Vegan A-Go-Go Book Bash hosted by VegNews Magazine

Join the VN staff and vegan-cookbook pioneer Sarah Kramer on Friday, October 3rd at the GingerRubio hair studio and art gallery—set in the San Francisco's vegan Mecca, the Mission neighborhood—as we honor the long-anticipated return of the beloved authoress and officially launch her new, retro-themed and innovative offering, Vegan à Go-Go: A Cookbook and Survival Manual for Vegans on the Road. This pocket-sized nugget is filled with the best of new and classic travel-friendly recipes, as well as sections offering travel tips and veg-tailored trip-planning guides—all punctuated with coy photos and kitschy oldwives' tips. Ginger Rubio, with its vegan product lines and provoking art, is a salon in both the cosmetic and 17th Century-sense, and is the perfect place to mingle with fellow ethical-vegans—feel free to bring your canine companions! Indulge in cruelty-free 50's fare including hors d'oeuvres and root beer floats, adorn yourself with a faux tattoo or two, and enjoy a reading by the evening's guest of honor. Tickets ($25 for subscribers and $30 for non) include a complementary copy of Vegan à Go-Go! and a chance to win sassy door prizes! RSVP before they sell out!

Music Issue Launch Party Volunteering Opportunity!

VegNews Magazine will host a rockin' Music Issue Launch Party Thursday, June 26 at San Francisco's Electric Works gallery. Guests will revel in delicious vegan nibbles, fabulous live music (featuring Lavay Smith & Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers), organic cocktails, a sumptuous dessert buffet, tour-bus treats from roaming candy girls, and the company of a couple hundred fun-loving vegetarians. Silent auction items include a lunch date with vice-presidential candidate Matt Gonzalez, Whole Foods shopping sprees, cruelty-free makeup gift bags and to-die-for leatherette handbags, vegan cookie baskets, signed vegetarian cookbooks, and more. All proceeds will benefit the Humane California campaign.

We're looking for some top-notch volunteers to keep the event running smoothly, and in return, you'll be treated to free tickets to the party, a souvenir VegNews t-shirt, and a VN signature tote bag loaded with vegan goodies. If you've got talent and experience that matches one of our volunteer openings, send us an email by Monday, June 16. All volunteers will need to be available for one evening of training (roughly 2 hours) before the event and from 5pm until 10pm the night of the event. Here's what we need:

—The front end. You'll greet guests, coat-check, and manage the guest list. Yours will be the first face anyone sees at this five-star event.

—Get-this-party-started crew. Help set up tables, magazine arrangements, and recycling areas. Once you've completed your assignment, the party is yours to enjoy. At evening's end, you'll whisk it all away again as though it never happened.

—Superstar servers. If you can pass hors d'oeuvres like nobody's business, are excited about giving guests details on the yummy food they're eating, and want to be one of the most sought-after people throughout the evening, this is the job for you. Serving experience preferred, but not required.

—Hall monitors. Just like in grade-school, except this time it's your job to roam around the snazzy room and make sure the space is clean, tidy, and running smoothly.

—The back end. This is the perfect position for those who prefer behind-the-scenes action, getting all the gossip while simultaneously making sure that the hors d'oeuvres are ready to leave the kitchen at the right time.

—Candy girls. In the grand tradition of cigarette girls at nightclubs, we're looking for two outgoing volunteers to mingle with the crowd. Instead of peddling cancer sticks, you'll be giving away awesome vegan treats!

VegNews is nominated for "Best Vegan Publication" in the 2008 Vegan Environmental Awards!

Because this is a British award, with almost all of the nominees being European, it's a real honor just to be nominated.
Again, none of these honors would exist without our readers and supporters!
