The New Polemics

I just got done reading my buddy Nathan's blog and, instead of posting an incredibly long comment, I decided it would be wise to use my own myspace page for something.  So here goes nothing.

There is an interesting strain of thought in Eastern Orthodoxy, I say strain because I'm not well versed enough to make a universal statement, that approaches the world as a sacrament, specifically the eucharist.  This might not seem like a big deal to protestants, who have long grown apathetic to having a God that transforms anything but people, but the Orthodox are transubstanialists.  So to phrase something like this for them is to actually believe in a real and fundamental reordering of what a thing is.  This might be wrong, but in this view the relationship between a person and God is a crucible through which the world is transformed.

The reason I bring this up is that there is a point we reach in faith in which we must decide what is false and what is true and these decisions have literally world transforming implications.  Do not think that this is some sort of zealous call to arms along the lines of a writ ordaining a crusade.  This is not a truth that is wielded like a weapon.  It is a reassurance that love and grace work through us in this world and that we persevere in the name of a God who is real.

Welcome to the jungle
Current mood: ambivolent

My computer is totally wrecked and isohunt is failing me.  If anyone has a lead on where I can find a copy of xp, I'd be very much obliged.  A better course of action, if you wanted to be my best friend, would be to buy me a computer though.  Nothing too fancy, just as long as it had an amd 64 in it.

Silent Hill

I just saw this movie last night and, suprisingly, I was able to fall asleep.  This isn't to say that the movie wasn't totally freaky, because it was abundantly so.  Rather, I think it was too freaky.  There was nothing uncanny about it; it was so outlandish that it detachted itself completely from reality and thus none o the monsters were likely to acost me in the shower or attack feet unprotected by sheets and blankets.
Would I recommend this movie?  Probably not.  Unless you want to see a woman halved by barbed wire from within.  But if you want to see that, get off my myspace page you sicko.  You're banned from the internet.

Me and Slobo

Today I had gelato with my unfortunately named friend Slobodan.  Slobodan is only 19 but he has gone grey prematurely and has a mother who insists on cutting his hair in the same, brushed back and puffed up style.  He is also a little chubbey.  None of these things in themselves in entirely bad, and don't seem to be at all related to why he gets punched in the face so much.  Today, at the gelato cart I said to him "Hey Slobodan, do you want some gelato?"  He said, "I could kill thousands for one!"  And then the vendor hit him in the face.  Wierd.
