
Category: Life
Today there was an article in my local newspaper that told the plight of the local food banks that are hurting this season due to the rise in retail food prices. The article highlighted how the cost of a jar of peanut butter from food brokers (where a food bank turns to when the donations aren't enough) went from 81 cents to 94 cents in a six month timeframe.
The US Department of Agriculture has decreased the amount of food distributed to regional food banks over the last few years, and this is putting enormous pressure on the banks to rely heavily on the kindness of strangers (that's us my friends) to make up the difference.
Of course I know that it is important to give year round, but this time of year really pulls at my heart strings. Food is the most basic necessity in our lives, and there are scores and scores of people who will go home tonight and open their pantry to find nothing. There is an empty donation box in the lobby of my work building right now- just as empty as those pantries in the homes of the thousands of Texans who will not eat tonight.
Texas has the third in the nation with the highest number of families who are hungry. I found a statistic online that said that the number of people that the North Texas Food Bank serves monthly could fill the AAC five times to capacity! I can't even wrap my mind around that.
So next time you run into the store and pick up a quick bite for dinner, remember these statistics and throw a couple of extra items into your cart. Also keep in mind that many stores run specials this time of year that will give you a free turkey when you make a minimum purchase. Imagine what that would mean to a family in need this season! Let's fill those boxes up this year!
(PS – every dollar that a food bank receives they can turn into $10 worth of food through wholesale agreements and fuel cost savings!)

Summer (sort of) vacation
Current mood: anxious
Category: Travel and Places
I will be leaving for my 5 day trip to Cancun on Sunday morning (8 am flight, kill me now!)
I am looking forward to catching up on my sleep and reading (I am taking 4 books) and generally being lazy. Last year I took my daily nap in the room (or once or twice on the beach) and then ordered my daily dose of cheesecake from room service. This plan worked for me, so I think I will stick to it!
We got smart this year and are bringing our own insulated cups so we don't look like lushes ordering our drinks two at a time! Hey, to our credit they serve drinks in really tiny cups!
Wish us luck with the hurricane and tropical storm that are brewing down south- it looks like we will be okay, but who knows how it will all turn out.
Have a good week.
