A mystery solved
Current mood: nostalgic
Throughtout the day, I play music in my head, often accompanied by quiet drumming with my fingertips. Doesn't everyone? The songs I hear are 99% percent readily identifiable...music I've recently listened to, well-known themes, etc. But there are always a few I can truly hear in my head in their entirety, and just not remember what the source is. I found out what one was today. Don't ask how, but I ended up watching a speedrun of the game Milon's Secret Castle, one of the many games Hudson Soft made for the NES(remember their little bee icon?). About 5 seconds after the start screen (when Milon enters the first castle), there's the music. Kinda similar to the underwater levels of Super Mario Bros. It's just weird because I rented this game once from People's News in Marietta, Ohio probably 18 years ago, and vaguely remember disliking it. But not horribly so. I've never played it since. Even almost forgot the name of it! So why do I remember this one little tune? Why do I even remember where I rented it from?! What other video game music is lurking in my head?

It finally happened...
Current mood: determined
...I'm building a new lamp, and in the process of trying out a circuit i guess i wired something wrong...long story short, the resulting electrical short blew the prongs off of the toggle switch I installed as the main power switch...I'd be in serious' fuckin' pain if it wasn't for my apartment's circuit breaker. Time to buy more books on electrical principle (good thing I work at a bookstore).

Oh Boyeee!
For those in Indy, my little spark plug book is being shown at the Broadripple arts center on Dec. 14th through February, I think. It's part of the student show. So come out and watch me be uncomfortable at the opening, K?

Little Brothers
Current mood: sad
I found out today, a week too late, that the hallowed Columbus, Ohio venue Little Brothers has closed. LBs was the site of my first 18 and up show, as well as numerous other awesome performances (DFA1979, Legendary Pink Dots, Dead Voices on Air, Jon Spencer, Six Finger Satellite, The Jesus Lizard, Rancid Yak Butter Tea Party...) I have a ton of memories... going there with my brother, friends, girlfriends, and everyone else in between. What a shame...Cols. has really lost a landmark.

Reading in decline
I work at a bookstore, so maybe I'm biased. Especially when it comes to articles like this.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/01/19/AR2007011901361.html?sub=AR
I remember being in high school and viewing the library as a novelty. It's scary now that information technology has reached such a fever pitch that librarians are more concerned with the management of digital media, rather than physical books. After reading this, I tried to remember the last time I used an actual card catalog. That was so fulfilling! Honestly, does doing a Google search have the same effect as finding the exact thing you wanted carefully printed on an ancient index card? Inefficiency has a place in this world.
