Feathers Fly as The Sparrows Bust Up!

In the time honoured rock n' roll tradition The Sparrows have called it a day. We'd like to blame it on bizarre gardening accidents, a Japanese performance artist girlfriend exerting undue influence on the band or a band member choking on their own vomit … except the reality is that it comes down to musical differences and yes, it is entirely amicable. No, really. We're all still mates. People change, grow up, move on, get new ideas and it's a combination of all these things.

To all those who came to our shows, bought the records and helped us out along the way – thank you. We love youse all.

In particular we'd like to thank our families who have done a great job driving our gear home when one (or seven or eight!) too many drinks have been consumed, Rizzy, Nicola, Kaz, Mr. and Mrs. Lemmy, Loui, Lizzy, Craig and Finn @ Hot House, Jeff Saltzman and Brad, Harvey Russell, Cal @ Ding Dong, Steve and Dan from Weekender... we're sure there's more of you and it could probably go on forever but you know who you are!

We'll all be involved in new projects and bands and what not, as our love for music certainly is as strong as ever and we're looking forward to you seeing us on stage in our new ventures soon.

Stay a Myspace friend of The Sparrows and we'll keep you updated on what we all get up to! All band members can be contacted by their myspace sites (or facebook for some of you!) - it's not that hard to find us!

Thank you once again

And in case we don't see ya, Good Afternoon, Good Evening and Goodnight!

The Sparrows.

Secret Show

Hello Peoples

As a lot of you will know we haven't played a live show for some time now. (April 21 to be exact - coincidently the night that Australia's guitar god, Lobby Loyde passed away who was set to record a version of 4 Day Creep with us the following week). With the new CD in the bag, we'll be playing a warm up show at the Public Bar in North Melbourne on Thursday September 6 kicking off at 9pm followed by The Lazy Sons.

See you on the night!

Australia Day @ Ding Dong

Heavy gigging over the past 12 months has seen The Sparrows play to packed out venues up the East Coast of Australia, snaring spots at highly prestigious events such as the East Coast Blues and Roots and Apollo Bay Festivals as well as opening for INXS and Jimmy Barnes on their national tours. Garnering national groundswell as one of Australia's premier emerging young bands. 2006 also saw the release of their debut EP which earned them airplay on the likes of Triple J, Nova and countless regional stations across Australia, as well as travel to San Francisco to begin work with Producer Jeff Saltzman (The Killers) on their upcoming debut album. Often likened to rock 'n roll bands from the 60s and 70s such as the Rolling Stones, The Byrds and Humble Pie, The Sparrows bring their "true rock 'n roll" to the Ding Dong Lounge on Australia Day - Friday 26 th Jan W/ Jaime Robbie Reyne & The Paradise 3, The Lazy Sons and The Rye Catchers.

Album Plans & Frisco

So everyone keeps asking when the album is coming out. We keep telling you people sometime early next year but we have to start recording it first. Although I think getting everything organized is actually going to take longer than the recording process!

We are heading off to San Francisco on Sunday to begin the process of making our first album with producer Jeff Saltzman (The Killers, The Sounds). We'll be working out of his home studio where he did the Killers stuff during the day and working evenings, late into the night at a studio in Oakland.

Anyway there's not too much to tell until we get over there and see what we think. We'll be back in December as we've got some commitments back here. We are planning on getting heaps of photos and videos and shit so we can post some of them up on here or whatever. Oh and if we get our shit together we'll try and write some blogs for you guys too. Feel free to leave some comments and we'll do our best to get back to you!

Michael.
