"We actually recorded the songs for Generica five in November of 2007. When we put out "April" we were toying with the idea of releasing it as a JCRB album because the style was such a departure from previous VAST music. But then I thought, just because the music is different that doesn't mean it has to be a side project. Plus, a side project with the same members seemed a little bizarre. As we were recording the songs that would eventually go on Generica five we planned on putting them on a VAST album. Commercially it would have made more sense because people have heard of VAST but most people have not heard of JCRB. But to me, this music isn't VAST. Around this same time, I recorded some modern sounding electronic based music by myself in the studio. It's what I think a lot of people have been waiting for. I took a detour in Austin Texas over the last two years into the folk-singer songwriter zone but now that chapter of my life is done and I am moving into a new direction.
The process of writing, recording and releasing these songs has been an apocalypse for me. Now I am ready to leave Austin and put the acoustic guitar down for awhile. I hope the music can heal you the way it has healed me. I think we saved the best for last. Thank you for listening. Take care. Sayonara."
Jon Crosby and The Resonator Band: Generica Vol. V
Hello and Happy Spring! (unless you live in the Southern hemisphere...)
The fourth Generica release features Jon with Ben, Mike, Tabber and Sam. We decided for this album to call this outfit Jon Crosby and the Resonator Band. Why? Who knows? It just came to us in a dream. There is one more Generica in the pipeline with the guys as well. This will be the closing of the chapter. Thanks for coming. Afterwards Vast will return to a modern sound...whatever that means.
We are offering this one in both MP3 format and WAV format as an experiment, you choose which file type you prefer: http://realvast.com/generica4.html
Oh yeah..if you bought Generica 3, you will be getting a free upgrade soon of a "louder" version. We messed up! Sorry.

Jon Crosby recently recorded another volume of acoustic music for his Generica series.
A few words from Jon Crosby on Generica III:
"I am exploring something different for each download. On the first Generica I stripped everything down to just a steel string guitar. On the second one I played with a cellist and on this new one I am playing with a nylon (classical or Spanish) guitar. After the winter tour ended I went to Sedona Arizona for a few days and let the coming off the road-decompression inspire me. This is the most romantic Generica. It’s also some of the first music I have ever written that is one hundred percent void of any cynicism in regards to love. Most were written during my four day visit to Sedona. This set of songs captures a moment in time for me and it’s fun to share that with everyone."

Hello VAST fans. Thank you for your support. We have a few exciting updates:
On Decemeber 30th Jon Crosby recorded ten beautiful and stirring songs for the Generica project with Adam Rebeske on cello. In the now widely mimicked VAST tradition, the entire album is available via download for only $4.99. Generica Vol II is now available. Click here to buy
"I appreciate the support you have shown me through the years, and so do the people I play and work with. Sorry but it's an insult to the fans who support us and buy our music to give the music away for free to other fans. If you want it for free go ahead and steal it. But, If I'm riding in your car and I see you mysteriously only have six of the ten songs off Generica II on your iPod, don't expect me to chip in for gas." - Jon Crosby
