Movies Seen In August
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

Alright everyone, it's that time of the month again when I show you the film's I've seen from the previous month with a total of the films seen for this year. Now for those of you who are new and don't fully understand what this blog post is about, then keep reading, as for everyone else skip the next paragraph  and continue to the bottom.

Over a year ago me and a group of people all over the website "MySpace" got together and started a game; the game was at the beginning of the year to start counting every film you've seen for the month and the one with the most was the winner of that said  month, however at the end of the year the one who saw the most for the entire year would be the overall winner and would have bragging rights over everyone else. Now after the contest was over none of us was planning to go through it again, however a small group of us who participated decided to keep the tradition alive but in a none competitive style, so that way no one would feel like a loser, but we can all chat about each of the films we saw that month and share it with those who have not heard of the game, and also add a few changes to the rules, some of us count every single film we've seen, other only count the films they've never seen, I count the films I've only seen once this year, and not again until the next year. So take a look and feel free to ask any questions about the films I've seen below.

1.Offensive Behaviour (2004) (DVD) Rating – 5/10

Quick thoughts; Offensive Behaviour has some moments to it that's enjoyable, however much like all of Troma Entertainment's produced films, the film lacks in proper quality storytelling and sometimes ends up taking the easy root out on all points to the plot. But with all said it's still something to check out if you've got nothing to do on a lonely Saturday evening.

2.The Weather Man (2005) (DVD) Rating – 7/10

Quick thoughts; The Weather Man was a very entertaining film that was at times sad as well as amusing, but the film sometimes lacks in getting its message across, it spends the entire time setting the punch line to its message but never quite comes through in the end and left me a little disappointed in the end, but aside from this minor setback to the film it still remain a very enjoyable film to watch.

3.Lost Boys: The Tribe - Unrated Version (2008) (DVD) Rating – 6/10

Quick thoughts; I'm an avid fan of the cult classic film "Lost Boys" can pretty much watch it over and over without getting tired, so when I heard of a sequel in the works I thought this could go one of two ways, really good, and or really bad, so after a long wait I caught Lost Boys: The Tribe on DVD, and to my surprise it was both bad and somewhat entertaining, bad because this film cannot in anyway come near to the greatness of the first film, it's way too cheesy at times, and it lack the ability to at least be a cult classic, which to my understanding this film would have been a good film had it not have the name lost boys attached to it. On the upside to it, the film is fairly entertaining as a vampire flick and even teases you with a possible second sequel.

4.National Treasure (2004) (DVD) Rating – 8/10

Quick thoughts; National Treasure was an intensely enjoyable film, actually more like a thrill ride of adventure of mystery after mystery that one with an inquisitive mind can't refuse, I didn't expect much and got a real treat out of this one.

5.National Treasure: Book of Secrets (2007) (DVD) Rating – 8/10

Quick thoughts; With Book of Secrets the sequel to the blockbuster hit National Treasure, proved to be just as entertaining as the first film, however at times I felt the film was a little too cheesy and a little out there at certain points, however it still manage to keep me wanting more, and there for I was not let down by it, and now look forward to the next installment.

6.Starship Troopers (1997) (DVD) Rating – 8/10

Quick thoughts; Starship Troopers is in my opinion one of the best sci-fi action adventures I have ever seen, the film shows us a fantasy future were after democracy fails the human race must unite under a global military dictatorship to save the world against a global threat, massive bugs from another world. The film had everything a moviegoer could ask for, action, great storytelling, romance, and comedy, the film was made much in the same respect as Robocop. I highly recommend to any moviegoer looking for a good time.

7.Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation (2004) (DVD) Rating – 4/10

Quick thoughts; Hero of the Federation was a serious letdown, the film did not carry the same tone the first SP film had, and try's to be more then what is was, which wasn't very empresove to begin with, the acting is horrible, the plot is even worse, and the CGI is laughable, not to mention the first half of the film try's to play out as an action comedy while the next half as a horror suspense, by the time the film was over I was angry and sadden at how poorly done this was.

8.Starship Troopers 3: Marauder (2008) (DVD) Rating – 5/10

Quick thoughts; Marauder was supposed to had be the SP sequel we all had been waiting for, however even this proved to be a disappointment, the film has our main hero Johnny Rico (reprised by Casper Van Dien) return to battle the bugs, however despite having the lead back the film still lacks what made the first film great, and even though it was much batter then the second film it's still not as great as the first.

9.Dark City - Director's Cut (1998) (DVD) Rating – 8/10

Quick thoughts; finally after ten years of waiting, the Director's Cut of the cult classic hit Dark City finally made way to DVD, and much like the original cut, this Director's Cut is just as much entertaining, if not more, and worth checking out if you're into SCI-FI.

10.The Squid and the Whale (2005) (DVD) Rating – 6/10

Quick thoughts; The Squid and the Whale was ok, but in my opinion could have been much, much more. The film tells a story about a dysfunctional family who are trying to deal with the ever so growing problems within their family, I say the film was ok because as most of you know my views politically and in life are at times very conservative, and despite my distaste to a liberal style of living I seat back and gave this film a chance as I feel as a critic it would be wrong of me to down a film before even watching it, but still, it was just a film I could not get into no matter how much I keep an open mind to it.

11.Organizm (2008) (DVD) Rating – 4/10

Quick thoughts; Organizm, a film that had great potential to be fantastic but failed horribly on acting and proper storytelling and CGI.

12.Smart People (2008) (DVD) Rating – 7/10

Quick thoughts; Smart People was a great film with an intelligent and witty style of comedy and drama, however the direction the film went towards the end did not fully bold well with me and overall was little bit is a letdown, but still keep me mostly entertained the whole way.

13.Pineapple Express (2008) (Theaters) Rating – 7/10

Quick thoughts; Pineapple Express was a somewhat of a letdown for me, I was expecting so much more from it and yet it did not delver, the jokes were sometimes overdone and the speed of the film's story runs a little too slow, there were moments during the film were I was bored out my mind, and the more I tried to love it the I wanted it to be the more I felt a headache coming alone. Overall it was a good film, but not great.

14.Tropic Thunder (2008) (Theaters) Rating – 9/10

Quick thoughts; Tropic Thunder blow my mind away, never in the last ten years have I had so much fun in a spoof film then I did with Tropic Thunder, the acting the story action and the comedy was spot on in my opinion.

15.Mama's Boy (2007) (DVD) Rating – 6/10

Quick thoughts; Mama's Boy was an okay film, however with names like Jon Heder, Diane Keaton, Jeff Daniels, and Anna Faris, you'd think this would be a great comedy, however this is not the case, the film was very mediocre with your typical run of the mile jokes that could be seen coming a mile away, however the film is still ok to check out for those loney and bored nights with nothing on the tube.

16.See No Evil (2006) (DVD) Rating – 4/10

Quick thoughts; See No Evil was a real let down, not only was it not scary, but was done horribly, the diractiong the films too was mine numbing at times.

17.Heat (1995) (DVD) Rating – 9/10

Quick thoughts; Heat was a fantastic film, great acting, great cast, great story telling and above all great directing, this is a must see.

18.Gattaca (1997) (DVD) Rating – 8/10

Quick thoughts; Gattaca was a great SCI-FI, nice plot with a great cast and outstanding storytelling.

19.Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day (2008) (DVD) Rating – 8/10

Quick thoughts; Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day was fantastic, I went into this not expecting much and walked out with a great big smile on my face. In my opinion the film is totally worth watching.

20.Nim's Island (2008) (DVD) Rating – 7/10

Quick thoughts; Nim's Island was a pretty good film, not a masterpiece, however not a bad film ether, the film is a great family adventure that will be loved by the whole family and by those who are a child at heart.

21. The Eye 3 (2005) (DVD) Rating – 6/10

Quick thoughts; The Eye 3was a bit of a disappointment for me, as much as I loved The Eye film for its horror, and the The Eye 2 for its heart touching plot, The Eye 3 has neither, the film has a somewhat comedic tone to it more than anything, no matter how much I tried I could not get anything out this not even a little scream, however it still manage to keep me more or less entertained for the hour half it played.

22. Nixon – Director's Cut (1995) (DVD) Rating – 8/10

Quick thoughts; Nixon was a magnificent film, many people look at President Richard Nixon as one the worst Presidents in US history, however the film Nixon shows him as a good man that meant well but was clouded by power and the constant wanting to be loved by the people was his undoing, and could have been one of the greatest Presidents our country ever had if he had just made different choices, ultimately the film focuses mainly on his childhood with his two brothers illnesses and his upbringing, and how he fight a heard battle to get into the White House and what good he had done before it was all overshadowed by the Watergate scandal.

23. Postal - Unrated (2007) (DVD) Rating – 4/10

Quick thoughts; Postal is director Uwe Boll's newest attempt at making a decent movie, however even when he dilebretly tries to make a bad film which mocks America and everything it stands for, he fails badly, his problem is and always will be is lacking the ability to make an original idea from being creative, yes he's a smart cookie I'll give him that, but just because one is smart doesn't mean they are capable of making a good movie, some of Hollywood's biggest dumbasses can make Oscar worty films because they are creative, and creativity is was Mr. Boll lacks.

24. Virgin Territory (2007) (DVD) Rating – 6/10

Quick thoughts; Virgin Territory was an ok film, however there any problems with it, the first being the direction the film heads, for one thing the main character which is played by Hayden Christensen, has a small role compared to some of the secondary characters, not to mention he spends a good amount of the film's time without speaking so much as a word, however since the film demands he remains silent mostly in the film you'd think it would work. Wrong it doesn't, and when he does speak it's even worse. Having  Christensen in this was both a blessing and a curse, but more of a cure then anything.

25. The Counterfeiters (2007) (DVD) Rating – 8/10

Quick thoughts; The Counterfeiters is a film I knew very little of when going into it, all I had known about the plot was it took place during WWII, well I came out satisfied, the film's plot takes place with the Nazis capturing a Jewish man who is said to be the best counterfeiter in all of Europe, him and a group of other Jewish prisoners must help Nazis create a flawless  replica of the British Pound and the American Dollar to help fund their war effort and in return they will get their lives spared. I had a lot of fun with this one and so will anyone who enjoys a good WWII suspense.

Category: Art and Photography

This is for my good friend Kelsey, she is part of a scholarship contest and need as many votes as she can get before it end tomorrow morning, so please help her out by voting on the pics below and tell anyone you know to do the same, thanks!

"First of all thank you to everyone who voted for me in this contest the last time I asked. It pushed me up about 700 rankings. My highest entry (Jack the Pumpkin King) is number 43 right now out of nearly 5000. There isn't much time until the contest ends though so I need to get all the support for it now that I can get. You can rate, leave a comment about it, and vote all as a guest so you don't even have to sign up! If you scroll down to the bottom of the page you can write something about the picture and right next to it you can easily rate it. This will really help my ranking if you do. They are all fun and silly pictures I think you will enjoy. The contest ends wednesday and you can vote for each one up to every 24 hrs. If anyone is willing to repost this blog that has some different blog viewers, I would greatly appreciate that as well. Here is the link to all of my entries. That's great if you are willing to vote for all, but don't feel like you have to. I would rather you just vote for a few and give me some solid comments on them. Thanks, I appreciate it!"

My New Website Collectorsextreme.com
Category: Life

Hey hey everyone, it's your friendly neighborhood Comic Whore! Here to tell you I've got some really BIG news to share, but first off let me apologies for not posting movie reviews in such a long time, but trust me when I say there is a reason behind it and I will be back full on to reviewing soon, but first let me explain to you why I've been MIA for all this time, for as long as I've been reading comic books it has always been a dream of mine to one day open my own comic book shop, however that dream has always been somewhat too far for my reach, in a way you could blame it was my lack in self-confidence, if it wasn't me telling myself I wasn't smart enough to do something like running a business, then it would be I wasn't financially capable of doing such a thing, I was always coming up with one stupid excuse after another, which you could say was all based on fear, the fear of failing.

The fear of letting myself down, until about five months ago, I don't know what exactly happened, it could be a number of things, but what I think it was, is my comic book dealer whom has been supplying me with a comic book fix on a weekly bases every week for the last ten years finally broke the news to me that he was retiring and that he was closing the shop, and I needed to fine a new comic shop to buy my comics from once he closed.

Now many of you fellow comic book geeks out there know what it's like to go to another shop to get your comics, it's like having to start over in a new high school, none of the customers will ever treats you like one of the regulars, and there's always going to be this awkwardness between you and the shop owner, it just won't ever feel the same, and I guess you could say that through this realization it hit, I no longer wanted to be the one buying, I for a change want to be on the other side of that counter, I want to be the seller this time around and make my own rules on how all customers should be treated in an establishment such as this, it's my time to make my mark on the world, so with that thought running through my mind I want and gathered together my old comics and some of my old DVDs, then along with most of my life savings I brought a pretty big stock of products. Along with my brother we decided to take this risk and start up our own website called collectorsextreme.com/.

collectorsextreme.com

Now after you take a look, I'd like to ask a favor of you, my readers, since this is my first time at doing such I need your help in spreading the word about my site to everyone, online and offline, blog about it, bulletin it, tell your friends and family. You won't know just how much it will mean to me if all of you can help me out. We sale DVDs, Comics, Collectible miniatures and Movie memorabilia. I invite you all to please come by and check out my website, and if you see something you like then who knows maybe you'll buy it .We update the site daily, with new products, and with the winter holidays coming up soon these will make great gifts for anyone.

I'd also like to give thanks to one of my fellow film critics, whom have been a loyal reader and most impotently, a friend. Thanks Kelsey.
