Koda~COMING HOME FROM VETS TODAY! yeah!
Current mood: bummed
Category: Pets and Animals

Koda will be coming home today from the vets. She's been there a little over a week. Reason is she was in a fight with my other dogs here. Not sure who but Im sure it wasent just one dog. I will soon find out when I bring her home who she's most afraid of ect. Ive made a serios mistake trusting a few dogs together playing. Other then a few small cuts and scrapes on 2, all the others are unmarked. I did not see what happened. I only seen the end results, I never even herd them. This has been a life changeing event for me really, because I never want anything like this to ever happen again. I took in Koda because her family had to find her somewhere to go in a hurry. She's a sweet goofy little girl, I was suposed to keep safe and failed. I have a few idea's on how this happened. I trusted them playing out side, having a good time running around. She will be ok, her spirit is fine she's back to her goofy self. She has been stitched up in a few places and has many bite marks all over. No one needs to beat me up for this, I can do that to myself thanks. I also relized that every dog that comes threw with scares dose not mean they were used for fighting. All dogs fight, I have other breeds here besides Pitbulls. This has changed the way I do things here and I'm getting help for each one of the fosters one at a time. Starting with Spence & Koda. Everyone else seems fine. I have 1 adopted leaving this weekend posibly another this week sometime. It will be alot easyer with less here. I'll be picking up Koda later today If you would like to help me with Koda's vet my paypal is tjustducki@aol.com I havent posted wanting help but I could use some. Her bill is over a 1000 as of yesterday. Ive already paid 500.00 She's at Windham Animal hosp. Windham NH 603-434 0346 under Kathi Taylor please don't bug this vet they are busy today. They know me well there Ive been there every day in the past 4 weeks between Scruffy (had HW), Stanley, Zara and Koda..I never have a over due balance there and hate to start one. Thanks for reading Kathi

beleave it or not she looks alot better then she did. She just want the bone I brought for her..She was mad I wouldent give it to her yet.

MEET SPENCE HE’S STARTING SCHOOL MONDAY
Current mood: breezy
Category: Pets and Animals

Yes! Spence is one of my fosters
Why am I asking for help for this? Because I have a huge vet bill for 1000+ dollers for Koda another rescue and this needs to start Asap and is just as important~
I love all my fosters like they were my own and I'm taking the time to bring Spence to training because I beleave it will save his life~
I beleave if he is adopted out as he is he could posibly be back with me or worse~ I beleave he has the drive to learn and maybe he can posibly be trusted again with the other dogs here~ To me this is as important then if A dog has heart worms or any other sickness~
After meeting with the trainer today and her herself wants to work with Spence, and is giving a discount for a rescued dog~ She thinks as I do that there is hope for this boy and he can be a more then great dog for adoption~
Thanks if you can help! You will be helping many by helping this one~

MEET SPENCE~Will be taking a 6-8 week training class here in NH.
With Julia at
furtunatek9. com He will learn basic to advanced one on one with foster mom and trainer. Spence loves to learn! He's a good boy with humans but has started to show a problem with other dogs. I think this will help him and other fosters he lives with and move on to a forever home.
Spence is 8-9 months old and in the last few weeks has grown from a puppy to a teen ager.
(You know how they can be?)
He has gotton along with everyone up until this last week when he relized he's not small anymore.
Spence has always been smart and loves to learn but as we all know the trainers teach the owners more then dogs will learn. This can be passed on to other fosters in the future ..If you can help this sweet pitty boy by helping we will make sure you see great end results.
Spence is in foster, a rescued pup for Pits and Rotts for live rescue.
Thanks
I WILL KEEP YOU UPDATED ON HOW CLASSES GO

McKamey Needs Help Immediately! Chattanooga, TN
Current mood: bummed
Category: Pets and Animals

From: Kerry Moyers-Horton <kerry@mckameyanimalcenter.org >

PERMISSION TO CROSSPOST!

The McKamey Animal Center in Chattanooga, TN has taken in over 1000 animals since we opened our doors on July 1st. While adoptions have been good, these numbers cannot compare to the many dogs and cats that are surrendered to us each and every day. Yes, there is a huge need in Chattanooga and we are here to help.
BUT WE CANNOT DO IT ALONE!  If you have space in your rescue program or know someone who can rescue or foster (local or not), please contact me immediately! I will be happy to walk you through our Center personally and introduce you to our furry friends. You can also view some of the many animals awaiting adoption here http://mckameyanimalcenter.org/, but this is only a few. We have many litters of kittens and puppies...some with moms and some who will need to be bottle fed. We have small dogs, large dogs, furry dogs, low-riders, all American varieties and purebreds. You name it...it is here. As for our feline friends, the same is true. Looking for a Himalayan, perhaps a Siamese or maybe you would rather choose the one (or two or three) who grabs your heart! We have a huge variety from which to choose.

If you come to visit, you will meet dogs like Honeychild, a Dachshund with the heart of gold. Her excitable temperament can hardly be contained in her 10 lb body.  Her wagging tail alerts her kennel mates of any approaching visitor as she wonders if this will be the day to meet her new mom or dad. Or maybe you¢re partial to dogs like Jenney, a 45 lbs Aussie mix, who lovingly cuddles and grooms her litter of puppies despite the barking and commotion going on all around her. This devoted mom rarely leaves their side. For the cat lovers, there is Elvis who obviously had some type of run in with pavement. Although the abrasions on his face are painful, his purr can be heard from across the room. Or maybe it¢s Dreamer who despite her malnourished condition, greets everyone with a warm nudge and whisker kiss. Please give them a chance at the life they so deserve!

WE ARE FULL! We have yet to euthanize for space, but we are getting close to that point. Our major need right now is medium and large dogs as well as mother dogs with litters, but we will accept help for any animal in the Center. We even have a couple of rabbits waiting for a warm cozy spot to call their own. Please help us keep our promise to the homeless animals here. We desperately need your help!

Every animal that enters our Center is vaccinated, dewormed and given a flea/tick preventative upon intake. Before leaving, he/she will also be spayed or neutered, heartworm or FeLV/FIV tested and microchipped. And you won¢t believe the low discount we offer to Rescue Partners!

Tell your family. Tell your friends. Tell everyone. Be part of the change toward animal welfare in Chattanooga!

213 E. William Thomason Byway
Leitchfield, KY  42754
Shelter hours: Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 7:30 to 1:30 (central time zone)

6-2-08 This lovely, charming, sweet girl came to us compliments of animal control. She had a cut down her tail and has been to the vet to see what treatment was needed. Right now we just have to use an antibiotic cream and bandage it until it heals. She was very fun while in the office for her pictures and videos. You can tell she just wants to snuggle and be loved. You would be doing this girl a huge favor if you would take her into your home and heart, and your payback would be threefold, at least.

Pet shelters for evacuees, including one at the fairgrounds in Shreveport, will open on Saturday. Bossier City said it will take overflows.

Shelter evacuation reports are available along hurricane evacuation routes. Information for evacuees is available at the Tourist Welcome Center at U.S. 65 and U.S. 84 in Vidalia; Tourist Welcome Center at I-20 west in Tallulah; Paragon Casino in Marksville; Sammy's Truck Stop on I-49 at Louisiana 115 near Bunkie; Med Express on U.S. 71 in Alexandria; LSU-Shreveport' s gym in Shreveport; Pickering High School on Lebleu Road in Leesville; and Mowad Civic Center, Fifth Avenue and 10th Street, one block off U.S. 165 in Oakdale.

Shelters would be set up at Hirsch Coliseum at the fairgrounds, the old Sam's Club on Jewella Avenue and the former Sports Mall off Interstate 20 in far west Shreveport.

Caddo Parish prisoners were at Hirsch today, unloading 5,000 crates that will be used to hold pets that would be evacuated.

For people who have their own transportation, shelters will be set up at LSU-Shreveport and Southern University-Shrevepo rt. Those with medical needs will go to the Bossier City Civic Center.

"Feels Like Home"

In your eyes I find the answers to my questions.

In your arms, yeah, I found the world I've waited for.

In your touch, I've found everything I ever needed.

I need nothing more.

Always dreamed of the day when
My dream would find me.

Now my dream's beside me.

You are in my life.

In your arms I know where I belong.

I've never known this feeling, oh,
But it feels like home.

In your eyes I know what I can be.

You opened up your heart to me.

And it Feels Like Home.

When I'm with you, baby,
It Feels Like Home.

All this time there was not much to believe in.

I kept my faith, yeah, that you were waiting there for me.

I searched this world.

And now my search is finally over.

I Found what I believed.

Always hoped for the day
When my heart would find you.

Now my heart's beside you.

You are in my life.

In my your arms I know where I belong.

I've never known this feeling, oh,
But it Feels Like Home.

In your eyes I know what I can be.

You've opened up your heart to me.

Oh, and it Feels Like Home.

It doesn't matter where I've been,
Or what I've been through.

'Cause I know I've been waiting
Every day of my life
To be with you, to be with you.

In your arms I know where I belong.

I've never known this feeling before,
But it Feels Like Home.

In your eyes I know what I can be.

You've opened up your heart to me, oh
And it Feels Like Home.

When I'm with you baby, it Feels Like Home.

When I'm with you baby, it Feels Like Home.

Feels Like Home, Feels Like Home,
Feels Like, Feels Like, Feels Like
Feels Like Home, Feels Like Home.

It Feels Like Home

ASPCA rescued dogs/cats from St John Parish AS & going to Dallas

Aug 31 The 24 dogs and 14 cats from St. John Parish Animal Shelter were taken to the Louisiana SPCA in New Orleans, where they will join animals there for transport to shelters in Texas. In addition, the ASPCA coordinated a transfer of animals from Acadia Parish, where 23 dogs and cats will likely soon be on their way to the Wild Animal Orphanage in San Antonio, Texas. Members of the ASPCA disaster response team are at the site of the Louisiana Mega Shelter in Shreveport, where more than 180 animals belonging to evacuees have arrived and are being cared for; homeless animals in shelters are being transferred to agencies outside of the areas at risk of the hurricane.
One of the ASPCA's disaster response trailers is also on site, and the ASPCA's partner agency, the Saranac Technical Rescue Team, is en route

They are due to arrive in Dallas where they will be put up for adoption. This was orchestrated through the LASPCA and took place on Thursday.
This information was provided by the shelter manager on duty at SJ on Thurs

RESCUE ALERT FROM NORTH SHORE ANIMAL LEAGUE AMERICA
Current mood: bummed
Category: Pets and Animals

MEL (IS A CERT EMERGENCY ANIMAL RESCUE SVS VOL )

Gustav Is On The Way
Dear Friends and Supporters,
Hurricane Gustav is rapidly approaching the U.S. and is expected to make landfall on the coast of Louisiana and Texas, Monday morning - even sooner than originally expected. Gustav is now rated a strong Category 3 hurricane, but expert opinions are mixed about whether the hurricane will be a Category 3 or Category 4 storm when it reaches the U.S.
Here's some important information that we wanted you to know:

WE'RE PREPARED FOR GUSTAV
The Animal League has dispatched our emergency rescue team, with two of our 40-foot Mobile Rescue Units and multiple rescue teams scheduled to arrive in the Hurricane Zone before Gustav hits.
We are working with our shelter partner, the Greater Birmingham Humane Society and many others, and will take a multi-pronged approach to our rescue efforts:
First, we are prepared to set-up a triage area on one our 40-foot Mobile Rescue Units to provide temporary shelter and emergency care to animals in need.

We plan to take animals from shelters in the Hurricane Zone to free up desperately needed space, so shelters and rescuers can accept even more animals displaced by Gustav (or either of the other two hurricanes that are on their way to the U.S.).

The Animal League will also remain in the Hurricane Zone, continue to monitor the situation and be ready to accept added displaced animals.
As with Hurricane Katrina rescue efforts, we expect to transport displaced animals out of the Hurricane Zone by mobile transport and airlift (as necessary).

ANIMAL LEAGUE'S ANIMAL RESCUE INFORMATION CENTER

We have launched the Animal League Rescue Information Center on our website so you, as a valued supporter, can use one source to access various types of information on Gustav and our rescue efforts, including:

A Rescuer's Blog - Notes from the Field: Our Senior Vice President of Operations and our mobile units will post information to our Rescue Information Center blog - and will report in on a very timely basis to keep you continuously updated on what's happening with rescue preparation and rescued animals in the Hurricane Zone. You can visit the blog here.

News Feeds & News Alerts: We'll be linking you to top news and weather sources, so you can get the latest updates on Gustav and the other hurricanes on the way. If you are not already on the list and live in the Tri-state area, please update your subscription to receive local Adoption and Rescue Alerts from us too.

THREE YEARS OF ON-GOING SUPPORT SINCE KATRINA
We wanted you to also know that North Shore Animal League America rescued over 1,600 cats and dogs within the days and weeks following Hurricane Katrina and Rita, via 44 ground transports and two airlifts. Over the past 3 years, our presence in the region continues to be felt through the on-going rescue of animals in the Louisiana Parishes. The Animal League has been accepting homeless animals from the region on virtually a monthly basis and maintains a partnership relationship with Companion Animal Network and the Katrina Lifeline program.

As the result of last week's puppy mill rescue in West Virginia and the dispatching of our emergency rescue team for Gustav, significant costs are being incurred and we are depending so much on the generosity of supporters such as you. Please make a generous contribution today so that the Animal League can continue our mission to rescue as many displaced animals as possible.

Yours truly,

J.John Stevenson
President, North Shore Animal League America
P.S. Please spread the word to your family and friends.
Knowledge is power, and we want the power to save as many lives as possible
