mixmasters!

Just a quick blog because I haven't updated here in a loooong time.
Guess what we're doing? If you guessed "mixing at Hai Tex Studios" then you're right, that's exactly what we're doing right now! It's coming along pretty well and we're having to do it in little increments for sanitys sake and also our wallets sake. We're basically pushing all the "mud" off the album so you can hear what it should really sound like. So far so good. Consider yourself updated!
I'll post more if anything more exciting happens but that's the best I've got right now. I know. Those crazy Shapes! ;P

logo-a-go-go

This week Lance and I are doing the very last recording tracks we will do on this album. (Lord don't make me a liar!)

Then starts production and mixing. For real. Seriously. No, REALLY!

But while all this fun is going on in the sweltering cramped quarters of my apartment- I'm also working on a T SHIRT logo and design and our album cover art, etc. Lance and I figure that what we didn't spend in going to a fancy shmancy recording studio with Mr. Name as our recording engineer- we will spend on nice artwork to make the thing special. If it comes to you in saran wrap and tape then something happened to our funds.

Things are happening and we're hoping that Fall of 08 is the magic time for The Shapes.

a living dream

2 weeks ago I got to witness the magic that is Jack Bruce live. LIVE. Yes, it's the closest thing I'll see to Cream in my lifetime probably and I enjoyed every minute of it with one exception..it was at Nokia and seating and "Politician" DON'T mix. In fact I saw security hassling some people up front who wanted to get up and dance to "Sunshine of Your Love". The year is 2008 and you aren't allowed to dance at a rock concert?! Someone explain to me what has happened.

Bruce really stole the show, drawing the audience into his world instead of pandering to them and doing cheesy antics. His voice sounds just as good if not better and there needs no saying- his licks are still amazing. It was a real treat to see this icon that I've long admired in person.

Yes? No? Maybe So?

Just a quick update!

We've been playing with very awesome drummer Guyton who you may have seen in the company of The Frenz. So the Shapes are on track, working with Mark Ridlen (Lithium Xmas, Klogz, Scaraoke!) to produce the new debut album coming SOON. Really, really and truly!

We seek the beat!

We're on the hunt for a new drummer. As one chapter of our book ends so another one begins, maybe the plot will thicken? Everyone is on good terms with everyone. Everything has been mutual and sweet as pie. We wish our old drummer Chuck Spurlock much luck with his other pursuits and we're hot and itching to get back to getting the Shapes in shape.
Heres a bit what we're looking for, douchebags need not apply.

The Shapes are scouting for a new drummer. We're looking for someone seriously serious about being in a band and practicing and having a good time while doing it but also doing it full throttle.

what we're looking for in a drummer:
Good energy, willing to practice 1-2 times a week, a pretty open schedule for future gigs, willing to learn our back catalog of songs (which is not very large), gets along well with both of us (remaining Shapes), takes being in a band seriously and loves music and creating it. Being laidback, enthusiastic and patient are also nice traits. And being an AWESOME drummer would help you greatly.



*We're gearing up to release a cd and will be doing lots of cd release shows and shows in general soon. Prospective drummer will need to dedicate a good chunk of time to this.

warms my heart

It warms my heart to see that people still check on the blog to see if theres any news. We have some great friends and fans!
Well, we ARE in the last stages of recording tracks and soon it's all gonna get mixed down and sent off to the magic place where they make little discs happen. And none too soon because we're all ready to move on with new tunes, sounds and rhythms! Have I written this blog before? Ha! ;D
We've had to pass on some gigs here and there and for that we're sorry but getting this record out is top priority and now it seems we're racing the clock to get it done.
So....soon soon soon, we're hoping you still care by the time it comes out we just wanted to make it good for listening to many years to come from now.

laying low nowhere to go

Howdy Shapes blog readers! Since nothings been going on much I've not had the need to blog but decided to pop on and let you all know that YES we are still kicking around, YES the album is still in the oven and NO we have no gigs booked right now but that's cool cause we are giving this album thing our full concentration. We are back down to a trio and getting one of the last songs we need to complete a full length album down. Hope you all stick around for the results!
