We’re pleased to announce that Jim & Karen Covell will be our guest speakers at the upcoming Greenhouse meeting! Between the two of them, they have a wealth of knowledge of the arts & entertainment industry – ways to get started (and keep going), pitfalls to avoid, relationships to forge and foster, and all sorts of other information that you will find helpful in your own artistic goals. They will have lots to share with you and will also respond to any questions you may have about creativity, artistry, and the industry, so come armed with questions. You do not want to miss the Covells at The Greenhouse!

Jim Covell began his career writing music immediately after graduating in music composition from USC. He has been working ever since scoring, songwriting, conducting and arranging in every medium. James has written scores for many feature films, including "Denace the Menace Christmas", "The List", and "Left Behind", recorded with the London Symphony and based on the best-selling book series of the same name. Along with his work in film, Jim has worked for all four of the major networks scoring Pilots, TV Movies, Specials and Series. Jim lives in Valley Village, California, with his wife (Karen) and their two Wonder Boys, Christopher and Cameron.

Karen Covell is an accomplished television producer, author, and the co-owner of JC Productions (along with Jim). She has worked on various TV shows and Specials throughout the years, including most recently, "Headliners And Legends With Matt Lauer," "America’s Throwaway Children" and two Shari Lewis children’s videos. She recently has completed a documentary called "The Hollywood Tribe".

News from The Greenhouse

It's a new year at The Greenhouse! We're well into 2008, and we want to give you some news of what is going on with The Greenhouse and a ton of ways you can get involved.

• The First Greenhouse Film: The film entitled "Spy Games", which was written, produced, shot, and performed by a Greenhouse crew and cast, finished photography on January 28th and is now in post-production! Everyone who was involved has reported that the shoot was a great opportunity, so be watching for updates on a screening of Spy Games in the near future.

• Future Greenhouse Creative Projects: We've already got some more films and creative projects in the works, including a film called "Morphine" and the next installment of "Spy Games", so be sure to read emails from The Greenhouse in the coming days!

• The Next Greenhouse Meeting: Our next official Greenhouse meeting is March 2, 2008, at 7:00 p.m. (RSVP for the address and directions.) We're already lining up some great speakers and working toward putting together seminars that will help you in all aspects of your craft.

• Application & Dues: To make sure you're working alongside other people who are as dedicated as you are to excelling as artists, we've made some good changes to The Greenhouse. Starting in March, we'll have an application process that will help ensure that we're getting great artists involved in what we do. This will also help us to keep in touch with you and to get you plugged in with projects that fit who you are as an artist. If you have already been a part of The Greenhouse, we'll get you an application to bring with you to the next meeting. If you're new to the group, feel free to just visit a couple times first so you know what we're all about. After the application process, we're also going to charge Greenhouse dues in the amount of $100 each quarter. This money will go towards helping to finance the films and other creative projects you work on, food and supplies for meetings, and similar expenses. If you have any questions about the application and dues, please feel free to get in touch.

All of us at The Greenhouse are looking forward to a great 2008 season with you! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email us.

All my best,
Shun Lee
