Disgruntled Spinster Seeking Curmudgeon
55, 5'9", 218 pounds, white hair (but balding), foul-mouthed, opinionated, chain-smoking, and lazy seeking 60+ male who's allergic to Viagra for, well, I don't know what. Maybe putting new hoses on the washer? Religion not an issue. Democrats need not reply.

feast or famine? It’s FEAST!
I haven't seen my beloved Delbert peform since last November at the Tater Jam. That is about to change.
10/17 Whittaker Theater, Harrisburg - 2 hours one-way - I might do it.
10/18 Rams Head Tavern, Annapolis - 1 hour away - I HAVE MY TICKET
10/31 Birchmere, Alexandria, VA - 2 hours away - I'll have a ticket tomorrow
11/08 The Sweet Potato Jam, Kinston, NC, 7 hours away - I'll have a ticket as soon as I get off my duff to talk to Mr. Hill.
And then * gasp * I'm thinking about the cruise in January. Maybe. Just maybe...

Lyle and Tommy, but no Delbert * whimper *
Yes, I have managed to see both Lyle Lovett and Tommy Castro perform this month. And I'll probably see John Hiatt and the Ageless Beauties very soon. But, sadly, no Delbert. I'm going to try to wrangle a trip to the House of Blues...wonder if I can talk my friend into a road trip...

Musings on the same ol’ set list
I am a big fan of live music. You never know what is going to happen. I quickly lose interest in artists that do not deliver. To me, that's one of the major differences between pros and the rest of us. Pros always get the job done, and well.
Now, some nights are good, some are great, and some are just plain magic. There's no telling what will happen on stage - and I like being there all the time, but those magic nights. mmm mmm mmm
Which brings me to the topic of this post. I have favorites, and I will go see them every time I can - even two, three nights in a row. I don't mind if the set is the same. No two performances are ever exactly the same. There are those who say, "That set is old. They need some new stuff." I do not agree.
The tunes on CDs never change, and we listen to them over and over and over. If a set list is working, why change it?

* YO, SL, K2T. Repeat from * to end of row
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaarn! I have discovered Alpaca. Catalina Chunky Baby Alpaca 2-ply yarn, to be precise. And to work it in the above Brioche stitch is heavenly. It's like making a garment from a cloud.
* swoon *

101.4
Oh, yes. Feeling pretty crummy. I started coughing yesterday and stayed home today. Since I have an elevated temperature tonight, I believe I will be home tomorrow as well.
The good new is that I have the perfect excuse to sleep as much as I want. And I will.

new dog, old trick - Miss Cricket
Current mood: awake
The vet charges 15 bucks to cut her nails. The groomer charges 10 bucks to bathe her and cuts the nails as part of the package. She went to the groomer on Thursday - I'm so frugal. She went to the vet on Monday and came home with a diagnosis of Kennel Cough to the tune of $44.50. So much for frugality.
She started coughing on Sunday. Yep, Kennel Cough has a three-day incubation. She woke me repeatedly Sunday night with it - to the point that I cried for her, she was so miserable. If you've never heard Kennel Cough, the video at the bottom of this page: http://www.thepetcenter.com/gen/kenc.html shows a poor dog suffering. The vet gave her doggie cough pills, and they suppress the cough, thank heavens. They also make her very loopy, so she's sleeping a lot. I can tell she's feeling better, though. I feel so bad. I didn't have her vaccinated for Bordatella because I was shortsighted. Who would take a chihuahua to a groomer, right? A couple of weeks after she gets through the antibiotics she's going back to the vet for the vaccine. The delay will help the vaccine work.
And I can't fault the groomer. This stuff is more contagious than a human cold virus, and once a dog gets over the coughing it can still spread it for weeks. I'll keep her isolated from other pups for a month or so to protect the other pups.
I'm going back to bed now.
This has been a public service message.

old dog, new trick
I went out this evening to hear a friend play, and I was knitting off and on all evening. My old woman life is creeping into my wild woman life. Uh oh.
I was actually trying to change my knitting style. I've always done this awkward yarn thing where I have to let go of one needle with every stitch. Tonight I found a video of the continental stitch where you never let go of anything, so I decided to try it. I'm working on that neckwarmer thing that no one will ever notice, so it was a good time to try to get the hang of a new style.
I can see where it will be a time saver in the long run, but right now it's a serious pain. I can't get the tension right on the yarn, and my hands keep cramping. I'm wondering why I'm doing this after 30 odd years of knitting. I guess I like the idea of knitting standing up.
Now, if I can just find a video of a continental purl...

Guess what I got for Christmas!
The flu! Yessiree - knocked the stuffin' outta me yesterday evening, and I'm sitting here nursing a 101 fever. But, I've got a fire in the fireplace, and enough hot tea to last a month. It's just me and the pets, anyway - so it's a good excuse to do NOTHING. Like I need an excuse.
Besides, it's the first time I've been warm in weeks.
