I was really disturbed by an interview I heard the other day with the singer from a famous rock group. In the interview, he said that he used to try to write lyrics that meant something, that communicated deeper themes. But he said that he had grown "past that stage of my life", and the new album that they put out is filled with "songs that have a good beat, and have catchy, rhyming lyrics."
He went on to say that "They really don't mean anything, (the words) just sound cool together."
This is one of the saddest interviews I've ever heard. This songwriter started out trying to say something, to communicate with people. He ended up with a shell, a form of music that used to stand for something, but has lost its power forever.
This poor man. In the end, if you can't find a good enough reason to say anything, you're left with an ominous silence. All the words and musical genius in the world won't fill it up.

Our awesome videographer Emily Curry has been really busy over the summer running camera for Charter Cable TV, but she managed to get together a bunch of podcasts of a trip we took to Clinton, IA to film our iFall music video.
We'll be releasing one a week on our profile. Be sure to stop by every Friday to see the newest one!
Let me say this right up front: I don't believe that Al Gore has it all right.
I'm going to come out of the closet- I'm a conservationist at heart. It drives me crazy to see trash in the woods by our house, to see sewage run-off into creek beds. Is it really necessary to bulldoze all the trees under every time you want to put up a new plastic neighborhood? Can't we leave some woodland for wildlife somewhere, maybe think about not supporting unbridled urban sprawl?
Watching Judas has been trying to figure out a way we can help for quite awhile, even if it's in a small way. Which is why I was really excited when the Race for the Rivers Festival contacted us about being on the line-up. They're a group of conservationists that are actively working to clean up the Missouri river, and it's actually working. Check out their website: www.racefortherivers.org
If you like saving cute little beavers, fluffy waterfowl, and rocking out to great free music at the same time, we'll see you there . . .
I'd like to thank you all for the incredible support you gave us during the battle of the bands this month! For those of you that missed it, Watching Judas competed in a contest to be in a brand-new music festival that's going on this year at the Family Arena, in Saint Charles. It's being hosted by our good friends and supporters from iChannel.fm, and they've dubbed it iFest.
Watching Judas did great at the semi-finals of the contest. We were competing against some of the best indie bands in the metro St. Louis area. So many of you showed up, we were able to make it to the finals.
We worked harder than the band has ever before to put on a great show, but despite our best efforts, we lost by a tragic 2 audience votes in the finals.
It was heart-wrenching for us all, but we felt so supported, it almost felt like a victory to us. Fans showed up en mass, we took 2nd place overall, and we had a rocking good time!
Thanks to all of you that made the evening so special. We may not be playing at iFest on August 16th, but we will be rocking out at the Festival of the Little Hills instead. Looking forward to seeing you there!
Cheers,
Eric
P.S. If you can, please support iFest 2008.it's one of the biggest indie music events to ever happen in St. Louis, and it's going to be an awesome show!
