the decline & fall of the music industry
it seems that warners paranoia about the internet and it's effect on the market has reached the point of not allowing artists to post their own music on their own myspace sites. you might have thought that they would have seen its use as some kind of promotional tool, but no, not without permission. what a waste of time. i will sort it out but not this week, i've got to polish the cat or something.
email from myspace
The content you uploaded was blocked because the copyright filter identified your upload as containing audio content owned by UMG and WMG, and these companies have demanded that their content not be uploaded to MySpace. If you have or can get UMG and/or WMG's permission to upload this content, we would be happy to assist you in uploading it to your profile and reinstating your uploading privileges. We would need a professional email from UMG and/or WMG stating that you are allowed to upload the content in question to your MySpace profile.
What I'm Listening To... illegal downloads, motherfuckers.

LOVE YOU TIL THE END
Well, it seems that Love You Til The End has become Everybodys Favourite Pogues song since sob-fest movie PS I Love You featured it. We get more requests for it than anything else by a country mile. Mostly by people with jobs. Not the usual feckless whiskey-swilling down and outs that make up the bulk of our audience. No disrespect intended, you bunch of wasters but I'd rather listen to the whole lot of you telling me over and over and over about your dear old irish grandmother, than have to live through another five minutes of some chino wearing couple showing us a wallet full of pictures of their kids at camp last year.
Anyway, lovers and losers, mybleedinspace won't let me put up any new songs because i appear to be infringing our own copyright.
Adios, Spider

so... decided to put up some new (old) songs, change things round a bit. hope you like the accompanying artwork... if you don't, then i feel sorry for you. some of you in australia and japan may have heard it rumoured that we are heading out your way later this year. sadly those plans have been shelved, but who knows what the future has in store? thats a rhetorical question, by the way, but any hints will be gratefully received, if not necessarily acknowledged. spider.

Oh, and ignore the release date on the amazon link below unless you are buying it in dollars...
The Pogues
Latest: We've put up a collection of covers all taken from the new box set, that we did over the years. Some you will know already in other forms, Dirty Old town is live at Glasgow Barrowlands in about '87 for instance. Got a Lotta Livin' To Do was for an NME thing around the same time. London Calling, with Joe Strummer, can't remember where this was...When The Ship Comes In, a Dylan song covered on Pogue Mahone. Eve Of Destuction was around the time we were demoing the songs for Hells Ditch & Japan. Well, Japan is a well intentioned tip of the hat to Pharoah Sanders and Japan itself.

PROBLEMS, PROBLEMS, PROBLEMS...Problem over
Somehow we have have ended up with a sort of Pogues/unknown Mexicans mash up on the page. I'm having a go at fixing it but in the meantime why not track down Astral Social Club and turn the volume up.
Spider
I used to like the bit where you could say here what you were watching/listening/reading but it seems to have gone. So, i'll tell you anyway, Land of Promise, the British Documentary Movement 1930-50 on dvd from the BFI. Absolutely brilliant.
6pm. Problem over, thanks to Maryelle.

LOOK THEM STRAIGHT IN THE EYE...6 New tracks
Six more from the forthcoming box set. What's to say? A nice early version of Greenland, The Kerry Polka from god knows when. Haunted, off of the Sid & Nancy soundtrack. Lovely Cait vocal. Miss Otis Regrets/Just One Of Those Things recorded with Kirsty MacColl for the Red, Hot & Blue compilation, an album to raise AIDS awareness & fund research, that came out in about 1990. Murder Ska - I don't remember singing this even once yet there are two versions of it on here, so I guess it floated around for a bit ....and the semi-mythical Pinned Down, which owes an enormous debt of thanks to Culture's I'm Alone In The Wilderness.

LOOK THEM STRAIGHT IN THE EYE...MORE TRACKS
Here's a few more. Glued Up & Speeding, an old Millwall Chainsaws song (my first band) that the Pogues covered for Sid & Nancy. Connemara Lets Go, an early version of Down In The Ground. Shane changed the title right before the album was pressed. I'm glad he did. Something Wild. I'll have to ask someone else, I can't remember a thing about it. (James, can you help me out?) The history of the Rocky Road To Dublin is a bit hazy too...Do You Believe In Magic is great and so is My Baby's Gone, sung and written by Andrew.

LOOK THEM STRAIGHT IN THE EYE...AND SAY POGUE MAHONE!!!
Thanks to everybody who came along to all the US shows. I hope you had as much fun as we did and here's hoping we can all do it again next year.
We've added some tracks from off the box set. There's Poor Paddy & Transmetropolitan from our first ever studio session, a live version of Brown Eyes from er...maybe Glasgow in 1987. Fall from Grace is a different version with a Kirsty MacColl vocal on and Afro-Cuban-Be-Bop is something we recorded with Joe Strummer during the Hells Ditch sessions. However, I might be wrong about some of this. Yer actual artifact is out soonish and will tell you all you need to know.
Spider
I'm reading A Firing Offense by George Pelicanos but the computer won't compute that so I'm telling you.
I have added Junk Theme from the Sid & Nancy soundtrack to the film of the same name. You know, the one with the same ending as Grease.
