HBO's "Addiction" DVD set arrives
Current mood: anxious
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

It finally arrived for me in The ARID Site's PO Box. After nearly a month of waiting this 4-DVD set is now on my desk (I'm betting that many Buchmanites laid their $30 down for this). And, frankly, I thought it would be tough to debunk.

What helps is that the set comes with a 12-page guide with all of the usual talking points of the polycarbonate-entombed propaganda. And if anyone has read one of my Articles y'all know how I love debunking stuff point-by-point.

I'll just throw out an assumption about this set: I sincerely doubt that any person who quit on their own has been interviewed. Instead I'll probably witness a bunch of so-called "experts" who can talk a good game with many professional credientials after their names. Yet, in the end, none will know dick about how to end an addiction once and for all. The main talking point is to claim that addiction is a "brain disease", where indoctrination into a pro-addiction religious cult is the "treatment" for it. Which, of course, is the Big Lie.

The truth is that if anyone is having a problem with ANY recreational drug use or compulsive behavior they can simply reduce their consummation of that pleasurable vice or just flat out quit! That's NOT a treatment but a simple choice available to every addicted individual at NO COST at all. Right here. Right now. Anyone can solve and end their problem on their own.

After all, what do I know? I'm only a Ph.D. (Phormer Drunk) who quit on my own and also a dissatisfied former customer of addiction "services". The only things the "experts" know is just the same procrastination nonsense of those who keep coming back like good little Groupers. They will never know of the people who leave and break free of the twin bondage of addiction and "recovery".

And now I have the 4-disc set waiting for me to witness the carnage of the current pro-addiction system yet again. The HBO documentary "Rehab" was bad enough (I digitized the VHS videotape on which I recorded that propaganda film). Now here's 4-DVD's worth of more crap.

And, if you are interested in collecting this kind of propaganda, you can go to the HBO Store and buy the DVD set. When you checkout use the promotion code WELCOME10 to save 10% off the order.

Or, I'm sure you'll eventually find it on a P2P network for free and deny HBO/NIDA/NIAAA some money by downloading it... (I don't condone that but I'm open-minded enough to acknowledge that it could happen) ;->

I'll write an Article debunking it in about a week or so.

Recovery for the Fearful
Current mood: contemplative

Re: Faye's comment, "Recovery for the fearful and those too afraid to look within themselves."

Ironically, that one statement sums up exactly what A.A. is. Me, I wanted to learn how to quit and realized that it was up to me to decide whether to procrastinate on that decision to drink again or to quit.

The answer was within me all along. And A.A. gave more than enough excuses to keep dragging my feet regarding that decision. I may have lost "friends" in A.A. but I've found more genuine people in the outside world who can accept a teetotaler, such as myself, warts and all. And, surprise surprise, they're regular human beings just like me! And I like regular. It's normal, that's why. :-)

A.A. wishes that those who quit were isolated and alone simply because A.A. True Believers can't handle that growling appetite when they're away from their precious little groups or away from each other. They'd rather shun than actually help people who want to learn how to quit but without that conditional "sobriety" gobbledygook of a dogma. A.A. breeds further dependency and leads not to individual independence and freedom.

I've learned from my own past mistakes. To prove that, I simply neither drink now nor in the future. It simply would be wrong if I drank again. So I'll choose good and be a good regular ol' person. I'l always be ready with the powder dry, ready for the challenges of life itself.

A.A. simply pathologizes that very human spirit. It labels anyone who dares contradict A.A.'s dogma as being sick, diseased and in denial about that. Sounds like they are truly the ones who ENVY (YES, one of the Seven Deadlies) and know not what freedom truly is.

No meetings, no dogma. I do what I want with a clear mind and conscience at ALL times.

Limitations of running a specialized site (freeform rant):
Current mood: amused

Obviously, my interests range far beyond the meager confines of speading the anti-addiction Good News to the world. For example, I've amassed a collection of recordings from meetings which I have personally infiltrated. While the number is quite impressive it's the time in cleaning up the audio for the best clarity for presentation that I really don't have much time for (there's just so many...and I may be filesharing them right now as you read this).

In the meantime, I've become quite adept at using off-the-shelf hardware and inexpensive-to-free software to further develop my own small audio mastering and engineering hobby. And I'd like to create a sister anti-addiction site that can be readily harnessed by those who want to get the most from their limited resources.

In other words, a DIY resource for people who want to kick some Buchmanite ass on their own. And, dare I say, there's nothing like catching these poor schmucks off guard as they worship at the altar of Bill W.

Speaking of which, sometimes I get IMs which are wacky in response to some things I have written. I sometimes get spam from those who lack the good sense of netiquette to not send any to begin with and arrogant not to apologize for their faux pas (calling Melanie Solomon).

From the hit & run file:

hpotter_junkie (5:02:34 PM): ok, got your email , i'll remember to refrain from forwarding things to you, also faith is all about believing in something you can't see. that's my choice. i can't help you with yours
Yahoo! Messenger: hpotter_junkie has logged out. (3/21/2007 5:02 PM)
Here's a person who would rather forward HTMLized spam from unknown sources and wonders why someone would take offense when forwarded further. In regards to such renegade permissiveness I'm very blunt. Such behavior (including widespread use of Windoze) is the reason why most newbies' computers are infected with various malware.

Also, I note the arrogance seething within concerning their precious "faith". Last time I checked faith is nothing more than confidence. Couple that with belief in the nonexistent and unproven and you have a perfect mix for delusion.

In other words, shatter the illusion that comprises their delusion and shatter their faith. A crushed psyche, realizing that they've been hoodwinked, bamboozled and hung out to dry is not a pretty sight to witness (I've been to recovery cult groups where that is the norm and, unfortunately, further binge drinking/drugging and suicides are also the norm in light of that). However, if the person knows something is definitely wrong then they can literally break out of that mental straitjacket of social cultism.

It's not that I need help differentiating fact from fiction or, if you will, reality from fantasy. My concern is raised when people who claim to have "faith" can't neither explain nor defend theirs. So certainly it wouldn't be me having a lack of faith. More likely it's the accuser who lacks it to back up their own assertions.

Psychological projection, perhaps?

Which reminds me of the disease mythology of addiction. Such nonsense is nothing more that the very same article of faith devoid of any evidence proving its existence. Even if someone posted pages upon pages of scholarly evidence of where that mishappen mythology came from it still wouldn't shake the True Believers free from the deception. And no matter how many followers believe such dogma to be true DOES NOT make it true (the bandwagon fallacy). Only when such assertions are challenged can truth be divined and a better understanding of reality is realized.

It makes as much sense as a bunch of True Believers stating that 2+2=5 and behaving rather arrogantly and dismissive of anyone who dare to challenge such a falsehood. After all, questioning helps to gain a better understanding of the topic at hand. It's not the people who can add who have a problem. It's the people who can't perform simple addition, much less explain the wacky mechanics behind what they assume to be the One True Math who have a big problem.

They are hooked to their dogma. Without it they fear that their life afterwards will mean nothing or just flat out suck, just as a drunk needs a drink or a junkie needs another fix. But ONLY when that person harbors doubt about the dogma, whether to continue believeing within it or not, is the ONLY sign (ambivalence) that they are addicted to it.

After all, doubt in the dogma at hand can literally set peoples' minds free. It's the cult of True Believers' job to steer that doubt AWAY from the dogma and towards the person who harbors it. And it should come as no surprise that such a technique has been honed in A.A. to malicious perfection.

In other words, the dogma is perfect since it's said by the True Believers that it's divinely inspired (appeal to belief fallacy). It's the humans who are not and must be rid of such questioning behavior on their part. It isn't honorable in the eyes of the deity du jour (God, William Griffith Wilson, L. Ron Hubbard, Charles Manson, etc.).

Anyhow, just for the sake of snarkiness, here is the line of inquiry that hpotter_junkie failed to respond to ("TRUST IN THE LORD ALWAYS"):

"Oh, but which one? And why the blind obedience? ;->"

Simple questions. I doubt that I'll get a straight answer one way or another. After all, I've seen another altar and it sure isn't Christian. I have in my possession a copy of their Bible and they treat the author of that Bible, William Griffith Wilson, as the second coming of Christ.

And thus, the limitations imposed upon myself as I run an authentic anti-addiction website. So, of course, this blog will be looser in content as my awareness pierces through the faulty armor of other peoples' ignorance.

Exposing the inhuman.
Current mood: contemplative
Category: News and Politics

The more that I move further away from the complete nonsense of the RGM/ATI/SCAAAM the more I can see how the entire charade is based upon instilling further dependencies. And, the more one is dependent upon the dogma at large, the more one is quite defensive of it.

But it all really comes to a head when one faces down a Buchmanite face-to-face. And I don't mean any mere faceless exchange of ASCII plaintext. I'm talking about infiltrating "the rooms" and asking one of these oldtimers "in Recovery" that Big Question while facing them down eye-to-eye:

Considering all of the bad consequences that you have endured by your own consumption of alcohol, are you going to ever drink again in this lifetime or never again?

That's when I can see the fear in their eyes. It's been said by people in the know that the eyes are the windows into one's soul. It's so true as one can literally read the sheer panic of someone who tries to answer that Big Question.

Sometimes it gets worse than that. I've had the experience of having a Buchmanite who with 26 years of Time and working as a CAC for a DUI offenders' program literally turn into something not human. His face literally turned the reddest color of red, his eyes and the veins in his neck and forehead bulged out. He wound up going from someone who appeared to be in full command of his mental faculties during his indoctrination sessions to something very angry and ugly. And, if given the opportunity, a propensity towards further violent reaction.

Neither could answer that Big Question in a satisfactory manner. Both were extremely evasive and obviously uncomfortable being held accountable for their own actions. They can't answer "I'll NEVER drink again" simply because that self-doubt has been throughly brainwashed into them. Likewise, if surrounded by their peers, they'll do their part to talk them out of that decision. Thus, decisiveness is pathologized.

Because of the politically-correct Big Lie within AAmerican culture, that anyone who has a problem with any recreational drug (that includes alcohol) needs a Good Program in order to stay off of that junk, further dependency develops. ALL of the time those very same programs are staffed by the same True Believers who will go all pear-shaped when presented with the Big Question.

To tell people who want to learn how to quit that they can just quit is considered blasphemy in light of all of that nonsense. Stating that Big Question is akin to bringing someone down back to Earth as someone wielding a chainsaw when dealing with infantile treehuggers stuck up in trees.

It's just a simple way of bringing extremists down, one way or the other. Expose that wicked side of their personality and one can see quite clearly that NONE of them are to be trusted regarding matters of human life and liberty itself.

[NOTE: For the record, I'm not against the environment but I can't resist being as un-PC and blunt as possible in regards to the nonsense of extremism inany of its forms. If pollution were good we'd all be sipping on vats of it by now...or are we soaking in it already? I'm just against its wacky fringe element that claims to be against industry and globalism yet embraces technology such as lead-laden computers and quickly-obsolete cell phones. I love nature and would not like to see it destroyed either. But please don't play the role of a soon-to-be martyred fundamentalist wackaloon. It makes y'all look like a silly bunch of eco-terroristas. You aren't Che Guevara so try passing along some fully-researched reason instead. You'll appear as a mature and reasonable adult and win far more respect. Maybe you'll create positive change, too. --db]

MySpace new "friend" spam.
Current mood: annoyed
Category: MySpace

Is it just a fluke or do people have way too much time on their hands requesting to be a "friend" but only offering just more of the same dating PR0N and "work-at-home" spam?

I do have a day job and I don't "need any". But still I get plenty of "friends" who aren't looking for friendship or any form of solidarity against Buchmanism and its groupies. All they want is yet another link. Too bad. Y' ain't gettin' any here. More than likely, such fools will just wind up having their profile screened, blocked and denied.

But hey! Just like any addiction, they could stop wasting their time and just KNOCK IT OFF! Unfortunately, on MySpace, most people won't issue a block and deny. In an effort to prove how "popular" they are most will just allow such "friends" to accumulate as just more notches.

Folks, there's quality and there's quantity and you just can't have both. You can have a quantity of "friends" but who are nothing more than very seedy individuals who are just looking for MySpace hits. Or, you can perform some actual screening by examining the supplicants' profiles and go from there.

It takes time and will result in a very short MySpace friend list but you know they're quality intelligent friends. It also avoids the big problem of "guilt by association": You are who you hang around with or, in this case, consider friends.

And yes, it is worth the time and effort. I've seen far too many "pimped" and poorly-formatted MySpace profiles that only offer a whole lot of flash but nothing really substantial in thought-provoking material (mainly the usual spam). And if I like your profile I may just throw a friend request your way.

Why "The ARID Space" instead of "The ARID Site on MySpace"?
Current mood: amused

Because I already run The ARID Site, that's why. Plus, it fits the MySpace namespace.

Okay. If you must know, I'm planning on cashing in to the highest bidder and sell off variations of the name like a franchise to certain investors (no Buchmanites or SCAAAMers). I already have The ARID Blog (since that's obviously what you're reading right now). There's no such thing as The ARID OS...unless I'm willing to take the time and trouble of repackaging a Ubuntu distro of Linux. The ARID Bar & Grille is definitely out of the question because 1) the acronym, when expanded, would render the whole thing linguistically ungainly and 2) I don't think the idea of a straight-edge "dry" watering hole would be viable in the free marketplace.

Anyhow, just some humor to leaven the rather serious proceedings as of late.

"Punk" Recovery?
Current mood: irate

I must really be oldskool (or just old). I mean, I remember the DIY ethic of punk subculture. Y'know? Do It Yourself? It was a key part of the subculture which opened the door to far more creative uses of freedom of expression since the end of the sixties and very early seventies (until the people became cokin' disco ducks and yuppie New Age [rhymes with ducks]).

Now there's Punk Friends In Recovery. As in, the DIY ethic of just quitting for good on your own is verbotten within it. So how "punk" can that be? Or is it just punk-assed? What's so DIY about that when all worship the same wasted writings o' Wilson?

As for how I learned of the site I found it listed as a Friend on one of those other sites that claim to be against A.A. and Buchmanism. Go figure!

"Why can't they just quit?"
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

To answer yet another HBO "Addiction" ad's question (I've provided a link to HBO's crap elsewhere)...

They choose not to quit because their vice is pleasurable! Unfortunately, the United States' wonderful pro-addiction system of front groups for Buchmanism, brainwashed cult religo-nut degenerates (who keep coming back again...and again) and dumbass "professionals" who, despite the evidence, would go as far as to lie about their uncle or any other family member, give more than enough excuses in the name of Science and Religion to the currently addicted to do it again...and again. They continue their vice instead of to KNOCK IT OFF!

But then, none of these "experts" knows what quitting is. Certainly the RGM/ATI has the excuse of being an entrenched pro-addiction cult chock full o' lies for the time being (I'm tempted to launch another salvo against the SCAAAM for capitulating too damn many times to the point that it resembles a Stepper-based apologetics cult).

I really, really need to post some E-mail on my website. Maybe over the weekend (I have a day job, thank you very much)... ;->

HBO "Addiction" Redux
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

I've posted a recent Article that was originally going to be a blog post. However, the more I thought about it the more I wrote. It was then  I realized that it's better as its own HTML web page:

"There Is No Gene"

If more people thought about the nonsense spewed by the RGM/ATI (and accepted as fact by the SCAAAM) and realized that it was ALL lies, actual lives and money can be saved.

HBO's "Addiction"
Current mood: annoyed
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

What pro-addiction nonsense is this?

I found this link via one of those banner ads that are presented to pay the bills for  The ARID Site's webspace (for the time being). Since it's sponsored by A.A.'s front groups (in this case, one of them is the NIAAA) then you know that there will be no mention on how people naturally quit without rehabs, shrinks, counseling, cult religion, sponsors or any of that recovery group movement or addiction treatment dogma.

Besides, since I quit smoking years ago without anyone's help then I know more than ALL of those idiots about how to break free of addiction. Anyone can read the truth here or to get mired within The Downward Spiral of the know-nothings.

I may just have to buy the DVDs to add to my growing collection of pro-addiction nonsense. I enjoy debunking this kind of crap.
