Why I Love Craig’s List - Prime Example! NSFW
Current mood: amused
Category: Fashion, Style, Shopping
Now that Tamar and I are moving into a new home we really need those special touches to make the place a little more US. Craig's List, I find, is the perfect place to find what we need. See an example of one of my wonderful finds. It's a little out of our budget...maybe I should take up a collection? LMAO

I’m really on Myspace
Current mood: bored
Category: MySpace
Is anyone else?
I mean REALLY.....
I long for the days when not everyone on here was trying to sell something or get on reality TV.
I know there are a handful of you die hards out there who still participate like before...but the vast majority of the people on here seem so vacant and self involved...much like the real world I guess.

Advice for MySpace
Current mood: focused
Category: MySpace
A good friend and I were talking about things we would change about MySpace and how we had wished that there was a way to submit our ideas. I mean let's face it, who knows more about what users want than the users themselves?
The truth of the matter is that it's better than likely that no one who can do crap about it is going to read my blog, but if they did what would you suggest? Play along....if you had a hot line to Tom what would you tell him to add, change, fix, or take off of here?
(P.S. Anyone who says "I think it should be just like Disgrace Book" is missing the point and should be swiftly kicked in the privates)
Oh and because I know you're going to ask...here is my suggestion:
I think they need to take all of music content submitted by the bands and create a Pandora type setup (see pandora.com) where you select a band and it rotates in similar music (you click vote what should stay in the rotation). This will give all sorts of additional exposure to bands and allow the end user to listen without interruption...unlike now where you get 4-5 songs per page and have to leave to find more to listen to.
So tell me...what's your big idea?

This always seemed like the toughest question in the world to me. So tell me about you. Did you always know? Are you doing it? If no what's holding you back?

Your Favorite Words
Current mood: curious
Category: Life
Some co-workers and I were discussing words that we really like to use. I'm kind of a nerd when it comes to popping out a random $10 word here and there, and I was surprised to see that other people like to be just as verbose as I do.
What are some of your favorite words to use?

Be Water Wise!
Current mood: hopeful

I'll be buying my water bottle today! Anyone else have any good green tips? I'm tired of throwing plastic shit out. _______________________________
Tap vs. Bottled–What Should You Drink? Posted Mon, Jan 07, 2008, 1:10 pm PST - Pulled from Yahoo Food Glug, glug, glug--that's the sound a ginormous number of us make as we sip bottled water in our cars, at the gym, behind our desks. The sound you DON'T hear is the thwack of 60 million bottles a day being tossed into U.S. landfills, where they can take up to 1,000 years to biodegrade. If that's not enough to turn your conscience a brighter shade of green, add this: Producing those bottles burns through 1.5 million barrels of crude oil annually--enough fuel to keep 100,000 cars running for a year. Recycling helps but reusing is even better. Invest in a couple of portable, dishwasher-safe, stainless steel bottles like Klean Kanteens that won't leach nasty chemicals into your water. (Don't get into the habit of refilling the water bottle you just emptied; the polyethylene terephthalate it's made of breaks down with multiple usings.) 4 REASONS TO TURN ON THE TAP 1. Tap water is tested daily Under the Safe Drinking Water Act, water suppliers are required to provide an annual report on the quality of your local water and to test tap water daily. By comparison, the FDA examines bottled water only weekly, and consumers can't get the agency's results. You can easily get the lowdown on your state's drinking water quality at http://www.epa.gov/safewater/dwinfo/index.html 2. Tap water is a bargain Bottled water costs about 500 times more than tap. If you're into really fancy labels, up to 1,000 times more. 3. Tap water is a tooth saver It has more fluoride than bottled water, which helps prevent tooth decay. (Yes, you never outgrow your need for fluoride.) 4. Tap water is often tasty Some places (New York City for one) have delicious water, but if you don't love the flavor of yours, the solution is simple: Run your tap water through a Brita or Pur filter to remove most tastes and odors. The average home filter goes for $8.99 and produces the equivalent of 300 large (16.9 ounce) bottles of water. That's about $0.03 cents a bottle, versus the $1.25 or so you'd pay in a market. One last thing: Don't just think about making this switch; actually do it. Today. It does the world and you good. Plus, allowing nagging, unfinished tasks (known as NUTs) to go undone can make your RealAge 8 years older!

Yogurt Makes Me Bitter
Current mood: angsty
Category: Life
I live in a town where sooner or later everything changes. Some things for the better, some things for the worse. It can be said with little dispute that this city has a highly disposable attitude and often no sense of history or pride to hold it back.
I grew up in the Sherman Oaks section of the San Fernando Valley (then Van Nuys). Adjacent to our home was an estate that had been built for a silent film star (it was unceremoniously torn down and replaced with two modern houses and an apartment building). Right behind our house was a tiny house on a big piece of property owned by a little old lady (apartments there now too).
We used to go to Bob's Big Boy down on Van Nuys Boulevard (flattened years ago and replaced with a car dealership). When we were kids we would walk or ride our bikes to the local super market (now a post office) or maybe to the Sherman Oaks Galleria (it's still called the Galleria...but the original structure has been leveled and turned into a glorified food court).
Everything in L.A. changes...some for the better...some for the worse.
There is this little divey place on Ventura Boulevard (if you know the street you know how unlikely that statement is. This place has been around since 1972...a hot dog joint...with a large garish sign over what can best be described as a shack...it's a small place and if you didn't slow down to look you'd likely miss it.
The Weiner Factory is an institution. You walk in the door and you immediately feel like you're living in 1978. The walls are yellowed and have marker graffiti from years gone by. The air is delicious and familiar...one of the few enduring memories from my childhood. We have all changed...but since 1972 it has not. Oddly enough I guess in the back of my mind all of those other things going and coming didn't matter much to me...there was always this old standby. It's the only thing down home and small town about where I'm from.
On December 31st The Weiner Factory will close its doors forever. It will go the way of all the other things I have mentioned...and undoubtedly many more beyond that. However, I guess the point of me even mentioning it is made by what replaces it. After 35 years in business an LA institution is being booted out to be replaced by PINKBERRY. Yep you heard me. That faddish crap hole that makes phony yogurt.
L.A. disgusts me sometimes. Pink Berry can eat a dick.
Thankfully fond memories are not nearly so disposable. I really hope my kids get to experience at least one place in their childhood not owned by Starbucks or WalMart....but somehow I doubt they'll have that opportunity.

Getting Back
Current mood: contemplative
Category: Life
I miss my space...not Myspace...I'm on here right now. No I miss my space...that place in my brain where independent thinking occasionally occurs. It feels like a million years since I was last there...deep in thought and moving towards bigger answers.
We take these things for granted. Work, stress, obligation, time....it's all on you and you forget what it is about yourself that makes you want to go through it all. The part of you that matters most.
I'm tired of forgetting. Tired of not thinking even if it does make my life easier. It's not worth it, it's not who I really am. I've got to get back to my space, I've got to get back to me.
