UK Music Search Review
Current mood: artistic

Amidst an aural waterfall of cascading guitarscapes and gentle atmospherics you'll find The Colorfield Theory, a US four piece who manage to marry the gorgeous sonics of Sigur Ros to the stadium friendly anthemics of Coldplay and the swooning guitar istrionics of My Bloody Valentine.
LEAVE HERE WHILE YOU CAN is an EP that showcases the bands expansive sound to devastating effect, from the atmospheric opener PURPLE SKY with its spiralling guitar scrawls, huge melodies and dreamy soundscapes to closing trip hop meets shoegazing I HAVE NOTHING, this is a record that overflows with beautiful sound and sublimity. SPIN OUTSIDE YOU finds The Colorfield Theory utilising acoustic guitars and windswept fuzzy distortion, finding the missing link between Radiohead, Coldplay and The Goo Goo Dolls; US college rock with bruised emotion and sky scraping aspirations. The dreamlike country of CAN is another sublime sounding moment, the vocals floating cloud like over swelling guitar excursions and a laid back fluid bass rumble.
An atmospheric and sublime sounding band, The Colorfield Theory make music that dares to dream; crafting songs that take you on a journey and leave you breathless, exhilarated and satisfied. LEAVE HERE WHILE YOU CAN is an EP worthy of obsession and love.

Kaledoscopic Rockzine Review
Current mood: weird
Category: Music

Delicate, damaged alternative guitar pop.  Minimalist and raw, The Colorfield Theory hang around in your mind for days, gently haunting you.  They are destructible, more liable to drift even further away for every second that you listen, and that's a big part of their magic.  Nearly every aspect of The Colorfield Theory's music is so drifty as to not exactly stick together perfectly, but there's a slight melodic edge winding through all the components, pulling it all together.  They pretend they're the driftiest thing ever but what music does unravel out of the craze that is The Colorfield Theory is tighter than you think it is more cutting and hard-hitting than it sounds as well.  The Colorfield Theory are deep, and you'll have to search hard to find meanings in the music, but once you find it, it could be the most enlightening thing you hear this year.  The drumming is relaxed, sliding right back on the beat(none of that thrashin and bashin going on here); the guitars, twinkling little; and those vocals.  They're tortured, twisted sections of a soul.  It all builds up, and when it clicks, it's an incredible moment.
Verdict:  Delve deep into The Colorfield Theory and you'd find amazing moody music.  You just have to listen hard.

TricZine Review
Current mood: hyper

TRIC #21 FALL 2005

The Colorfield Theory, a four-piece from South Jersey, is comprised of
visual artists who believe (according to their myspace slogan), that
"sound is color." Hoping to blur the boundary between visual and aural
experience, their music is heavily textured and oh-so-dreamy. Their
first independent release, EP "Leave Here While You Can" has five
songs in the Shoegazer tradition. Easier on the ears than My Bloody
Valentine and less psychedelic than Spacemen 3 and Spiritualized, the
entire EP is chock full of melodic, beautifully, moody pop songs that
feel very warm and familiar. Maybe that’s because, according to the
band, they sound like "the dream you had last night." So how'd they do
that? The songs have layers of soothing yet distorted guitars and
subdued and quiet vocals. The songs float, but are not sappy or
sugary. The guitars are accessible fuzz, not dense or dark. However,
there are moments when the guitars are used for maximum impact, as in
the opener "Purple Sky" and in the song "Can," where the guitars come
on strong and intense, flooding over you in waves. Not bad for a first
release, and I look forward to the day when these guys are on the same
bill as another local "nu-gazer" band Dragon City, so I can see whose
guitars are louder on stage. Check out www.myspace.com/thecolorfield
