Tea vs Coffee

Why you should STOP coffee and DRINK TEA instead:

To the average american, coffee is a daily habit. But little do they realize the implications of drinking this roasted bean...

Coffee is linked to heart disease, according to a study done by researchers at the European Society of Cardiology. Apparently it causes the arteries to harden, putting your heart under strain and raising your blood pressure. Not only that, but there are chemicals in coffee that are linked to heart disease and strokes. Not even filtered coffee can stop that.

Which is why you should switch to tea. According to John Weisburger, Ph.D., tea can not only reduce the risk of heart disease, but also according to studies done by the University of Cambridge School of Medicine, it can strengthen bones and prevent against osteoporosis in women. And there's a chance that it may help to prevent cancer, as well. Oh yes, and studies have shown that compounds in black tea attack bacteria causing gum disease and cavities. In fact, they can even "suppress growth and acid production of cavity-causing bacteria in dental plaque."

Dail OM - Create Time for Yourselves

Create Time For Self-Compassion

Being Gentle With Ourselves

During those times when our lives are filled with what seems to be constant change and
growth, it is important to remember that we need to be gentle with ourselves. Since it can be easy to use our energy to keep up with the momentum of our lives, we may not be aware of the fact that we are much more likely to run ourselves down.
When things seem to be moving quickly, it is especially essential that we make a point to
slow down and be gentle with ourselves.

It might be difficult to notice what is happening to us for we may be so caught up in the whirlwind of our lives that we lose sight of the direction in which things are heading. Being gentle with ourselves doesn't mean that we don't accomplish things. Instead it means that we honor ourselves on an ongoing basis and take care of the needs of our bodies.

This means different things to different people. For instance, it could mean having a session with a healer; taking a remedy, herbs, or vitamins; or getting extra sleep. Putting our energy into ourselves in this way helps create space for a more positive, loving, and accepting view of our lives. By setting the intention to do so, we will be more cognizant of our energy levels on a daily basis and more able to replenish them as needed.

The more we are able to treat our bodies with gentleness, the more tenderness and
compassion we will call forth into our lives.
Learning to understand and pay attention to what our self needs will in turn allow us to fill our lives with unlimited loving and healing energy and to truly take care of the things that mean the most to us

Why you should NOT add milk to your tea.

The European Heart Journal  has found that the protective effect that tea has on the cardiovascular system is totally wiped out by adding milk.

Their study showed that the culprit in milk is a group of proteins called caseins, which they found interacted with the tea to decrease the concentration of catechins in the beverage. Catechins are the flavonoids in tea that mainly contribute to its protection against cardiovascular disease.

It seems that not just the amount (5 cups of tea is recommended) helps achieve better heart health, but how you drink it matters, too.  Try the Creme Earl Grey, Aphrodisiac, or Spice Trader without milk. These are teas that tea drinkers would typically drink with milk, but ONO Tea is so delicious you can drink it without anything added!

T or F? Caffeine always produces the same effect.

FALSE.

While most people who drink hot beverages want the stimulating effect of caffeine, some people are intolerant to it. This intolerance is often due to the rapid absorption of caffeine into the body, which leads to increased blood flow and cardiovascular activity. Therefore, one of the biggest advantages of tea is that you can still have caffeine, but without the negative effects caused by drinking coffee. The polyphenols in tea actually slow the caffeine absorption process; therefore, you will feel the caffeine's effect later, but for a longer time. This is especially true for white, green and Oolong teas, and Chinese black teas.

In short, people with a low caffeine tolerance can drink tea without feeling the effects of the caffeine.

Tea Chick's Suggested tea:

On the other hand, because black teas from India, Africa and South America have high concentrations of theine and fewer polyphenols, the caffeine absorption process resembles that of coffee.

Beautiful SKIN - Radiant Beauty

Smoothing and Soothing

There's a particularly potent antioxidant known as EGCG that does all kinds of good things for skin. The best place to find it? True teas: black, green, or white (not herbal). Brew a teapot full every morning, so that sipping four to six cups throughout the day is a no-brainer.

Did you know? -
1 cup of white tea contains approximately 12 times as much antioxidants as fresh orange juice.

The skin doc's 1 pick: TEA

What it does: Gives your skin a healthy dose of EGCG, which is a great multi-tasker. EGCG puts a damper on inflammatory chemicals involved in acne and sun-related skin aging; it also helps prevent skin cancer; and it has a lion-tamer effect on tumor cells. What's more, tea contains L-theanine, a de-tensing amino acid -- and anything you can do to staunch the flow of the stress hormone cortisol helps keep collagen fibers intact.

Beautiful MIND- Tea May Slow Alzheimer’s Disease

Black, Green Tea May Slow Alzheimer's Disease

Finding May Lead to New Treatments, Says British Study
By Miranda Hitti
WebMD Health News

Developing a taste for black or green tea may delay Alzheimer's disease, new research shows.

A study from England's University of Newcastle upon Tyne shows that green and black teas may inhibit certain brain enzymes linked to Alzheimer's disease. The study's findings may lead to new therapeutic developments for dementia and Alzheimer's disease, which is estimated to affect 10 million people worldwide.

Coffee, in contrast, did not show any significant effects in the study.

Researchers including Edward Okello of the university's biology school pitted green tea, black tea, and coffee. They found that tea stops the activity of chemicals in the brain associated with the development of Alzheimer's disease. Symptoms of Alzheimer's disease occur when brain nerve cells that process information and memory degenerate and die. Abnormalities such as plaque and tangles proteins form on nerve cells.

The first brain chemical, acetylcholinesterase (AchE), breaks down one of the brain's chemical messengers that helps transport and process information -- called acetylcholine. A drop in acetylcholine, in areas of the brain associated with memory and learning, has been linked to Alzheimer's disease. Medications used to treat Alzheimer's disease work by inhibiting acetylcholinesterase. Aricept, Exelon, and Reminyl are examples of these medications.

The teas also stopped the activity of other chemicals known to be key in making plaques and tangles in the brains of Alzheimer's patients. The second chemical is called butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE). However, green tea also inhibited a third and final brain chemical called beta-secretase, which is also involved in brain protein deposits seen with Alzheimer's disease.

Don't let that alphabet soup of chemical names throw you off. Green tea counteracted all three chemicals. Black tea was also powerful in curbing the first two chemicals, but only green tea inhibited beta-secretase. The researchers also found that green tea continued to have its inhibitive effect for a week, whereas black tea's enzyme-inhibiting properties lasted for only one day.

Black and green tea both come from the same plant, which goes by the Latin name of Camellia sinensis. Their antioxidant effects have been noted in various studies. The difference between the two drinks is that black tea has been fermented, resulting in a change in taste and appearance.

The researchers don't know exactly how to explain tea's effects. In news reports, Okello says he knows of no evidence that Alzheimer's disease rates are lower in tea-drinking nations. Traditionally, green tea has been popular in Asian countries, while black tea is often associated with England.

The next step is identifying tea's key components. Tea isn't being proposed as the much-hoped-for cure for Alzheimer's disease; however, it might inspire new treatments to delay the disease if these findings are confirmed by more research.

Most tea drinkers are probably much more relaxed about preparing their tea than the researchers were. The scientists steeped the green tea for 45 minutes in freshly boiled water and prepared the black tea in boiled water for 30 minutes. The beverages were cooled to room temperature, centrifuged, and freeze-dried to capture every little detail.
