Dubmatix 12-Track Podcast & Interview with solipsistic NATION

Greetings
Hope you are well. There is an interview and 12 track podcast of our live material recently done by solipsistic NATION - a very cool and interesting electronic-themed podcast that also re-broadcasts on KYOU Radio 1550 AM in San Francisco.
My thanks goes out to Joseph of solipsistic NATION for the support. It's alot of unheard Live material from various shows over the past 2 years and includes music from all three releases plus a couple of others.
Enjoy

On today’s show I’m going to follow up on last week’s all dub set by playing live tracks from Dubmatix and talk to the man behind Dubmatix, Jesse King.
Dub is a tricky genre. While the basic elements of dub are understood, but it’s difficult to do good dub well. I’ve wasted hours that must surely equal to weeks of sifting through some truly uninspired dub to find the true gems. The sort of stuff that’s flat, unimaginative and, worse, ungroovable. And Dubmatix’s Jesse makes some great dub.

In the works - new 7" for the IrieItes label outta Germany and tracks for the new Linval Thompson album due out in fall.- wrapping up recording on the first tune and heading back in for the 2nd. We'll also be posting some fresh and free music very soon... Enjoy! Peace Dubmatix Crew DOWNLOAD "PRESSURIZE ME" http://www.sendspace.com/file/y64a3u (320K MP3 Format - Virus Checked) ABOUT PRINCE BLANCO http://www.myspace.com/princeblanco "Prince Blanco is real ole school reggae - no guns, no bombs, no aggro - the kind of stuff we had while sporting afros!" Mad Professor (Ariwa Sounds, UK) Prince Blanco (aka Mark Matthews) is a happily married, proud dad and a musician whose sound has been described as 'alt-reggae' and 'classic reggae with a punk attitude'. Mark is a true 'island boy' born on the Isle Of Wight in southern England. He came of age in south London where his early musical influences were '70s British glam and pop groups, The Rolling Stones and classic Trojan reggae, rocksteady and ska, notably the 'Tighten Up' series of LPs. His first instrument was the drums which he began playing in bands at 14 years old, but by now, it was the punk/reggae 'fusion' of groups like The Clash and The Ruts and the 2 Tone sounds of The Specials and The Selecter that really got his attention. Eventually Mark found his way to Toronto, involving himself in the vibrant Canadian ska scene and becoming the drummer for popular Canadian ska/dub group The Skanksters. The band toured throughout the '90s and released the acclaimed CD, 'Dub Cookery' on the US-based Simmerdown label in 1997. When the group morphed into the dub-conscious collective Boogiewall Soundsystem in 2001, he stayed onboard as a drummer and vocalist and was heavily featured on their 2005 release 'Super My Own Band'. During his time with The Skanksters, Mark immersed himself in the local Toronto reggae scene. He also regularly travelled back to his UK reggae haunts in south and west London, intent on making the move to becoming a full-time singer. He studied hard and 're-discovered' such great vocalists as Gregory Isaacs, Ken Boothe and John Holt. However, it was on one of his visits to Jamaica in the mid-'90s where Prince Blanco, the singer, was truly born after being invited on stage to perform with legendary trombonist Vin Gordon and singer Jack Radics. Prince Blanco has since shared the stage with artists such as Michael Rose, Jazz Jamaica and Freddie McGregor, sang alongside 'Armagideon Man' Willi Williams, 'punky-reggae' legend Ari Up (The Slits) and rocked the mic with selector Jerry Dammers (The Specials). His first CD 'Prince Blanco & The Rocksteady All-Stars', an EP of reggae classics, was released in 2006. His latest CD 'Rebel Discotheque' was released in May 2008. He is currently working on a new single with Toronto producer Dubmatix as well as ongoing collaborations with DJ/producer Aram Scaram's Citizen Sound project, both who perform alongside Blanco as part of 'Dub Collective'. CBC Radio To Air Documentary About Jamaican Dub Music
Title: Jamaican Echoes Program: Inside The Music Air Date: June 29, 2008. Radio 2: 12PM Eastern. Radio 1: 8PM Eastern.
On June 29, 2008, tune in to Inside The Music on CBC Radio for Jamaican Echoes. This groundbreaking documentary traces the spread of dub from an accident in a Jamaican recording studio to the four corners of the Earth.
Host Lauren Speers speaks with historians, musicians and engineers about how dub, once the instrumental counterpart to reggae, has changed popular music around the world. Dub is the heart of remix culture. It has become an international music, yet its descendents continue to be inspired by its Jamaican innovations. Dub isn't just a musical remix, it's a social remix.
Jamaican Echoes features a continuous mix of music spanning five decades to bring its narrative and interviews to life. Jamaican Echoes is both entertaining and insightful in bringing this underappreciated but widely influential musical concept to a national audience.
Jamaican Echoes features interviews with: Adrian Sherwood (On-U Sound - Depeche Mode, Primal Scream, Lee Scratch Perry)
Bill Laswell (Global dub innovator - Fela Kuti, Motorhead, Herbie Hancock)
Twilight Circus (M Records - Michael Rose, Big Youth, Queen Ifrica)
Clifton Joseph (Dubzzz poet at large - CBC, Dub Poets Collective)
Dubmatix (Nu dub from Toronto - new disc features Alton Ellis, Sugar Minott)
Leroy Sibbles (All-time reggae legend! Heptones lead singer, Studio One bassist)
Michael Veal (Author of "Dub: Soundscapes And Shattered Songs In Jamaican Reggae")
Jamaican Echoes is based on a September 2007 article in Exclaim Magazine entitled "Dub Voyage <http://www.exclaim.ca/articles/research.aspx?csid1=114> ".
Host/Co-producer: Lauren "DJ Chocolate" Speers is a broadcaster and DJ based in Toronto. Lauren is a fountain of knowledge, experience and good vibes - as precise and articulate as a teacher of Music Business Administration at the International Academy of Art and Design as she is a host of CKLN's "Rebel Music". Her long running night "Chicks Dig It" was profoundly important in encouraging and raising the profile of many excellent female DJs in Toronto and parts beyond. She is the owner of Toronto's best known vinyl pressing and mastering operation, Scratch Free Press. Well known and respected in Canada's reggae and drum and bass communities, she is a forward-thinking host brimming with enthusiasm about the musical, technological and social implications of dub.
Writer/Producer/Editor: David Dacks is a journalist, DJ and broadcaster based in Toronto. As an editor of Exclaim Magazine he supervises that magazine's coverage of dub and reggae, and is a regular contributor to Eye Weekly, AOL Canada and Paste Magazine. As a DJ and musician, he has performed at WOMAD festivals, at raves, in clubs and lounges. David's obsession with dub stretches back some 25 years, and has been a central theme to his long running radio show on CIUT, "The Abstract Index"

Summer tour dates kick off in Western Canada in July at the Victoria Ska & Reggae Festival, Diversity Music Festival, Winnipeg Ska & Reggae Festival and includes stops in Nanaimo, Gabriola Island, Vancouver, Montreal, & Toronto. ABOUT THE NEW "RENEGADE ROCKER" RELEASE In August 2007, after spending 3 months touring Europe, Dubmatix returned to Canada and began work on his 3rd release Renegade Rocker by contacting some of the artists who influenced his sound as a youth, artists that created and defined what reggae is today. And in all cases, these pillars of reggae were more than enthusiastic and eager to collaborate! The result - Renegade Rocker - spans 4 decades of Jamaican musical culture from 60s Rocksteady grooves, to 70s King Tubby dub, conscious roots vibes to early 80s Dancehall, along with new updated modern electro-dub sounds. The disc includes reggae luminaries such as Grammy Award winning Michael Rose, 80s Dancehall icons Sugar Minott & Pinchers, Godfather of Rocksteady Alton Ellis, super-producer and 70s hitmaker Linval Thompson, the voice that ushered in the digital King Jammy reggae sound of the mid-80s and one the most versioned reggae songs of all time by Wayne "Sleng Teng" Smith, Willi Williams whose "Armagideon Time" anthem still resonates with reggae fans 30 years later , U-Roy prodigy and one of today's most revered Toasters Ranking Joe, alongside local homegrown Canadian talents Raffa Dean, Rasta Reuben, Ammoye and Kulcha Ites.
The album begins with Linval Thompson's opening plea of "Peace & Love" built strong with majestic horns and leads to the lightening-fast toasting of Ranking Joe on the appropriately titled Tornado. The cool and smooth groove of Easy Down features Black Uhuru's Michael Rose and launches into the explosive & thundering Burning Fire Dub. The condemnation of violence on Re-Action features Willi Williams brings us to the final and 16th track, the uptempo ragga/drum & bass song Push featuring one of Toronto's up-and-coming artists Ammoye.
Dubmatix is the solo musical project of Jesse King. Involved in music from his early childhood while on the road and in studios with musician and local Jazz-er father Bill King (whose own career spans 5 decades.) Bill King's roles have ranged from Musician, Arranger, Producer and Musical Director for some of music's most well known artists including Janis Joplin, Martha Reeves, Pointer Sisters and many more. In the early 70s - King was keyboardist with a local reggae group that included Everton "Pablo" Paul who immigrated from Jamaica to Toronto alongside one of reggae's most well-known writers, arrangers and keyboardists - Jackie Mittoo. It was this group and meeting with Paul that would define and shape the music that Dubmatix would produce years later. Paul provided the key to the city of dub by lending Dubmatix his first and life-shaping LP King Tubby meets Rockers Uptown in the 80s. Pablo "Everton" Paul is also one of the members of the late 60's reggae band "The Cougars" featuring Jay Douglas, Wayne McGhie, Jackie Mitoo - managed by the late Karl Mullings. These members appear on the Light In The Attic release "From Jamaica to Toronto" that stormed the retail and radio charts in 2006. In this small world of music - Dubmatix collaborated with Mullings' daughter and 2008 Juno Award Nominee Tanya Mullings on her latest release "Music Is My Life".
His previous critically-acclaimed releases include "Champion Sound Clash" (2004) and "Atomic Subsonic" (2006). To date, Dubmatix has been involved with some 20+ additional releases remixing and collaborating along with several compilations released across Europe, North America and Japan.
