JULY 29th, 2008 - Cumbancha is pleased to announce the worldwide, digital-only release of "Minee Koleh Mibehi (Refrain Thy Voice From Weeping)," a new single from The Idan Raichel Project, one of the most successful and acclaimed world music ensembles. Available exclusively through iTunes beginning July 29th, the new track is the first new single to be released internationally since the end of 2006 when The Idan Raichel Project's self-titled debut album was first presented to the world by the Cumbancha record label.
Since then, The Idan Raichel Project has performed to sell-out crowds across the US, Europe, Australia, India, Mexico and more, appearing in New York's Central Park and Radio City Music Hall, the Sydney Opera House, London's Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles and many other prestigious venues. Presenting an inspiring example of tolerance and cross-cultural collaboration, the Israeli collective has earned a wide and devoted fan base with its appealing mixture of Middle Eastern, Yemenite, Ethiopian, Caribbean and pop music flavors. Billboard Magazine heralded Idan's first international release calling it "One of the most fascinating titles to emerge in world music ...a multi-ethnic tour de force." The New York Times selected the album as one of the top world music releases of 2007, and media from Peru to Portugal was unanimous in their praise.
Raichel is often inspired by the poetry and universal themes of ancient philosophers and Biblical texts. As he often points out "All of the important sentences have already been written and we have to express them in our contemporary language." "Minee Koleh Mibehi (Refrain Thy Voice From Weeping)" is based on a passage from the Old Testament, and is a memorial and message of hope to all who have suffered through the loss of loved ones to war and conflicts. "Refrain thy voice from weeping, thy work shall be rewarded. There is hope for thy future."

Idan Raichel interviewed on Al Jazeera’s English-language network
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
On March 14th, Israeli superstar Idan Raichel was featured in a 30-minute interview on the English-language version of Al Jazeera, the television network best-known for its coverage of issues related to the Middle East. Raichel sat down with famed reporter Riz Kahn for an in-depth conversation about his history as a successful recording artist and his thoughts on what his music represents in the local political context.
Kahn’s popular program, One on One is more a conversation than a news interview, profiling celebrities and newsmakers from around the globe, with a focus on their personal histories, defining moments and goals in life. Previous guests include His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Bob Geldof, Richard Branson, CBS veteran journalist Mike Wallace, Canadian rock star Bryan Adams, Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat, former First Lady of Egypt Jehan Sedat and singer songwriter Angelique Kidjo, to name just a few.
