The Wolf Group..

Indie rock scenesters are seriously the greatest sheep on earth next to christians, honestly people. Does the truth really hurt that bad! It's actually just laughable how trendy and mindless they are. Most journalists these days don't even understand what the original designation "indie rock" means for crying-out-loud! It means not being on a major label: they are "independent" or DIY. (if you don't know what DIY means, look it up). The reason they are on a major label half the time is because the other people that follow trends are the execs that are marketing them, and making a bunch of money off of the sheep that fall for "what is hip now." Hey, here's an interesting idea; let's all put the word "Wolf" in our band name! It'll be really neat and we will be famous for a second, then break up. Or, let's grow a gnarly hippy beard, and look completely disgusting. Chicks dig it! Ad nausium, you get the point. Do something unique for once in your life:)

Bands with Beards
Current mood: annoyed

Can someone explain why so many assholes are wearing beards these days? Does it get them laid? Somehow I doubt it but if you look at the crop of shitty, emotionless, tired bands today, one if not several fools have those fucked up things. My guess is that they are so ugly they have to hide their face behind that entanglement of grossness. When I see a band with a beard (or beards) it makes me completely uninterested in them and know they are just jumping on the proverbial bandwagon. Good job assholes! Way to stand out and be individualistic in a conformist sort of way. No one would ever confuse Band of Horses with Iron and Whine with, ah, fuck it... you know the types even if you dont know the names which are irrelevant anyway.
I want to light a match under them all. Except ZZ Top.

The Punk Group From Outer Space DVD now available!

The Punk Group celebrates its 5 year anniversary with the release of their brand new DVD entitled "From Outer Space".  Acclaimed film makers Scott Stanton and Tony Sophie (SICK VIDEO) from the Bay Area produced this DVD with footage shot over two days in the summer of 2006 and includes material spanning their 5 year career. Also included is recently discovered footage from the original tapes, (mostly shot on 8mm) 3 animated videos ("Fat Girls on Bicycles" appeared on Comedy Central's "Web Shows" in the spring of 2007), 2 full concerts, interviews, guest commentary and clips from their very first show at Satyricon in 2002.
The Punk Group will be performing at Dantes in Portland, OR on Friday December 7th 2007 pulling material from their extensive nine album catalog along with Portland's own human beat-box synthesizer extraordinaire FOGATRON. Also on the bill from Davenport, Iowa making his first ever appearance in Portland, the quad-city madman himself, MAGIC CYCLOPS. Hosting the evening is ROCK 101.1 KUFO's Viva La Luna Hostess LISA WOOD! There is also talk that The Punk Group may turn the evening over to the audience for 'The Punk Group Karaoke' where YOU get on stage with the band and sing one of their songs while they supply the live music behind you. All this for $7? YES, and more! Bring a date and your wallet and you just may walk out of there with more than you bargained for. As Jihad Jerry says on the DVD, "The Punk Group make you want to go out and screw…"

"The Punk Group From Outer Space" DVD will be on sale at the show for $15

Paul and Jerry Poirier -the meeting

OK, so those who live in Portland, OR (particularly N.E. Portland) have seen the bus stop benches for years of 2 men posing together advertising for their real estate firm with only the words "Paul and Jerry Poirier" written next to their image. "Who are these guys?", "Are they brothers?" are what alot of people were wondering when they started noticing them around the same time we did in 2002. "They're not brothers, they're gay!" we replied in song called simply "Poirier Bros?" from our first album "International Rock Stars". Not only did we answer the question everyone had on their minds, but gave these two realtors their own theme song.
Fast forward 5 years to present day and the unlikely chance meeting at Fred Meyers with none other than Paul Poirier himself. Not only were they aware of the song, but they were in on the joke and "got a kick out of it". It was also reported that during the Holidays last year, they went to all the music stores in town and bought all of our albums to give as stocking stuffers for their friends. I digress. Anyway, we were very excited about meeting these two local legends that they invited us to their house (which is amazing, by the way) on Halloween for an impromptu photo shoot/meet and greet. These guys are rock stars and were the coolest, nicest guys around. They hammed it up for us even donning our trademark white sunglasses for the event. The photos can be seen on our Myspace page, because seeing is believing.
If anyone needs to buy a house or has questions about buying a house, call these guys, they're in the phone book and tell 'em we sent you.

KUFO and The Punk Group

If you live in the Portland area or stream Rock 101 KUFO over the internet, you may have heard a familiar sound coming from the Marconi show between 2 and 7pm. Thats right, it's The Punk Group and we've taken over the airwaves (at least for 30 seconds) throughout his program.
The good folks over there have also been playing "Online Predator" in rotation on both the Marconi show throughout the week and Viva La Luna on Sunday nights. Call em up and tell 'em you want MORE of The Punk Group. Or you can check out their MySpace page at www.myspace.com/marconishow and listen to the jingle we made.
And now for a special Holiday surprise, we were just approached to make a rendition of a favorite X-Mas song to be played once that time approaches on and for KUFO. We chose the "Little Drummer Boy" but quickly changed it to the "Little Drum Machine Boy" which will be available for download in the next few days. We'll keep you posted. In the meantime, rock off and fuck on with KUFO 101.1FM!
