Amazing Weekend in Charlotte
I just returned form an amazing weekend in Charlotte. The girls and I went to perform at Big Mamma's House of Burlesque, as we often do. It was such an overwhelmingly positive experience I had to blog about it!
Everyone's performance was superb! I have been contemplating a move to Charlotte for some time, and mentioned this a few weeks ago when I was in town a few weeks ago. I had several local performers excitedly ask this time around if I had decided yet. It really made me feel good to know I was not only welcome, but wanted in the cast. White Lightnin has been a sisterhood to me. I'd like to think in moving I would be adding to a family versus trading an old one for a new. In the time that we have been travelling to Charlotte, there has been a lot of mutual inspiration among the performers. I think it is what this is all about. The comradery backstage makes the whole night fun. I enjoy preparing for the show as much as performing. I think all of the performers in the show stretched their wings last night, and it made for the best show ever!
The cherry onthe sundae was the audience response. The crowd was awesome! They cheered and applauded and hooted and hollared. After the show, probably about a dozen people came up to me to compliment me on the performances (the other White Lightnin Girls, as well as my own). One shapely blond bombshell ran up, gave me a hug, and declared, "You're my hero!" I was so flattered and caught off gaurd, I didn't know what to say. She explained that not only was I "real" but that she is a huge Elvis fan (I did a number to an Elvis song), and was blown away by my performance. I thanked her profusely for coming to the show and told her how much she'd made my day. I honestly can't put into words how that makes me feel. The highest compliment I can receive is when a woman from the audience tells me she is inspired or empowered by the fact that I am a regular woman, confident in my own skin. That is the real reward of doing what I do. I love being onstage and the applause, but at the end of the day knowing I made some woman in the audience feel sexy, beautiful, and good about herself is incredibly meaningful to me. Embracing the beauty within and owning that power is a life changing force. The thought that me, a hillbilly girl from Wildwood, can tap into that by putting on the paint, powder, and fringe, and shaking my Irish washerwoman ass on a stage, blows my mind. I feel incredibly blessed and am humbled by it. I am so lucky to have such an opportunity. Life is not a dress rehearsal. If this is my 15 minutes of fame, I want to spend every second of it paying it forward.

The Mating Call of the North American Dumbass
I just wanted to share a funny little thing that happened to me last night. My bf and I were on our way home from having a beer last night. We made a stop at the gas station near the house that we commonly frequent. He went in for a few things and i stayed in the truck. I noticed a van parked next to us with an obviously drunk early 20ish young man inside. He was staring at me profusely. I tried to ignore it and began checking my phone messages. After a moment his companions returned to their vehicle, climbed in and began divying up their stash of junk food. The drunk guy in the van took this as his cue to draw attention to me, "Hey, Look! It's a freaky Chick!" When this did not grant a response he wanted, he began making a monkey-like noise similar to the one the singer from Disturbed "Ooh-wah -ah-ah-ah!" That earned a glance from me to see what in the hell this guy was doing, which unfortuanely was misinterpreted as encouragement. He launched into this lovely serenade:
"Ooh! I lika freaky chick...a letcha hit it anyway you want it, FREAKY CHICK! Let me hit from behind FREAKY CHICK...Ooh-wah-ah-ah-ah!"
At this point his friends began to swat at him and groan, but this didn't dismay the resiliant North American Dumbass:
"Hey, Freaky Chick! Can I have your number, FREAKY CHICK? I'll make you like it, FREAKY CHICK! Gonna make you beg for it, FREAKY CHICK! FREAKY CHICK! Ooh-wah-ah-ah-ah! Urr Urr!"
At this point, Thankfully his friends drove away before he could finish his frighteningly de-evolved mating ritual.

New Year's shaving o' the friend list
Hey everybody! Happy 2007! It's a new year, and I am, yet again, shaving my friend list. When it gets too large, it is just not manageable. So if I added someone I don't know personally, and haven't had contact with them in the past 6 months, I delete them. If you think I have deleted you in error, shoot me an email. Also, I will be updating my profile with new pics and a new look soon! Happy New Year, may 2007 be your best year ever!
