Show Review- The Dollyrots @ Beat Kitchen in Chicago
Category: Music
Kelly Ogden of The Dollyrots - Photo by Anita Maree Lande
Band: Kelly Ogden: Vox, Bass: Luis Cabezas: Guitar, Vox Chris Black: Drums
Awesome Dollyrots...Simply Awesome!
Date: August 10, 2007 Venue: Beat Kitchen, Chicago IL
L.A. punk-rockers The Dollyrots smashed down the walls with their energizing performance in support of their latest album Because I'm Awesome. As soon as Kelly began strumming the opening notes on her bass the night just started to move fast-forward. They kicked it off with the pop-punk driven My Best Friend's Hot as Kelly sang and the crowd chanted back; My Best Friend's Hot/No Matter What I do/You Love Me Not. They rolled right into Out Of L.A. with blue-haired guitarist Luis jumping and showing off his guitar riffs. Drummer Chris Black pounded it out during their politically driven, hard-hitting A Desperate S.O.S. One of the best performances was the remake of the Melanie Safka song Brand New Key. Read More

New Interview- Saving Jane’s Marti Dodson
Category: Music
Check out our interview with Marti Dodson from Saving Jane Saving Jane formed when Marti Dodson was attending Ohio State University. Marti showed up at a campfire party and met an excellent guitar player named Pat Buzzard. The duo began writing songs and soon decided to form a band. Saving Jane's current line up includes Marti handling lead vocals, Pat on rhythm guitar, Dak Goodman on drums, Jeremy Martin on bass, Brandon Hagan on lead guitar and Joe Cochran on keyboards. The band took their name "Saving Jane" from a cartoon character that Marti was doodling while passing time in the studio during one of their early recording sessions.
In October of 2005 Saving Jane's full length debut CD "Girl Next Door" was released - the music industry took notice when their title track hit the Billboard charts. They have just released their new project "One Girl Revolution". This CD will knock you off your feet - great writing and vocals from Marti and the band just keeps getting better and playing harder. Saving Jane is a dynamic alternative rock band who command the stage with their mere presence, let alone their fine musicianship and great lyrics.
Recently Lizz Randolph and Marie Atwell from The Cover Zone and Demo-ology.com had a chance to catch up with Marti and the boys in their hometown of Columbus, Ohio. Check out the interview here on "Recorded Live."

Lynda Mandolyn of Fabulous Disaster

Fabulous Disaster
"Love at First Fight"

Insights and Interviews with Lizz Randolph & The Cover Zone Presents
Live with Lynda Mandolyn of Fabulous Disaster
Most veteran indie bands have seen their share of breathtaking highs and dispiriting lows; Fabulous Disaster is no exception. They've been a punk phenom, headlining in packed clubs in the U.S. And even more so in Europe. They've also been a four-piece band cut literally in half by retirement while still waiting for their big break to find a wider audience. Faced with the loss of key personnel (including not one but two lead singers) in the period since the release of their last full-length album (Panty Raid, 2003, Pink & Black), founding members Lynda Mandolyn and Sally Disaster regrouped and eventually reformulated with Lynda on lead vocals, Squeaky on guitar and Lizzie Boredom on bass, and Sally on drums.
It's one thing to soldier on in the face of adversity - many bands plod on long after the magic is gone. However, it's something else altogether to reinvent oneself so skillfully that prior triumphs are eclipsed. With Love At First Fight, Fabulous Disaster is giving notice that they're still playing profoundly melodic hyper-speed rock & roll, only they're now doing it even better than ever before.
The album starts off with the instant classic Such A Stupid Girl. By the time its breathtaking 1:48 is finished, we know that all is indeed very well in the world of Fab D. It's as sharp and irresistibly catchy as the band's best previous work, leaving fans no option but to rise to their feet and dance. There are a grand total of 16 tracks and this record is littered with strong, infectious songs from start to finish. Highlights include Final Stab, Needle & A Valentine, Bitterpills, Walking Down Sunset, Tidal Wave and Turn The Lights Out. The only cover song on the disc concludes the festivities - a fluid, rollicking version of T-Rex's 20th Century Boy.
