Keser, Néøsyn, Sugar Skull & My Devices @ Blackfriars 05.09.08 Preview
Current mood: calm

Like you favourite weekend tipple Tronic returns full bodied and packing plenty of punch, with a stella gathering of electronic musicianship. Celtic connections are apparent, with Edinburgh based artists joining forces with those from the West in a night where Tronic once again bring together new forms and unique styles of electronic music. A night of various production you might say..

Keser (Alex Tronic records)

Keser is no stranger to TRONIC, since supporting Christ. [Benbecula Records] back in March 2007, to a packed 13th Note basement. Since then Keser has been generating further more attention and recently quite fittingly played alongside the mighty Ulrich Schnauss at The Vodoo Rooms in Edinburgh. A testament to the talent Kevan possess as a producer and musician.

With a new management team pushing him and top eagerly awaited 2nd album nearing completion, Keser is certainly making waves through the post-rock ambient electronica scene.

Signed to Edinburgh's very own Alex Tronic Records, good friends of TRONIC, Keser and ATR have managed to carve out a successful niche in the world of ambient electronica.

The band's style contains haunting melodies and heavy 909 kicks used to innovative effect. Kevan Whitely has a natural ability on guitar, matched with the deep bass lines of Gavin Dick, together give an atmospheric wall of sound just waiting to wash over you in an emotional mix of sheer elatedness, right through to a dark undertow subtly weaving throughout the music.

néøsyn

It has been a while in coming and after only a handful of gigs a few years back, Tronic can now proudly present the exclusive trio live that are Neosyn.

Fronted by Japanese electronic artist Chikuma Tsuboi, this is a collaboration of percussion, Celtic strings and digitalism.

"Neosyn look like humans but they are fermented soy beans.  Talking of fermented soy beans, put some on oatcakes and you have our sound, a bit of Japan and a bit of Scotland mixed in a way that should taste good, but you never know until you try.  Drums,  Fiddle & Laptop"

A rare outing for the band, catch them live in Blackfriar's infamous basement.

Sugar Skull (aka Andy Glitch)

Sugar Skull, alias name of Andy Glitch is a title used to possibly represent his more recent stylised underground sound he has been creating. An artist that has been making electronic tunage for a number of years now, he has established himself as being one of Edinburgh's pioneering dance heads.

Also one of the men behind the capitals newest alternative electronica nights 'Wonky Wallpaper', Glitch is a dj and producer, forward thinking and bursting with life in his live sets, designed to take you on the ultimate electro trip. Prepare for the sugar rush that is Andy Glitch live; here's what's been said:

"This guy is the Jarvis Cocker, Russell Brand & Mick Jagger of electronic music, all rolled into one big love ball"

Look out for 'Sugar Skull records' creating sound waves near you very soon!

My Devices

My Devices is the solo project spawned from Tronic veterans Modifier. Creator Chris Shelswell takes the sounds of IDM, Glitch, Techno, House and even Jazz, mixing them up into one big bowl of dancie experimental goodness.

As a member of Modifier Chris is no stranger to the live scene, but this will be his inaugural live showing under his solo project as My Devices. Hardened Tronic fans have already touted this solo set to be one they cannot miss and manager of Alex Tronic Records has also praised his 3 track Demo doing the rounds, stating it was one of the better demos that has come his way recently as label manager.

This is Intelligent Dance Music for the masses, you simply cant miss it...

MOTHBOY

LAN FORMATIQUE

DETRITUS

DELTASON (DJ)

WISP (Rephlex)

Recently signed to the legendary Rephlex Records, with hotly awaited new album, "The Shimmering Hour", due for release soon, Wisp, aka Reid Dunn, will be bringing his own brand of warped beats and inventive electronica from Niagara Falls, New York for a tour of the UK and Europe this summer. Following on from live shows at The Bangface Weekender and Rephlex's own Braindance club, Tronic are excited to have one of IDM's freshest talents play Glasgow for the first time.

For a taster of what to expect, check out his recent release on Terminal Dusk Records – "Building Dragons". Six tracks of electronic genius in the mould of such giants as Aphex Twin, u-ziq and Squarepusher, Wisp covers a range of styles from drum n bass, IDM and lush ambient melodies. Highlight of the record is the mind blowing "The Bard", complete with medieval monk choir and some full on expertly executed beats.

Also, look out for the extensive back catalogue of mp3 releases from various netlabels such as Sublight Records and Earstroke Records, with many of his older releases available as free downloads.

For fans of electronica which blends calm hypnotic melodies with some of the most inventive drum and music programming put on record, Wisp is one not to be missed.

MOTHBOY

Bristol based grimy bass boy, makes a rare Scottish appearance, as part of LAN send off and to coincide with fresh studio releases.

A talented electronic producer whos style can wickedly vary between IDM, electro and hip hop influenced break beats.

A busy bee in the studio too with various releases imminent, most recent a collab with 'Startslow' entitled  'Annoyed' 3 EP on Disco r.Dance Records and a showing on electronic compilation Some bizarre. Not to mention his own 12" bass heavy 4 tracker due to hit many a dance floor later in the summer.

Be moved by the Moth – check him out live!

LAN FORMATIQUE

Popular Edinburgh based artist bids farewell to these Scottish shores as this will be Lan Formatique's final gig before moving to Seattle.

Possessing an incredibly warm and powerful electronic sound, shoegazing ambience can be sometimes instantly shattered by crunching guitar riffs, while digital percussion takes you to the dance floor. Lan's sound will be the perfect accompaniment to headliner Wisp with his intelligently designed soundscapes and evolving compositions.

With past releases from the likes of U-Cover and Digilog these have helped expose his work to a world wide audience. Lan's latest album, the appropriately named "The Sadness of Distances" looks to have an imminent release this year through an indie label (Lan has been keeping quiet as to who the label is!)

It likely to be an emotional set for Lan formatique, so come along and soak up the atmosphere and enjoy his final live performance with Tronic.

DETRITUS

Part of the 'Ad Noiseam' label, an artists who could quite easily write the score of the ultimate future sci fi horror epic. Specialised styles include Industrial, down tempo and drum n bass.

Check out his full album releases on Ad Noiseam: 'Fractured' & 'Origin'

TRONIC presents Christ. Dextro Araya Satellite Dub + Herb djs
Current mood: bouncy
Category: Music

This will be the second coming of Christ. to Tronic, after his glorious
appearance in the spring of 2007. Christ.'s talent for gliding intimate
analogue synth sounds over delicate broken beats amid lush
soundscapes and haunting vocal samples has established him as an
Eno-esque downtempo master. Music beautifully simple and organic,
very much outside the confines of modern electronica.

Like the prodigal son, Dextro returns to Glasgow in July to join Christ,
Araya and The Lava Experiments in a night showcasing the best of
Scottish electronic.

A night of live music not to be missed.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Christ.....

After collaboration in the 1990s with Boards of Canada, Christ. made his personal debut with the 'Pylonesque' EP in 2002. ..T..his was followed in 2003 by the full-length album 'Metamorphic Reproduction Miracle'.  ..T..hese releases resulted in Christ. receiving wide exposure on the electronic circuit, with a touring schedule taking him around Europe and ....Japan.....  He also gained the honour of performing at the BBC's Maida Vale studios in 2003 for the late and legendary John Peel.

After two further EP releases - 2005's 'Seeing And Doing' and 2007's 'Bike' - the second Christ. album, 2007's 'Blue Shift Emissions', continued and expanded the themes of his music: dense, lingering, bassy atmospherics and sharp percussion constraining warm melodies - sometimes beatifully simple, sometimes beatifully twisted - and masking a wealth of hidden subtlety, drifting and wandering in its own oblivious way.  ..T..he architecture of such music is shared by many artists, but with Christ. everything seems - paradoxically - more richly structured and less deliberate.

The music of Christ. is beautifully simple and organic, very much outside the confines of modern electronica.  ..T..his live appearance is one not to be missed.....

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dextro......

Dextro - Glasgow's own Ewan MacKenzie - will also be making his second appearance at ..T..ronic.  His debut solo album, 2007's 'Consequence Music', was built on the experience of a number of previous EPs and is an evocative and inventive collection.  Downtempo electronica, shimmering psychadelic guitars and walls of orchestrated sound are fused into a coherent and compelling whole - which at times is epic and utterly unpredictable.....

Specialising in percussion, and involved with another musical project in the field of experimental heavy metal, ..Dextro.. perhaps approaches electronic composition from a different perspective than contemporaries such as Nathan Fake or Ulrich Schnauss.  However, the results of his labours draw favourable comparisons with any shoegazers out there. Finely-instrumented layers of delicate analogue synth melodies and colourful soundscapes are driven along by dark undercurrents and solid rhythms.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Araya....

Araya is the solo work of ..Inverness.. born Keir MacCulloch and is the newest kid on the Benbecula block. A keen musician involved in many bands and projects over the last few years, Keir is now firmly focused on this his solo project and has managed to create a truly unique sound.

Araya has taken his music to the live circuit supporting established names such as The Orb, and Silicone Soul and involvement with festivals such as GoNorth 2007,Spectrum Fest and a slot at the prestigious Benbecula Records showcase night, has helped the artist become one of ....Scotland....'s most exciting new electronic sounds.

Melodic delicate sounds, transformed into a serious of glitch and breaks possessing as much energy as emotion, this is a chap already making a name for himself from Inverness to Edinburgh and now Glasgow. Go see him.....

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Satellite Dub....

Satellite Dub steps in to take the slot left by The Lava Experiements. Craig aka Satellite Dub is a TRONIC regular with a few outings under his belt.

A man making waves on Glasgows newest label Antimatter (alongside The Lava Experiements). Craig is enjoying some well deserved success. Touted throughout the Industry as an artist to watch out for, Satellite Dub has proven that Electronic music is not just a niche genre. He brings it to the masses with style.

Also keep an eye out for his gig at Bar Bloc on July 24th with Binary Zero and i am blip.

TRONIC June 6th @ Blackfriars (VIDEO NOW ADDED) - A little write up..
Current mood: thoughtful

TRONIC - Live in June:

Being Rockness weekend, Tronic will be acting as a festival warm up, bringing together the sounds of Inverness and Glasgow in an electro clash of big beats, breaks and emotronic. This is a night where the live electronic will be flowing like liquid energy

The mighty Modifier are that perfect underground radio station that you've just found, playing the style of electronic dance music that instantly has you hooked.

Sean Kerwin and Chris Shelswell together live, are an accomplished unit and know exactly what's required to grab your attention. With invites from some of the biggest electronic festivals in Europe already starting to happen, this is sure to be the year that Modifier stamp their mark as one of Glasgow's best live electronic acts.

"With their mastered studio sound, the guys are now well equipped and ready to perform as a live unit and their big beat digitalism will have you blown away. Possessing relentless enthusiasm and stacks of energy, get ready for the duo hitting the sub city club scene and beyond. "

www.myspace.com/modifier

www.modifier.tv

Tronic rave scensters Emotiquon will be flying in from the sunny Ayrshire coast and we just had to get the electric duo back, after a very well received debut Tronic gig last December. Although this time, having the spoils of a later license and being able to play with the wee small hours.

The guys have already been making a name for themselves on the electronic scene with a short video of their live set from The Altitude Festival featured on Ministry Of Sound TV. This and unrivalled enthusiasm are helping the band make their unique mark on the electronic community, winning countless friends with their cheeky style of dirty electro and techno.

".....taking a large pair of techno clown trousers and force them deeply into the head of Dr Alex Paterson, whilst simultaneously a huge reggae soundsystem plays "Ghost Town" (backwards) by The Specials, systematically losing and regaining generator power. "  - CHEEKBONE

So pay attention and get yourself down to the basement to check out wonderfully fun live sounds, designed to put a smile on your face..

http://www.myspace.com/emotiquon

The strong ever evolving electronic scene in Inverness will be represented by two artists at the heart of it, Joystick Disco and Plexus.

Proudly presenting from the banks of the Ness, Joystick Disco who's 80's style of raunchy hip hop influenced electro is like an industrial high power strobe light going off! Slots along side Octogen and Slam in Inverness have seen the joy boy grow in popularity and his ghetto disco beats will instantly have your adidas bouncing onto the dance floor.

www.myspace.com/joystickdiscoteque

Down-tempo, delicate lush electronic arrangements creating the perfect ambience, yet this is only part of an artist, who can then turn his hand a cracking, uber-cool electro! Plucked from the North and playing Glasgow for the first time, Plexus live at Tronic is a must see.

Moulding the night will be musical maestro and talented dj Kirsty Munro, lending her expert ears to the tronic cause and the visual tag team of Hurden Husket & Theseareideals (Russ & Tom) of course, will be lending their expert eyes.

MARCO BERNARDI (Octogen) Live - May 2nd (Preview)
Current mood: thoughtful

MARCO BERNARDI  (Octogen)

Tronic now moves into its second month at the nights new Blackfriars residency with one of Glasgow's best, Marco Bernardi taking the reigns for May 2nd. A night of Electro, Glitch and Techno bringing you a kaleidoscope of electronica to your ears.

A charismatic and hugely talented Glasgow producer, Marco Bernardi is man of the moment under Soma and instantly made a name for himself by winning 'DJ Mag Best album of the year' award 2007. Under Octogen, Marco has perfected the art of deep warm melodic techno and will have his new single 'The Emperors Apprentice' released on May 5th. (Monday after Tronic) with an album to follow in the near future.

Marco Bernardi at Tronic, may see a slightly harder edge to the timeless electronic the man creates and delivers live. A set sure to have a melodic start, effortlessly building into a roaring electro experience.

"Marco Bernardi is widely recognised as one of the most forward thinking
electronic producers around at the moment, his releases on Clone, Frustrated
Funk and Emoticon have displayed his depth and mastery of his machines. From
delicate electronica to razor-sharp electro via pure Detroit techno, Marco's
productions are superbly crafted and have a radiance that sets them above
the normal"  Soma

BINARY ZERO

Bionic beats machine 'Binary Zero' has recently been signed to Alex Tronic Records and will be revealing new material from his up and coming album release. Expect a different side to the man once known for purveying industrial techno. His sounds now are a little more emotive, but still pushing the boundaries of experimental dance music.

Be sure to catch the political electronic poet in full flow..

TWITCHYWU

A local producer, this galas Glaswegian captures the sound of the city in his smooth soulful electro and techno. Signed to 'Manuscript Records' in Ukraine, he's a man certain to make a name for himself very soon and will be the perfect warm up to Octogen on the night. Using two laptops along side lots of effects when playing live, this creature of the night is sure to mash up plenty electronic beats and more. Lovely stuff.

AEONS

Sounds that flow like lava, his atmospheric electronic shanties have you hooked. Tronic are chuffed to have this talented chap back playing live for us, doing what he does best, fusing electro and techno while generating enough energy to power a small town!
