Lots of websites collect personal information – some are just more obvious when doing it...
There are those sites that ask for personal information up front before granting the user access. Often, site visitors are asked for their name and e-mail address before gaining access. The Internet is a public place, so how anonymous are you? When you visit any web page, you leave traces of where you've been. Worse, if you share a computer, someone can see what you've been up to online in just a few clicks.
But there is a way to maintain your privacy through erasing the digital footprints that remain after you close your browser.
What's important???
When you want to cover your online tracks, consider removing the following:
browser histories, cookies, cache files, AutoComplete information, e-mail trash, and log files created by chat programs and your internet connection.
You can delete these items yourself, or install a program to do it for you.
Here are the 8 best ways to cover your online tracks:
1. Remove Most Recently Used (MRU) list
Most programs keep an MRU list showing the last used items. The most recently opened documents list is one of the ones you might be interested in, as it shows the last documents you've opened. You can remove or clear the list in one of several ways.
In Windows XP, you can right-click on the Start Menu, choose Properties > Start Menu > Customize > Advanced > Clear List. You can then uncheck "List my most recently opened documents" to prevent it from keeping a list in the future. Another method would be to manually remove it from the registry. Any time you tweak the registry, you run the risk of damaging your system so do so at your own risk.
If you want to remove the MRU from the registry, the key is found at HKCU..Software..Microsoft..Windows..CurrentVersion..Explorer and then remove the key for "Recent Docs". Again, back up your registry before you make any changes, there is always the risk of damage to your system.
2. Your identity
Most websites you visit log your IP address and activities, including the pages you view, the files you download, and the transactions you make. Your IP is also recorded in e-mail headers, discussion boards and mail servers. If you really want to keep your IP information private, you can install software that masks your IP, such as MMIP or Anonymous IP.
3. Cookies
Leaving a trail of crumbs with your cookies? Cookies make it easier for companies to identify visitors to their site and can be programmed to track your movements as you flit from site to site. Cookies allow websites or marketing networks to create a profile of you based on the information you have provided and your browsing patterns, and before you know it, ads are popping up on your screen. To clear them, go to your internet options and clear the cookies periodically.
4. The Cache
Empty the cache, also known as the Temporary Internet Files in Internet Explorer. The folder contains previously visited web pages and images, allowing anyone to click a link and see where you've been.
To clear it:
- In Internet Explorer- Choose Tools > Internet Options and click Delete Files.
- For Firefox or Netscape Choose Tools > Options, pick Privacy and click the Clear button next to Cache.
- To avoid doing this every time you surf the internet, you can disable the cache so nothing is documented.
5. Turn off AutoComplete
People can also detect where you've been if you have AutoComplete switched on. How do you know if it's active? Type a few letters of a URL into your web browser and you'll see previous entries of other searches appear. To turn it off, go to your Internet Options tab and navigate to the option that allows you to turn off AutoComplete.
6. Take out the trash
Keep the trash from getting into your inbox. Your email provider may have anti-spam software to screen spam for you. You can filter the trash by installing a program that filters out spam automatically.
Sometimes, it's ok to keep secrets! Obviously, the best way to maintain your privacy is to use your own common sense, but pair that with a few good practices and you're well on your way.
7. Clear Toolbar Data
If you use the Google toolbar, or Yahoo, Alexa, or any of the thousand other browser toolbars out there, make sure you clear the search data there as well. If not, when someone types something into the toolbar's search area, it brings up your history which shows things you've searched on before that begin with the same letter or same word.
Clearing the toolbar will vary from one to another, but in Google's toolbar for example, you'd click on the search box drop down and click "clear history".
8. Anonymous Proxies
If you are ultra-concerned with privacy, you can browse the Internet through anonymous proxy servers. An anonymous proxy strips off your identifying information and replaces it with bogus information, so when you visit a website, it doesn't show your IP address. While this is again one of those things sounds great in theory, most of the free anonymous proxy servers are painfully slow and will make surfing too frustrating for most. The option is there however, for people who absolutely need to ensure their tracks are covered.

Oklahoma declares Sovereignty
June 20, 2008
The House of Representatives and the Senate of Oklahoma have adopted a resolution claiming sovereignty of the state.
The legislators refer to the Tenth Amendment of the US Constitution which reads "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people".
The resolution says "the states are demonstrably treated as agents of the federal government" and point out other violations of the Tenth Amendment.
Therefore, the Oklahoma Congressional Delegation demands that the federal government cease mandates "that are beyond the scope of its constitutionally delegated powers".
The resolution has been sent to the US President, both chambers of the country's Congress, as well as to the heads of each state's legislatures.

The neighbouring city, Srinigar - summer capital of the states of Jammu and Kashmir - is occupied by half a million Indian troops.
Kashmir is divided through the stunning Himalayas. The British colonial rulers used to call this the happy valley. Now, it's become a valley of fear. Fear of the Indian soldiers, fear of the Muslim rebels. Both sides commit atrocities, Both create refugees, Both have Nuclear weapons...

India Map Distortion Jammu & Kashmir Map Controversy
Anti-India agencies, CIA, CNN & BBC chopped off Kashmir from map of India!
CIA - India Map
CIA's map: Northern Kashmir is shown cut off from the state and the territory forming part of Pakistan and China. In the 1962 war, China illegally occupied "Aksai Chin", the land rightfully belonging to India. Here CIA has referred to it as 'Indian claim'.
CNN - India Map
CNN's map: CNN has shown the entire state of Jammu and Kashmir as 'Disputed'. This defies the partition of India and Pakistan in accordance with the 'Indian Independence Act of 1st July 1947, passed by the British Parliament.
BBC - India Map
BBC's map: Northern Kashmir is termed as "Pakistani Kashmir". This land is well-knowned as Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK). But BBC has called it as "Pakistani" ie. belonging to Pakistan. Legally complete Jammu and Kashmir State belongs to India. Also BBC is silent about China occupied Kashmir.
India Government - Map
Indian Government Map: Indian Government map shows complete state of Jammu and Kashmir as part of India with distinct borders. This version is supposed to be official. Now it's Indian Government's duty to clarify about CIA, CNN and BBC versions of Indian map.
Dear Friends, Take a close look at the maps of Bharat (India) shown on the websites of CIA, CNN and BBC. Is this the true map of the state of Kashmir and the country, which you have learnt, visited since your schooldays?
The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is an intelligence agency of the United States Government, responsible for obtaining and analyzing information about foreign governments, corporations, and individuals, and reporting such information to the various branches of the Government.
CNN is America's No. 1 cable news network and world-renowned news agency. The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is the largest publicly-funded radio and television broadcasting corporation of the United Kingdom. They have deliberately cut off Kashmir from the rest of India and offered it to Pakistan and China.
CIA has published a 'The World Factbook' of the nations of the world. The distorted map of India as shown in this protest campaign is represented in this book. Most of the world's famous websites, search engines universities like Texas etc refer to this map as a "legal" map of India. Almost 90% of the maps of India available around the world reflect this illegal and wrong version.
The partition of India and Pakistan occurred in accordance with the 'Indian Independence Act' passed by the British Parliament on 1st July 1947.
There has been no alteration to the international borders set up in 1947 till date.

Nonviolent resistance (or nonviolent action) is the practice of applying power to achieve socio-political goals through symbolic protests, economic or political noncooperation, civil disobedience and other methods, without using violence. It can be summed up in the words of Mahathma Gandhi, "An Eye for an Eye makes the whole world blind".
Passive resistance is a variety of nonviolent resistance, and is a term sometimes used imprecisely as a synonym. It implies resistance by inertia or non-energetic compliance, as opposed to resistance by active antagonism. Satyagraha is a refined variety of nonviolent resistance developed by Mohandas Gandhi.
Like other strategies for social change, nonviolent action can appear in various forms and degrees. It may include, for example, such varied forms as information warfare, protest art, protest music and poetry, community education and consiousness raising lobbying, tax resistance, boycotts or sanctions, legal/diplomatic wrestling, material sabotage, underground railroads, principled refusal of awards/honours, picketing, vigiling, leafletting, and/or general strikes.
Some scholars of nonviolence, arguing that many movements have pragmatically adopted the methods of nonviolent action as an effective way to achieve social or political goals, distinguish the methods of nonviolent action from the moral stance of nonviolence or non-harm towards others.
Chronicles the recurring patterns of disenfranchisement witnessed from 2000 to 2004 while following the story of Georgia Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, who not only took an active role in investigating these election debacles but also found herself in the middle of one after publicly questioning the Bush Administration about the 9-11 terrorist attacks.

Incredible Firefox Keyboard Shortcuts Which You Probably Don't Know About
As my search for methods to increase my browsing productivity continues, I have come across some excellent keyboard shortcuts for Firefox (my preferred browser) which I will discuss here .
I am sure you'll benefit from it if you use Firefox as your browser .
if you do not ... you should
1: Automatically complete .org and .net addresses Yes, we know that if we type 'google' in the address bar and press Ctrl+Enter it directly goes to www.google.com . But what about .org and .net addresses? . In Firefox, Shift+Enter takes you to .net and Ctrl+Shift+Enter takes you to .org addresses automatically . So if you wanna go to Problogger , just type the word in firefox address bar and press Shift+Enter .
2: Alt + D You can use this to navigate directly to the browser address bar of firefox. Very useful.
3: Ctrl+T and Ctrl+Shift+T Ctrl+T helps you to open a new tab and Ctrl+Shift+T reopens the last closed tab. This comes quite handy in case you accidently close a tab. Another way to do this would be go to History -> Recently closed tabs.
4: Alt+Enter This can be an extremely useful shortcut. It automatically opens a website in another tab when you highlight it in the autocomplete list. For example you want to go to Facebook and you start typing www.face…, in the address bar and it starts showing the list below. You just need to use the down arrow key to highlight the selection (facebook.com in this case ) and press Alt+Enter so that it opens in a new tab.
5: Use of Delete Key The Delete key can be pretty useful because it helps you delete specific addresses in browser history or autocomplete forms. For example in the diagram below, when I type 'a' in google search I get 3 entries . If I want to delete the 2nd entry from autocomplete history , I'll just point to it and press Delete key . Simple, isn't it .
6: Ctrl+Tab Ctrl+tab helps you to navigate between different firefox tabs quite easily.
7: Ctrl+[1,2….9] Ctrl+tab can help you navigate alternate tabs but if you are a heavy tab user like me and want to go to a specific tab then just use Ctrl+corresponding tab number. Ex:To go to the 3rd tab use Ctrl+3 .
8: Spacebar and Shift+Spacebar OR PageDown and PageUp Spacebar or PageDown key scrolls down the webpage you're on and Shift+Spacebar or PageUp scrolls up the webpage you're on .
9: The Middle Mouse Button This is not a keyboard shortcut but it is an excellent shortcut . Just point to a link anywhere on a webpage and press the middle mouse(scroll) button . It opens the page in a new tab .
I hope these shortcuts will enhance your browsing productivity with Firefox .
Do you know about other interesting shortcuts which I may have missed ?
