2005

2005/06 – American Idol was #1 on FOX Tuesday, third year running.

Note: Any BOLD shows were cancelled in 2005 season; Everwood was cancelled in the fourth season.

Anniversary:

Access Hollywood celebrated ten years in syndication.

7th Heaven celebrated ten years on WB.

Dateline NBC celebrated fifteen years on NBC.

Entertainment Tonight celebrated twenty–five years in syndication.

Late Night celebrated twenty–five years on NBC.

Announcement:

After eleven long years, WB and UPN finally call it quits. Then again, they didn't quit at all. They just joined up together as one new network, The CW. They felt like it was best for both parties involved. Both networks closed their doors on September 18, 2006, the same day CW premieres. The CW's schedule contained the most popular shows from both networks and two original CW programs – The Game and Runaway.

FOX will have a new mini network, My Network TV, starting on Tuesday, September 5, 2006. This network is going the telenovelas way – soaps that run for 65 episodes each till the next one comes along. The telenovelas are very popular among the Spanish viewers on Telemundo and Univision. The first telenovelas are Desire and Fashion House; they will have weekly recaps on Saturday nights.

Biggest New Hit: Deal Or No Deal was #13 on NBC Mondays. Well, NBC has another hit game show on their hands. Then again, what's up with the three episodes a week? It seems like that NBC is pulling a Millionaire. We know all about Millionaire and ABC fiasco. The Millionaire started out great; ABC ran it to the ground with five episodes each week. Hello, NBC! Wake up before it's too late.

British Ties:

The Office was based on BBC's The Office, starring Ricky Gervis. Stephan Merchant and Ricky created the series.

Death: John Spencer died from a heart attack on December 16, 2005, four days before his fifty-nine birthday. His death was written in The West Wing as Leo McGarry suffered the same fate. Both of them are alcoholics and divorcee. John was actually the first actor cast in The West Wing.

Movies 2 TV: Blade: The Series was based on the 1998 Wesley Snipes movie.

Name Change:

2002

2002/03 – CSI: Crime Scene Investigation was #1 on CBS Thursday.

Note: Any BOLD shows were cancelled in 2002 season; Futurama was cancelled in the fifth season.

Anniversary:

Frasier celebrated ten years on NBC.

Late Show With David Letterman celebrated ten years on CBS.

NYPD Blue celebrated ten years on ABC.

COPS celebrated fifteen years on FOX.

Inside Edition celebrated fifteen years in syndication.

60 Minutes celebrated thirty-five years on CBS.

Biggest New Hit: Joe Millionaire was #3 on FOX Monday. This show hooked the viewers since it first aired. It was intrigue and suspenseful. Were the ladies really in it for love or for money? Sure, he was handsome and has lots of money. In "reality," there was something up – he has the looks, but no money. He wasn't a real life millionaire like all the ladies believed. He was an average Joe with a construction job. It was a ratings success that the producer extended the Joe Millionaire format overseas next season. It didn't do anything good; nobody was watching the so-called NEW Joe Millionaire. The reality show was a one-time thing.

Death: Lynn Thigpen died of cerebral hemorrhage on March 12, 2003. She was on The District with Craig T. Nelson.

Movies 2 TV

My Big Fat Greek Life was based on the 2002 Nia Vardalos movie, My Big Fat Greek Wedding. The entire cast reprised their roles for the movie, except John Corbett. John was in the Lucky series in the same season. Either My Big Fat Greek Life or Lucky didn't make it to a second season. Lucky premiered on April 8, 2002. A week later, My Big Fat Greek Life was cancelled.

Tremors was based on the 1990 Kevin Bacon movie. Michael Gross reprised his role for the series.

Name Change: 48 Hours to 48 Hours Investigates.

Remakes: WB's Family Affair – Nobody was willing to watch the new one like many failed remakes from years ago. The Fugitive. Fantasy Island. The Twilight Zone. Alfred Hitchcock Presents. Come on, Hollywood writers! Give us something new and refreshing to watch!

The Return:

American Bandstand returned to network TV after a thirteen-year absence. No kidding, dude! Really, it is partly true. Dick Clark was the producer of the new 1960's show American Dreams. He had a great ideal to incorporate old American Bandstand footage in the show; one of the characters, Meg Ryan, was a dancer on American Bandstand. Some Today's popular singers and actors portrayed the famous singers of the 1960's – Wayne Brady (Jackie Wilson), Kelly Clarkson (Brenda Lee), Chris Isaak (Roy Orbison), Usher (Marvin Gaye) & Brandy Norwood (Gladys Knight).

David Caruso – Yep, he's back! He failed miserly with his last series, Michael Hayes, not the fabulous Freebird wrestler, in 1997. LOL. David was an original cast member of the controversial police drama, NYPD Blue. As soon as David became famous, he ditched NYPD Blue for a failed movie career. This time around, David won't give up a good thing in CSI: Miami. He learned from his mistake the last time.

Richard Karn replaced Louie Anderson on Family Feud. Richard was best known on Home Improvement as Tim Allen's sidekick.

NBC revived Hunter with the original actors, Fred Dryer and Stepfanie Kramer. Hunter was last seen on NBC from 1984–1991.

Let's Make a Deal returned to prime time after a thirty–two year absence.

The $100,000 Pyramid returned to syndication as Pyramid after a eleven-year absence.

Spin Off:

American Juniors from American Idol – less popular spin off for the kids to be in a band.

CSI: Miami from CSI – the same show, different city. At least, Law & Order is NOT doing the same show. Every Law & Order show is different.

Switch Networks: Grounded For Live went from FOX to WB.

Tidbits:

Monk started on USA Network in July 2002 & ABC the next month. Monk lasted on ABC till December 2002, while continued to be a huge hit on USA Network. Monk always started their seasons in July.

Kim Delaney was fired from CSI: Miami; she was the worst criminologist ever. PERIOD. Really, she had no chemistry with David.

Courage The Cowardly Dog ended on my brother's birthday.

Tom Everett Scott and David Bulliard, what can I say? Except for one thing, please "do over, that was then." The past is the past no matter what. Even so, we need to learn from our mistakes.

Joey McIntyre, the former New Kids On The Block, joined Boston Public as a teacher, Colin Flynn. This was his first acting role in a series, besides the New Kids On The Block cartoon in 1990. My grandmother died on his birthday, December 31. Like they said, "Out with the old, in with the new."

Joey's former NKOTB mate, Donnie Wahlberg, starred in a new NBC series, Boomtown, this season. Donny's brother is the famous Marky Mark, a movie star and singer.

All American Girl did very poorly in the ratings that ABC finished the series on ABC Family Channel.

Firefly lasted for three full months from September 20–December 20.

Jeannie Garth and Amanda Bynes of What I Like About You shared the same birthday, April 3rd.

John Woo's Once A Thief finally aired in the states after four long years. Canada's CTV aired the series in the 1997/1998 season.

Lance Bass and Joey Fatone of N'Sync were in separated NBC talent series. Lance was the regular judge for America's Most Talented Kid, hosted by Mario Lopez. Joey was the host of Fame. Both series didn't last long for either of them.

NBC previewed She Spies in the summer of 2002. It was quickly pulled after three episodes, then it begun a two year run in syndication.

Jesse James claimed to be a relative of the outlaw, Jesse James. Sandra Bullock and Jesse was married on July 16, 2005 in Santa Barbara.

2001

2001/02 – Friends was #1 on NBC Thursday.

Note: Any BOLD shows were cancelled in 2001 season; The X Files was cancelled in the tenth season.

Anniversary:

America's Most Wanted celebrated fifteen years on FOX.

48 Hours celebrated fifteen years on CBS.

20/20 celebrated twenty-five years in ABC.

Biggest New Hit: Leap Of Faith was #9 on NBC Thursday, tied with Will & Grace. Here's a theory – Having a top 10 hit DOES NOT mean you have a top 10 hit. Leap Of Faith didn't receive a second season. Chicken Soap was a big time flop in 1989; it was #13. Even that show didn't last a season. All together now, "Having a top 10 hit DOES NOT mean you have a top 10 hit." Case closed.

British Ties:

American Idol was based on Pop Idol; Simon Cowell was the judge too. Will Young won the first Pop Idol.

As If was based on Channel 4 series with Emily Corrie reprised her role in the states.

Dog Eat Dog was based on Dog Eat Dog; Ulrika Jonsonn was the BBC host. It lasted from 2001–2003.

My Guide To Becoming A Rock Star was based on The Young People's Guide To Becoming A Rock Star, a Channel 4 series.

Never Mind The Buzzcocks was based on the hugely popular BBC Two series.

Movies 2 TV: The Dead Zone was based on the 1983 Christopher Walken movie. UPN passed on the pilot; USA Network picked up the series.

Name Change:

WWF Smackdown to WWE Smackdown in May 2002 – WWF changed their company name to WWE to avoid any more conflict with WWF, World Wildlife Fund, who had the WWF name longer than WWE. World Wrestling Federation became World Wresting Entertainment. Please get the "F" out!

Wednesday 9:30 (8:30 Central) was pulled after two weeks. It returned as My Adventures In Television in May 2002.

The Return:

Primetime Live returned as Primetime Thursday after 20/20 went back to one night on Fridays. Thou, 20/20 Downtown continued as a separated series for one more year.

John Schneider returned in Smallville after a three-year absence. He was previously on Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. He was well known as Bo Duke on The Dukes Of Hazzard.

Courtney Thorne-Smith returned in According To Jim after a one-year absence. She was previously on Melrose Place & Alley McBeal in the 1990's.

Gil Bellows returned in The Agency after a one-year absence. He was previously on Alley McBeal in the late 1990's.

Jerry O'Connell returned in Crossing Jordan after a three-year absence. He was previously on Sliders.

Jason Alexander returned in a failed series, Bob Patterson, after a three-year absence. He was previously on Seinfeld.

Cartoon Network revived Dexter's Laboratory for two more seasons. It last aired in 1996–1998.

All That returned to Nickelodeon with new cast members; the series skipped the 2000 season for a complete overhaul. Since they took a year off, it will begin at season one again. All That begins their seventh season.

Simultaneous: Jerry Orbach was in Law & Order and Encounters With The Unexplained.

Switch Network:

Buffy, The Vampire Slayer went from WB to UPN.

Making The Band went from ABC to MTV for the last season.

The Outer Limits went from Showtime to Sci-Fi Channel.

Roswell went from WB to UPN.

CBS pulled Wolf Lake off the schedule for low ratings in October 2001; UPN started to show it in April 2002.

Tidbits:

24 do 24 hours in a day nonstop. It is the most action packed end of the seat show that you can't turn around for a minute. For Jack Bauer, every minute counts. He won't take a restroom break and a snack break for neon second. From terrorist attacks to the assassination of a former president, Jack can't stop till he saves the day…again and again and again…

Enterprise is the first Star Trek series without Star Trek in the title and has a theme song too.

Emeril was Emeril Lagasse's first sitcom. Man, Emeril better stick to what he does best – cooking. Kick it up a notch! Bam!

Reba was Reba McEntire's first sitcom. Unlike Emeril, Reba was a pretty good actress; she fits just right at home.

Crossing Over With John Edwards originally started in July 2001 on Sci Fi Channel.

Mark Burnett produced Combat Missions. One of the Survivor contestants, Rudy Boesch, was the base commander on the series. Rudy was in the third place on Survivor in 2000.

Judge Marilyn Milian replaced Judge Jerry Sheindlin on The People's Court.
