Lousiana Loses Again
Category: Religion and Philosophy
Louisiana gov. signs controversial education bill .. yep, that's the previously mentioned Bobby Jindal, the governor who hallucinates demons. The Christian supremacists just love him.

Religious Humor
Category: Religion and Philosophy
The best God joke ever - ...more like a short collection of jokes. This one made me laugh:
A Mormon told me that they don't drink coffee. I said, "A cup of coffee every day gives you wonderful benefits." He said, "Like what?" I said, "Well, it keeps you from being Mormon ..."
.. but the one about denominations was spot-on.

Repudiation of The Pharisees
Pastor Who Officiated at Jenna Bush Wedding Launches Pro-Obama Website
The Rev. Kirbyjon Caldwell, leader of the largest Methodist congregation in the country, launched a website yesterday titled "James Dobson Does Not Speak For Me."
Not that Obama is any prize but I'm posting this because it shows there is finally a push-back by people who actually believe in Christian principles against the neo-fascist Christian supremacists. It's about &&($& time!

Teaching Creationism as "Controversy"
Category: Religion and Philosophy
If You Think Creationism is Bad, Just Wait till You See What's Next ...The article is short but makes an appropriate point. Quote from this piece:
We don't teach Chinese in Spanish class because, although Chinese is great and kids should be able to learn it if they want, Chinese is not Spanish. Creationism posits that there are supernatural, unexplainable causes for things and that's the exact opposite of the scientific method. Some commenters need to be enlightened - it appears that they didn't really the article they are criticizing. Feel free to help them.

Bushwhacking Florida
Category: Religion and Philosophy
Jeb Bush And His Cronies Have Big Plans for Govt.-Funded Religious Schools in Florida
I pity you if you live in Florida. If former Gov. Jeb Bush and his allies have their way, religious schools will soon be eligible for massive new streams of public funding, courtesy of the state’s taxpayers. Bush has engineered onto the November ballot two initiatives that would eliminate the state constitution’s strict church-state separation provisions, mandate funding of religion and water down language requiring a quality public school system. This would also secure Florida's reputation as the worst education system in America, finally beating out rivals Texas and Kansas.

Native Thief
Nativity booster accused of boosting claim
Some said the Rev. Tim Bumgardner walked with the righteous when, nearly single-handedly, he forced the village of Wellington to add a nativity scene to its 2005 holiday display. But while his Jesus demands meaningless symbolism apparently he isn't too concerned with stealing.

The Child Killer - The Part of the Story You Won’t See
Category: Religion and Philosophy
Police identify man who beat toddler.. it was a grizzly tale of a crazy man beating a toddler until police had to shoot him. That part of the story has been everywhere. Not part of the mainstream media story....
He ... talked calmly of the boy being filled with "demons." Yes, that's right, the child killer was a religious fanatic. He killed the toddler because God told him that the child was demon possessed.
Some people want religious fanatics to run America. What do you think?

God’s Gas
Category: Religion and Philosophy
A solemn event... true believers, hardcore Christians gather in their prayer circle, and call upon the limitless powers of God for a great miracle. Today they gather to pray for... wait for it... . wait... ... lower gas prices -. Activists Keep the Faith, if Not Their Money . Sure, why not? God's will be done!
Here's the thing; gas prices WILL come down a bit - eventually. And no matter when that finally happens, these people can claim that God did it. Isn't that the way it always works? As it has been noted: "If you pray for rain long enough, it eventually does fall. If you pray for floodwaters to abate, they eventually do. The same happens in the absence of prayers."
*** So, you are interested in writing about subjects such as rational thinking, eh? Well, maybe you can get some beer money for it: $20 payment for articles about skepticism and critical thinking. Or you can just read the articles. At least it gives you something to do in your spare time.
