Biography of an Up, Bustle & Out DJ When the world focused on Bristol, names like Massive Attack, Portishead, Tricky, Soul II Soul and Up, Bustle & Out exploded in to existence. Up, Bustle & Out didn't run to the major record labels, but chose a humbler route – the Independent label. Up, Bustle & Out signed with the UK's most famous label NINJA TUNE, and their sound pioneered the London Label and carried their reputation internationally. No other Ninja artist released the volume of work that Up, Bustle & Out did with 5 albums and 13 EP singles.
DJ Rudy, the creator, writer and producer is an unusual character seeing music as a story, a journey and a road to new experiences. DJ Rudy always experiments with sounds, as a student inherited his uncle's 1970's vinyl funk record collection, spent most of his time, in between studying, DJ'ing on the cool Bristol Scene, hosting a 2-hour weekly Pirate Radio Show and hanging out in record shops between London and Bristol. At 18 years old he produced the first 12" EP cut for Up, Bustle & Out – 'An African Friendship' – an instant success and was the golden key to labels, remixes, promotion, international DJ'ing, press and a long and accomplished writing and production career.
As a DJ, Rudy is not looking for attitude, just cool, happy party vibes – mixing up Beats, Hip Hop, World Grooves, Jazz, Reggae, D&B, and FUNKY sounds from vinyl, all with originality, a confident flare and with an edge of mystery as found in Up, Bustle & Out recordings and releases. He also brings street-artist stage banners, colourful and contemporary, original Super 8 and 16mm film-footage for projections, adding to a unique and memorable evening.

This book documents the experiences of recording the 2-album 'Cuban Master Sessions Series', released on Ninja Tune Records and receiving global praise for his efforts in recording, filming and writing whilst in Cuba. "The book provides a well-written, often poetic, travelogue with some interesting insights, rather than in-depth analysis. Mould describes the injustice of the US blockade. He outlines the Revolution's social gains but voices concerns about bureaucratism and restrictions of democratic rights. His outlook is that of a radical liberal and humanist. He is mainly concerned about Cuba's right to self determination, without seeing the Cuban Revolution as an intrinsic part of the global revolutionary process. However, Mould stands on the right side of the barricades in the struggle to defend the Cuban Revolution, and Rebel Radio's unusual combination of radical politics with poetry, prose, film, traditional rhythms and modern beats works surprisingly well." Each year from October through March, in small towns across Japan, thousands of dolphins and small whales are confined and brutally killed. These slaughters take place in fishing towns including Taiji, Iki, Ito, Futo and Izu. During those months, Japanese fishermen herd whole families and pods of dolphins, porpoises and small whales into shallow bays and mercilessly hack them to death. Most of these small cetaceans are sold as meat in restaurants and stores, while some are destined for a life in captivity.
In addition to the small cetaceans being massacred on the beaches, Japan kills approximately 100,000 more marine mammals (primarily Dall's porpoises and also dolphins) in its fishing industry. This killing must stop! Sea Shepherd has been in the forefront of fighting against the slaughter of dolphins, whales and all marine wildlife for over 25 years, and we are committed to ending the barbaric and senseless slaughters in Taiji and other villages in Japan.

It's very tempting to go out on a limb and say that Up, Bustle and Out are the most exciting dance music collective currently releasing music in any genre. No matter what genre or style they experiment with, they manage simultaneously to do honor to its traditions while also creating music that is undeniably their own. For their eighth album, they traveled to Monterrey, Mexico, and collaborated with the Control Machete hip-hop crew; the result is some kind of deliriously funky cumbia-hip-hop-reggae-dub fusion that simmers and bubbles with a constantly changing but consistently brilliant and spicy heat. Turntablism, dubwise sound effects, Latin percussion, rap en español, and Jamaican toasting are all woven through the fabric of this wonderful album, and there is literally not a single boring or even underwhelming track. Particular highlights include the turntable-fueled dancehall strut of "Mi Chat Latin," the smoky Spanish dub-hop flavor of "Genio del Dub," the swaying minimalist funk of "Tinto Tintero," and Kabanjak's Latin-reggae remix of "Corazón del León."
