Sad News - Lee Hazlewood passes
Current mood: indescribable
Lee Hazelwood: 1929-2007 by Staff | 08.06.2007
Lee Hazlewood has died at the age of 78 after a three year struggle with renal cancer. A songwriter, singer, and producer for over 40 years, Hazlewood was most famous for writing Nancy Sinatra's 1966 hit "These Boots Are Made For Walking." The pair continued to work together for many years creating such hits as "Some Velvet Morning." Hazelwood was discovered by a new generation of fans after his solo albums were reissued by Sonic Youth's Steve Shelley in the '90s. Hazlewood's influence even extended to Phil Spector who visited his studio in the 1950's to study his taping techniques. The son of an oil man, Hazlewood was born in Mannford, Oklahoma in 1929 and spent his teenage years in Port Neches, Texas. Hazlewood enrolled at SMU in Dallas, planning to study medicine but was drafted into the Army for the Korean War. Diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2005, Hazlewood gave away his gold and platinum discs to friends outside the music industry and released his final album, Cake Or Death, in 2006. Hazlewood's family have asked that people wishing to honor his memory make donations to The Salvation Army.

Inca Babies
For whatever reason, MYSPACE is having technical difficulties with my music. I had to reupload the Inca Babies track, so that bulletin was a bit premature. Coming soon though....

nick the stripper video pt 2
I also recommend resizing the screen on PUTFILE to 320 for the best resolution. It's a good quality file!

Nick The Stripper video
I've been trying to pull videos off of the PLEASURE HEADS MUST BURN dvd, but I just can't seem to get it right. I'll keep at it, but in the meantime, here's a link to watch the NICK THE STRIPPER video. Found this on the excellent ROWLAND S HOWARD tribute site via Beretta Minx. They have some more videos up there, including a reunion with Nick and Rowland doing WILD WORLD and DEAD JOE!!! Welcome to the car crash....go to www.burning-heart.net for more.

this is from the NME article, I haven't had a free moment to scan properly, so I did what I could for the time being. Still worth a glance. Nice pic.

Gun Club fans
Current mood: jacked up!
I'm all fucked up today after going to the dentist for the third time in two weeks. Damn it sucks, I have shooting pain going from my back molar all the way up behind my eyeball and throughout my jaw. Pass the pharmaceuticals!!! Enough of my bellyaching - for those of you who are Gun Club fans, of which I count myself, apparently someone is working on a documentary on Jeffrey Lee Pierce and the Gun Club. Amazing band - if you don't already own them, buy in this order: 1) THE FIRE OF LOVE 2) DEATH PARTY ep 3) LAS VEGAS STORY 4) the 2CD b-sides collection on Sympathy For The Record Industry - can't remember the name of it at the moment... Anyway, here's the trailer. Click here to watch 'jlp_trail_v2b'

Cover of SOUNDS from March 26 1983
Current mood: accomplished
this was a pain in the ass to scan and get it looking half way decent, an excellent exercise for the graphic design challenged. If I have the patience or get enough requests I'll get around to scanning the rest of this article, for those of you who actually still read... I do recommend the book by Robert Brokenmouth - NICK CAVE: The Birthday Party & Other Epic Adventures, which has some great anecdotal stories, and spans the entire career arc of Nick, from school days through 1996. Includes interviews with the band, Tony Cohen, and just about anyone who came into significant contact with the band.
