Xrite Color & Hue Test
Category: Art and Photography

Xrite Hue Test

Prior to taking this test I was unsure if I could distinguish between some of the color chips. Now that I know I'm able to see the hues correctly, can you?

Olugbenro & Glazer’s - 9/6/08
Category: Blogging

Yesterday was an inspirational day to say the least. Glazer's camera is holding lighting talks and demonstrations this weekend over at their main store as well as their lighting and rental stores. They are also having a sale–10% off all of their lighting equipment.

At 6:30PM last night, a relatively new studio was having an open house for photographer, Olùgbènrò Ogunsemore. Great atmosphere and very nice people. Hasselblad, Epson and bowens representatives were present and showing their expensive product. The studio actually hosts a full production business. There are sound studios, green screen, video editing suite, make-up/dressing area, client suite as well as a design suite all in this building.

Around 8:00PM Benro brought a model onto the seamless and set up his Profoto setup and explained how he shoots and works with models from start to finish. If you take a look at the following picture, you can see that he was shooting tethered to a 24" iMac. The detail was amazing when viewing the file at full size.

After talking with Benro for a minute or two, I noticed that he uses a large, definitely custom hand strap. I asked him about it and he quickly filled me in. Benro had started a company called Grip60.

"Grip60 hand straps were created to help stabilize and customize your camera by providing control, support and freedom while shooting. Grip60's patent pending designs were fashioned by a professional New York photographer that could not find a product currently in the market to address his need for comfort, provide a secure camera hold, offer storage and easy access to memory cards, and offered a choice of styles that made a personalized statement." - Grip60.com

After trying one of these out, I can say that they in fact provide superb support and are comfortable. They are a little bulky but that is because of the memory card storage flap. Check these straps out at Grip60.com

Marcus Eaton Trio
Category: Art and Photography

The Marcus Eaton Trio is comprised of three members. A bassist–James, guitar & singer–Marcus, and a percussionist–Kevin. Each of them have amazing talent and I noticed that when they play live, not only do you hear and see them putting out great music, but you also get to see each of their talents working in unison.
I was first introduced to the music about a year ago by Dave. Dave and I worked together to get some shots for the band and since then I've been helping the band out. It's great to get a chance to be part of something that I really enjoy listening to. Check out these older posts on Dave's blog:

-Trio Promo
-Published Premier Guitar

The show was at The Gorge and Marcus played before Dave Matthews went on stage. Once again, great performance by the band. They were joined part way through by DM member, Tim Reynolds.

I couldn't seem to get my WP audio plugin to work with .m4p files, so I've attached a movie clip which is even better. For tons more videos go to youtube and type in "marcus eaton".

Lightning Sunsets - 8/17/08
Category: Art and Photography

No not really, but wouldn't that be cool? We didn't have them both at the same time but rather a day apart. The first shot I'm posting, was shot over on Beacon Hill looking towards downtown Seattle. I shot it using a .9 (3 stop) GND (graduated neutral density) filter. The reason for using this type of filter is so I could properly expose the ground and still keep the sky from overexposing.

Beacon Hill Sunset

Last night, technically this morning, was the first time I'd actually seen lightning strikes this close to Seattle. The lightning was about 10 miles off at one point. The best of the show was at about 4AM, going till about 4:30AM.

I have posted some random photos below from the weekend as well. They are from the same night as the first sunset photo I posted up above.

Santogold - L.E.S. Artistes
Category: Music

There are music artists that you can listen to everyday, three times a day. Santogold is one of those artists that has such an awesome voice and puts out great tracks. One of my favorite songs of hers is L.E.S. Artistes.

I found the music video to the song on youtube and posted it below. The video is driven by one of her life experiences, giving it such a personal feel. I also have posted another song below to listen to when the video has finished.

Searching & Ride
Category: Blogging

You tend to not realize how large a city is until you can't find what you're looking for. These past two weekends a friend and myself have been looking for some bmx trails/jumps that I was told were on Queen Anne. Well needless to say, we didn't find the trails, but we did stumbled upon quite a few great locations to shoot photos and some interesting vantage points looking over Seattle as well as a more northern look towards the University of Washington.

Lake Union Seattle

This shot has nothing to do with the search except for the fact that you can see just how large Queen Anne is. Check out the Map print out below.

Seattle Searching

The darkened area is the area that we covered twice. The area where the lines are drawn is the area that we only passed through. If anyone knows the whereabouts of these so-called trails, please leave a comment or send me an email.

WAAALL-E

One of the best movies released this year has been Pixar's Wall-E. Wall-E is about a robot, who spends every day doing what he was made for. But soon, he will discover what he was meant for. I don't want to give too much of the story away because there is very little dialogue.

Check out these few clips. We all know the animation is amazing, but now they're just showing off!

The Draplin Project
Category: Goals, Plans, Hopes

Yes, this video has made its rounds and yes it has bad language, but it is a must see for those who haven't. I agree 100% with what Aaron is saying about design pollution. I'd suggest bookmarking his site for viewing later. The Draplin Project sounds like it could be interesting. They've already done some great work for Union Bindings, Coal Head Wear, Snowboard Magazine, Ride Snowboards and the list goes on.

Hi-Res Quicktime version of the video here.
