Tom's song "Collapsible Plans" will be presented on ABC's "October Road." Episode 211 is supposed to air on ABC, Monday the 18th @10:00. This is the first recorded version of the song done at studio 9, produced by Al Sgro and Will Golden. It has my special guest and solid friend Brett Dennen on vocals, Chris Lovejoy on drums, Fil Krohnengold on keys and Mr. Ben Peeler on lap steel. Hope it moves the scene swooshingly, enjoy! here's "Comfortable In Your Arms" from the new record, produced by Ben Harper. I play Upright bass and vibes, Ben plays backwards slide guitar and harmonium and Michael Jerome handles the drums. Thanks for listening to the 1st installment of "A Song A Month." Peace Out! T
The 1st gig I played with Drew, I broke his nose! We didn't get into a fight or anything. We were packing up the back of my Pathfinder after a show at the old Living Room (on Stanton and Allen) and as men do we were both trying to get the pieces of equipment to fit just right, like that video game Tetrus (sp?). Sure enough on my turn, Drew was close behind me checking it out, the way men do, I jostled a guitar and my elbow flew back and caught him in the nose. Then, as only Drew can do, he staggered a little and said jovially, "yep Tommy, you broke it." I gotta call three days later, as only Drew can do, saying, "thanks, you fixed my sinus problem of 15 years, I can breathe out of both nostrils now!"
Drew was the most solid a human being can be, both as a gentleman civilian and a hardworking talented musician. He made gigs better, he made the road better, he made beer better and he made you feel at home wherever you were. I will miss him dearly . . . .! tom
ps. he played with a lot of great groups, look up The Silos, Gingersol, Tandy, Graham Parker etc. (more to read about on his page or the Silos website). On my records, he played lap steel on "Old And In The Way" - a rip roaring solo and support - and on "Francie." and "Do You Do." He also played bass and sang back ups on "21st Of July." We also toured together along with Conrad Meissner as Graham Parker's back up band "The Twang Three." There is a great bootleg series released entitled "Yer Cowboy Boot" where you can hear Drew play lap steel, bass and sing beautiful back-ups. Listen to "Success" in particular.
Addendum: From Silos Website
It is with the greatest sadness that we inform you of the passing of Drew Glackin.
He was unaware of an overactive thyroid condition that led to severe heart damage. He was surrounded by family and friends during his final days and hours and we are all still in a state of shock and disbelief.
Drew was adored around the world and his larger than life spirit and contagious jovial energy touched everyone he met, everywhere he went. He was a musician of the highest talent and made his mark in countless bands, record albums, and many thousands of live performances. He will be sorely missed and the memories of his music, his great humor, and his magnanimous generosity of spirit and love will be with us forever.
Konrad, Rod and Walter.
