The New Balance 992's are the best shoes in the world. Just purchased a new pair yesterday. I feel like I am walking on sunshine. Yeah... I went there.
Anyway. I don't blog like I did last year. I am not finding enough time. I've been filling up my non-work hours with songwriting and painting and family; family being the more important. Did I use the ";" correctly there?
Today is a cleaning day and then I want to find time to finally watch "No Country for Old Men." I've had it for like two weeks now. Good thing Netflix doesn't have late fees. Watched "Charlie Wilson's War" last night. Michelle liked it. I did too. Good movie for the Andrade clan. Camden wasn't allowed to watch. She didn't care.
The Oscars were once a big deal to me. I love movies but I have moved away from following the hype. I didn't even realize today is Oscar day (is it?). I don't think I can name the movies are that up for Best Picture. I could guess. Daniel Day-Lewis should take it all! He has a nomination?
Pop culture in general is a big hobby of mine but it is getting so hard to following. A wife, a career, a kid... I can't really keep up. And I work in the music industry. Well, not really the MUSIC INDUSTRY in the traditional understanding. Yeah I work with music and I work with writers and songs and it all comes together with marketing but it is worship music to the church and not Amy Winehouse checking in and out of rehab.
My cousin lives in LA and, I guess, in some way I feel a little bit of a connection to the city with family out there. So when I see his pictures in and out of Hollywood, I am reminded of my days of as a pop culture junkie. I remember there were a few years when I knew all the nominations and had seen most of the movies. Even a lot of the documentaries and foreign films.
The last movie I saw was The Land Before Time yesterday morning with my two year. I started crying a few tears. The emotion of Little Foot and friends finding the Great Valley was just overwhelming. It's actually is a great movie. Yeah... I am also wearing a pink shirt today.
Just want to get this out there. Enjoy the Oscars.
Not that is really matters. Have I have decided to list my favorite music released this year. I know it isn't December yet. I am sure some are "critics picks" in major publications but that isn't the reasoning behind my selections. These are the sonic waves that have seen the most play from me. Please feel free to chastise me if you want. I can take it. I am a big boy.

My wife is gone this weekend. Gone down to Athens, GA for a wild weekend with two of her sisters. They are going to be watching the Auburn/Georgia game from a bar in Athens with their cousin, who is a student at the University of GA. Wild wild wild... Yeah. I told her to say hi to Michael Stipe for me, if he still lives in Athens, GA, and kick it at the 40 Watt.
So this leaves me alone for the weekend with Camden. MY GOODNES!!! It is going to be ice cream and lollipops all weekend because Camden holds Daddy in her little hand. Not really but we'll probably go to the zoo if it isn't to cold.
The first time I went Athens was with Mike Langford (sorry if I misspelled your name) to see Sunny Day Real Estate. Mike was under 21 and tried to buy a beer and they shut him down. I bought him a PBR (I think it was PBR). It was good. I remember Sunny Day being great and then seeing Jeremy Enigk on a cell phone outside the club by the tour buses. I wanted to get a picture. I was such a fan.
So our dishwasher is broken which completely sucks. All the dishes have to be washed by hand which takes more time and so they have staked up. It is like the Rocky Mountain Range of dishes. Good thing our dishwasher is covered by our home warranty because I am not in the mood to purchase a new washer or go completely washer-less.
The Office. I am a freak for it. Well, I actually might not be a freak. I mean I have never logged onto Dwight's blog (though I have thought multiple times about it like two junior high debate students). Susan, who is one the Rocketown co-workers with me (there is currently three of us), mentioned an The Office convention was happening soon. I filed that in the back of my mind. I was reminded about it this morning when I tuned into the Today Show. Oh, I do wish was going!
Glad to see South Florida go down on Thursday night! Here are some of my picks for Saturday.
1. OU over ISU 2. Tennessee over Alabama (please!)... sorry Tide fans 3. Florida over Kentucky 4. USC over Notre Dame (Green jerseys? Good luck guys! I actually hope you win.) 5. Missouri over Texas Tech 7. Colorado over Kansas... the Jayhawk luck runs out. 8. and... LSU over Auburn, but not by much. I am thinking OT.
So this is random. I played my senior year for the Bulldogs of Edmond, OK. I don't know if they actually won or lost or when this game was but I found the video below. Bulldogs are in maroon and white.
I think this is my third blog of the week. I'm on fire! No... that was stupid. I have been efficient with my time though. This is my lunch break now. No MySpace/Facebook/ESPN.com surfing during working hours.
Kings of Leon are playing tonight in Nashville. I had an outside chance to go but that fell apart. I actually didn't want to go so I am not sad. I actually still don't want to go. The Office is on tonight. I have to admit that I didn't really get the new record until yesterday when one of the song came on my Pandora mix. Not that I didn't like the songs or the band, in fact loved the last record... I just wasn't really into it as much as some of my friends. So I listened twice at work and then put it on the shelf. I think it was overhyped to me and overhyping is never a good thing. Which is something I have to be careful not to do when I talk to my friends because I know I overhype stuff all the time.
October is ending and I need to start thinking about my favorite records of the year. I am not sure yet.
Back to work...

I was 15 when I first heard "Good." I loved it then. I still do. A great one hit wonder. It came at just the perfect time to be added to my life's soundtrack. I was finishing up my freshman of high school. I was learning to drive. I smoked my first cigarette then (no, I have never been a smoker). Summer break was coming and there wasn't much for me to do in Edmond, OK but workout for the upcoming football season. I repeated the song many times.
I know I purchased Better Than Ezra's album Deluxe from a CD club. I was trying to scam out 10 CDs for only one cent plus shipping. I don't remember if I fulfilled my obligation by purchasing one CD every month for a year or so... I probably did. I also remember purchasing the greatest hits of Kansas and not really being into it. I sold it to the local CD Trader. I was never a good criminal. As for Better Than Ezra, I do remember that I sold (or traded) my copy of Deluxe to Nashville's CD Warehouse on 21st Ave. And even though I still love the song "Good", I don't regret departing with the album. The album is just OK at best. I think... maybe I need to listen to it again.
The only reason I am even writing about the band now is because an artist I work with will be opening for them this weekend which sparked my memory and had me search the video on You Tube and, funny, I still think the drummer looks cool rocking out. (Ok, now that I think of it, they probably had two other radio hits.) As I said to my boss today, how many people do you know that say "OMG! Better Than Ezra is my favorite band!" or "Dude, our biggest influences are the Beatles, U2 and Better Than Ezra!" You just don't hear that. I didn't even know the band was still together until they booked a show with my artist.
So I googled them today and found more than I expected on Wikipedia. Did I miss something? Were they bigger than I remember? I do remember seeing a greatest hits record from them a few years ago and thinking why. I asked my intern today if he knew the band (my intern is 21) and he said he had heard of them but when I played him "Good" he couldn't place it. He would have been 9, or so, when the song was a hit.
Anyways... It doesn't really matter. Just sharing a memory. You'll notice it isn't what I am listening to at the moment.

Jimmy Eat World
Release date: 16 October, 2007
I had some "me" time tonight after Camden went to bed. It was good. Did some writing and guitar playing and music listening. Michelle went with her sister, Laura, to some type of fashion show. She won a shopping spree to Bullfrogs and Butterfliesfor Camden through an auction. Maybe it was silent and maybe it was not. Since I wasn't there I will never know. What I do know is that while drinking tea I listened to Josh Garrels' Over Oceans and I realized I am semi-obsessed with the record.
All in all, the weekend was great. Great weather in Nashville even though it is October and it feels like May. Fall is my favorite season in Nashville but it has yet to fully reveal itself.
Friday night I discovered that I am a horrible liar while playing the game Balderdash. There was no fooling with my fibs, not even one person. Of course, I have never really been a good liar. I just smile too much.
Saturday was Oktoberfest in Germantown. Completely worth it just to be outside though the beer and sauerkraut were also delightful! Camden also rode a pony named Peanut which was thrilling to all.It was our first time in Germantown and I have say we found it charming. It is always nice to discover something new about your city. Who knows? Maybe one day Michelle and I will purchase one of the historic houses and make sauerkraut every weekend.
And for college football... I had just predicted Cal vs LSU for the championship to Strouty on Friday. Oh well! What if South Florida wins the whole thing? Fine with me as long as they don't win it against the Sooners. Still, as the BCS poll stands at this moment, Ohio State vs South Florida doesn't really excite me.
I had forgotten how much I loved this song back in the day until it pop up on my playlist a few days ago. I have always been a big fan of Green Day. There was a time, during high school and a little into college, when I would have denied that. I was kind of a music snob then or maybe I just wanted to be. Now I don't really care because I have realized I'll never be cool... which makes me kind of cool. Right? Oh well... I'll go back to listening to Garth Brooks now and watch my copy of The Coal Miner's Daughter on VHS.
