Camilly Interview 7/9/08

MUSIC

1.

What sparked your interest in becoming a performer?

Always had the ability to draw attention and/or a crowd since a child. Had the talent to go with it, so I made it a career lol.

2.

 Who was your favorite musician?

As far as Musician Alicia Keys.

But as an entertainer, I have to many favorites, like
Bone thugs n Harmony, Tupac, Eminem, Nas, etc.

3.

What type of music will you be performing?

I play piano, but Im a rapper, so seeing the two together combined has never been seen. But for now, the rapping will be what is seen.

4.

What type of image are you going to portray?

I have no image, what you see is who I really am.

But if I appear one way today and different the next, its because like my true personality, I change and grow each day.

5.

 Who is your target audience?

Anyone who first of all enjoys good music, but more so rap. I collaborate with alot of R&b singers and rock bands, so my audience is broad from kids and teens to grown adults. But with this first foot in the door of the game, im goin directly after anyone who listens to southern rap (based out of Atlanta and other southern regions).

6.

What is your stance on media portrayal of Hip Hop?

Its not dead obviously cause Im still breathin'.

An I live for hip hop in a sense. Its a growin part of me. I aint happy with newcomers making music with no effort, or just doin it for the money. I take my time with my music and anyone who listens to more than one song of mine will know that. But hip hop just like me is growing and is rebellious, hard headed, young, and dangerous but is also talented, innovating, adored worldwide by many, trendsetting and addicting. The media will always be harsh on something that is loved by kids and adolescents (i/e young popstars) So its not just about rap, its the older corporate media dictating what they think is harmful for the youth, when in reality, hip hop is a real look into whats really goin on in the minds of us young people.

7.

Why should people check you out?

Because I have mass appeal without following trends. Im a trendsetter. Im loyal to all fans and put out quality music that i take my time making. And Im well educated about the rap game so i know my stuff. You want something lyrical? Im ya man. You want dance music, I can do that too. Wanna hear a really fast rapper that you can UNDERSTAND THE LYRICS? LOL im that man. The Real Camilly.

LIFE STORY

1.

What type of child were you?

Playful, protective and rebellious. Protective because If i saw anyone being bullied, I would beat the bully up. But only rebllious because I gotta curious mind. I dont alwayz beleive what I hear, so like a detective I go find out if its real, at any cost.

2.

 How was your childhood?

Loved it. Even today I still relive my childhood everyday, because its still apart of me. I still play games, still make little kids laugh and have fun, still watch sitcoms and cartoons with no shame. I just wish I had more of it.

3.

 How was your schooling?

Due to no one around me whating to tell me how this or that works, my teachers where my best friends. I was a very inquisitive child, so I alwayz asked questions about everything. And apparently teachers liked that.

4.

What social environment did you live in?

Semi safe I think. My mom did keep me from danger as long as she could, but it always found me. Ive been taken under the wings of thugs and gangsters since about 5, for reasons I still dont understand. I always seen people gettin robbed or jumped. Gangs, both crip and blood would show me how they really get down. The guns, the raping, the attempted murders, all was shown to me as a child. I was already stealing and robbing people before high school. Bringing weapons to school and threatening anyone who threatened me. From 8th grade to the 11th, I literally fought all major school board figures of authority. (My teachers, homeroom teachers, police officers, bus drivers, which all got me nearly expelled in all differnt schools). *Im a military brat, so I've lived in many cities.

At at even younger age, I was shown sexual behavior and even forced to perform acts by these "mentors", as initiation.

My reward was watever I wanted at the time, money, toys, and even respect. If i needed a bike or some food, my gang would get it for me at any cost.

People nearly have lost their lives from the circles I was running in, and still i never looked twice about it and continued to play and watch cartoons, like it was normal.

Writting gang signs that i didnt even know meant anything.

And all this, without ever having to actually join either side of the gangs. To them I was just the cool little brother that could do backflips and rap fast.

5.

What social causes, if any, are you involved in?

A social cause Im into is alittle more complex than most people would care to understand. Its a combination of verbal freedom, young people taking risks in life, religion, and being true to oneself. My social cause isnt really about protecting earth or most common themes, its more like helping the developing minds that I seem to influence, which doesnt exclude adults beyond my age. Of course down the road I will have my own charities.

6.

If there are three things you can change about the world, what would they be? Why?

One, would be poverty. I hate it. It hardens the soul but at the same time can make u a stronger person. No one should be poor in my opinon, but not every one should be rich either if that makes any sense.

Two, would be jealousy, envy and hate. I wish i could erase it, its ugly and makes people ugly.

Three, would be trust issues. I wish we all could trust and rely on each other but we cant and its making us vicious and conniving. Too many people are grimey and want to take advantage of other people like snakes in the grass. I wish i could put an end to two faced people with ulterior motives.

7?

How would you go about the change?

If I could, through rap, speeches or my own actions, I would sho people that these things arent necessary.

And it actually feels good to help somebody else, instead of being selfish for everything we can get our hands on. But until that day is possible, I have to keep eyes in the back of my head and watch my back. Those hard lessons I learned as a child now come in handy helping me defend myself and others, because now i've become fearless and protective.

THE VIOLIN - POEM

The Violin

As you violently scream, -I continued 2 slide violently against your stringz-making that--Violin cry that you love to make. Sometimes you become out of tune. -I assume, as a violin you keep me within my skin. i don't know who's temptation's greater,

your Skinny violin strings or the piano's Keys.- I can play you both... But would i be cheating? I love you both and if I miss an opportunity I'll proably choke. Don't need to smoke no dope, all- that i need is a stroke. And maybe a pluck or two... I think I'm in LOVE with you...

I would- hate 2 shake you the wrong way and break your wire...your my love and desire. Harmonized with a choir, I'm hypnotized. Your style of sound, cries, and sings. Your strings never bring me down. All that I need is your sound.

I -hold you over my shoulder- My hands wrapped around your slender neck piece. Squeezing- because I never want you to leave me...please don't leave me. Oh--the violin--to decievingly quit playing you is a dying sin.... You're my destiny- I play your notes and what's blind in my life WILL see. As I pluck your bassline-- you silently scream in a high pitch in my mind. So virtuous- at any speed or tempo- you add spice to any type of instrumental. Your the mentor of my mental.

Yes-my TRUE mental mentor. You where sent for.....my peace. You scream to me like "Cam-do you hear me?" Sleek and  eerie, you give me chills...

Ha the vio-lin--as we lay and play together, you keep me

smi-ling.  Hard to learn but even harder to forget how not to. But how can I forget- such a style? Made of wood-you play and give off HEAT. From my fingertips to my --feet. Violin-yo you speak to me oh so sweet.

V.icious I.ntelligent O.ptimistic L.ethal I.ntense N.otorious.

The Violin.

If I were to reverse you and play you backwards- you would probably scare us all-Your style is RAW. You drop jaws in awe when laced over a hot beat. The Hip-Hop Violinist becomes your mouth piece to speak. You speak to the world in our symphonies. Your Historical past is Histerical.

So slender and smooth you groove and I loose my cool. Mayn, harps and cellos ain't got nothing on you. But, you turn our eyes to the dark side and dark clouds when things go horribly wrong. You can make us sad, when things go bad.

But at the sametime, you make us all stop and think. Thank you God, for my sight, Lord I can see. Cause as the violin plays-I close my eyes and visualize. Suddenly, things haunt me. Your repetative riffs and skreeks, make me shreek in fright. But as I sleep at night with eyes tight, your strings pierce and bite. Can you hear that-sound of my violin?

Violently screaming -as I violently slide against her strings? It sings-Forget the BLING-just bring me that violin that made me cry. Tear drops and rain.-remind one of pain. And could drive you insane, so why-play this tool of depression? Correction--THIS IS MY TOOL OF PROTECTION. When I'm all alone at home- you soak so deep within my bones.

Now it's on- oh you violin. Melodies pile-in inside of my dome. Let us think of true love the next time you see any violins. Just remember me smile-ing. You think it's over? TRY AGAIN. To be continued...

The Violin.

Bio

Camilly Interview:

By: Ms Rivercity

For people who haven't heard your music, is there someone you would compare your style to?

I change it so much but what you hear a lot of from me is flipping my words real fast. I guess you would say it's like Bone or Twista every now and then. I like to emphasize my words a lot, kinda like Ludacris. I mean, I can't really say cause I wouldn't want someone to expect to hear something like that.

As far as your lyrics, where does your inspiration come from?

I used to be a poet before I was a rapper but my style is a little different from most spoken word artists. People started telling me to get into the rap game. I'm pretty much poetic, as far as how I put my words together. I get a lot of my inspiration from just being myself.

Tell me about the content in some of your past songs.

Me and my homeboy always joke about this because most of my songs be about back in the day and how hard it was coming up. A lot of my songs are laughing in people's face cause I'm making it so quick without them. It's a type of revenge but it's more of a mind trick game. I'm beating them without really doing anything. So I'm telling them, "look at me now; you can't do nothing about it." (laughs)

Were you ever involved in battle rapping?

Ha! Everyday in school, everybody would want me to battle rap them. After I would win, I would move on to someone else. I got paid a couple of times to do it but I don't mainly battle rap. That was just when I was coming up.

Have you ever won any talent shows or competitions?

Yeah, I did a couple of shows back in high school. I did the Philly Brown show in Jacksonville; it was on TV. I won a contest at The Ritz Lavilla Theatre. It was an amateur show, kinda like The Apollo. I think I got second place out there.

Have you done any other shows?

Besides those, I've opened up for Lil Wayne in Tampa and also Young Dro.

What does making music do for you personally? Why do you do it?

It's liberating, kinda like flying. Everybody has problems in their life; everybody has complications, but with this I get to escape. Not saying that it's a fantasy world, but if you want it to be, it can. A lot of tension builds up in me sometimes and I get to let it out. I just do a lot of wild stuff sometimes and just jump around to get it out. It takes away a lot of tension and pain.

What do you want your fans to get out of your music?

Nowadays when everybody talks about hip-hop, everybody's disappointed because the rappers don't put too much time and effort into it. They just make up whatever. I'm not trying to diss anybody but the majority of everyone is following everybody else. I take my time when I do my music. A lot of people right now are trying to copy Jay-Z – freestyling without writing it; but what they're doing is taking away from the artistic side of it. I try to make sure every line grabs your attention. I put a lot of work in mine. I try to keep it classy. I don't take it for granted; I don't do it just to do it.

Where does your production come from?

Back in the day when I was like twelve, I had no producers and I got so mad at how bad people were doing beats so I just taught myself how to do it. I started using little programs from the internet and I got good. Right now, we're trying to find different producers. It's kinda keeping me in the background cause I want to surprise everyone with it. I don't want everybody to hear me while I'm still in my stages. But I produce everyday or write songs for R&B singers or whatever.

Tell me about your past projects.

I did the Dark Angel mixtape. I have the songs posted on the internet at www.soundclick.com/thedarkangel.

Are you working on your next project?

Yeah, we're trying to wrap up all the songs I did in 2006. I'm getting them all finished and ready to push them. We use Myspace as a test market. A lot of people look up to me and support me on there so therefore I give them a preview before anybody else. We're going to release a single in the first quarter of '07. Right now I'm all about promotion and promotional tours.

Elaborate on your promotional plan.

I network whenever I meet somebody with any kind of connections. I'm trying to get into song writing more. If I don't necessarily want to do a song myself, I can get somebody else to do it. Besides that, I'm bringing everybody to my Myspace page. I started out with two fans and now I got almost eleven thousand. Actually, Myspace is my main promotion. I get on it everyday. The address is myspace.com/therealcamilly.

Talk about the indie label you're currently with.

I'm with BWP, which stands for Burnin' With a Passion Entertainment. It started a while back. I was in a group called Up N Flamez; we kinda played off the words from that. It grew into something more than just a label. We started making a movement. We're not just signing people that are fads; they have to be passionate with it. I'm not going to sign anyone who hasn't done as much work or had as much hunger as I did at a young age. I have to see them doing what I did. I'm just trying to be a CEO.

What have you been the most proud of as an artist?

The fact that I'm not known on a major level yet but because of Myspace, a lot of people say that I'm one of their favorite rappers. Some people even say that I "am" their favorite rapper. Some people are shocked that I write them back, saying they've never had a star write them back. You know I'm not a star yet but it makes me feel good because they look at me like that. I would have never thought it would be this big a year ago. Just getting all that support on my own, with CP – my manager, has been the greatest thing so far.

Camilly Bio:

The ability to adapt in different situations calls for great skills and patience. Cameron "Camilly" White has become a master in this ability. Born in Jacksonville, Florida and raised in many others including Memphis, Tennessee, Cam has not only learned how to adjust to physical environments, but also how to develop as an aspiring hip-hop musician. With a quick tongue and fiery delivery, his uniqueness has aptly been dubbed "Wyld Style".

Early in his life, Camilly discovered he was attracted to music with a purpose. Inspired by the intricacy of classical melodies, he learned to play piano at the age of nine. This would become the foundation for his production efforts. Cam says, "When I was about twelve years old, I had no producers and I got so mad at how bad people were doing beats so I just taught myself how to do it. I started using little programs from the internet and I got good at it." Cam's involvement in spoken word poetry, coupled with is keen ear for instrumentals, eventually evolved into something extraordinary. "I used to be a poet back in the day," he says, "people started telling me to get into the rap game. As far as how I put my words together, it's very poetic." Dealing with internal frustrations and sometimes feeling like an outsider, Cam uses writing as therapy. "It's liberating, kind of like flying. Everybody has problems in their life; everybody has complications, but with this I get to escape. A lot of tension builds up in me sometimes and I get to let it out. It takes away a lot of tension and pain."

Originally known as Camilly'ON, Cameron decided to shorten his name to avoid being confused with the rapper Camillionaire. "The females actually came up with Camilly for short. It made them feel special to call me that, but now everyone calls me that." He's often been compared to Twista or Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, but as his name suggests, Camilly is able to switch to slower patterns similar to those of Kanye West and Snoop Dogg. The power to exhibit multiple dimensions has earned Camilly thousands of loyal fans from California to New York and even overseas. With help from the internet, he's been able to reach listeners all over the world. "I'm not even known on a major level yet," he says proudly, "but because of Myspace, I have people telling me that I'm their favorite rapper. Having support from fans like that is the greatest thing that's happened so far." Myspace.com is not his only tool for promotion though; performing locally and regionally has also been beneficial for his buzz. In high school, Camilly won second place at a talent competition for the Ritz Theatre. Since then he has gone on to open for acts such as Lil Wayne and Young Dro.

With an accomplished resume quickly building, Cam has one more challenge he's prepared to

face – successfully operating his own company, Burnin' Witta Passion Ent. was co-founded by Cam alongside his partner Christopher "CP" Pollock. "We started BWP awhile back," he explains, "I was in a group called Up-N-Flamez and we played off the words from that. It grew into a movement. I'm not going to sign anyone who hasn't done as much work or had as much hunger as I did; they have to be passionate. I have to see them doing what I did." Studying moguls like Jermaine Dupri, Dr. Dre, Jay-Z and Russell Simmons has increased his drive and business savvy mindset. "I'm trying to be a CEO now," he says. His first project released under BWP featured 18 songs of both original material and mainstream remixes. Dark Angel was distributed as a promotional item, which proved to be more beneficial than selling it for profit as it reached a wider audience. To date, Camilly has worked with several producers including D.V.U.S, Jawad Mills, Kane, Avalon and several others. He hopes to one day collaborate with Swizz Beatz, Jermaine Dupri, Just Blaze and Pharrell.

Currently, Camilly and CP are finalizing the next project, using their website to test possible singles. One of the potential selections entitled "City on the Map" is perhaps a prediction of future changes – changes that are sure to affect the entire world.

Influenced from a young age to recently by artist like Bone thugs-n-harmony, Three Six Mafia, Da Brat, Tupac Shakur, Nas, Jay-Z, Mc Shan, Jermaine Dupri, Method Man, Alicia Keys, Miri Ben Ari, Eminem, Ludacris, T.I., Biggie Smalls, DMX, many many More....

"I really respect you for doing what you do. Just keep fighting to get up there, I got faith in you." Whispered Grammy nominated R&B artist Alicia Keys to Camilly a few years back at a local concert in Jacksonville Florida.

Tree without Roots

THE TREE WITHOUT ROOTS.

What happens when you take a tree from it's roots?

it DIES...

Even if it lives on for a few days, it will soon

shrivel and PERISH...

So how long can we survive without

our own roots?

Like plants, we all need to grow.

A plant is watered,

just like we are watered with knowledge.

The water then seeps into our roots which continue to grow under us.

Yea, it's ok to leave home; as it is ok for a plant to leave it's flower bed.

But it's important to take your watered roots (wisdom) along the way.

That way, we allow our roots to grow around other plants

where we can share the water.

So go where you please, and continue to grow.

But if you leave your roots behind,

you will forget how to be watered...

and you will quickly Die...

...

Just like the Tree.
