... and I retire
Category: Blogging
I blogged on my artist page a lot of the reasons why I will stop performing my original music live earlier this week. They are not ALL of the reasons.
It was very heart-warming to get some of the responses people sent. Apparently I even made a few misty. You can only imagine how I feel.
Making this decision is scary. Making it public - even more scary. It's an acceptance of a reality I'm now living, a day I honestly never thought I'd see come. Ferris said "life moves pretty fast" but even he could not have any idea the break-neck speed in which it passes by.
I will be continuing to perform with The Emergency Broadcast System every weekend. It's a LOT of fun and there would be no point slamming on the breaks to that project right now.
I may even dream up a new original project that fits into the now.
However, the [munk] I have been is playing his last show this Friday @ The Middle East in Cambridge MA. Please join me in throwing one last bash.
Thanks to all. [m]

A Blog From The Blogophobic
Current mood: amused
Category: Blogging
Is that a word - "blogophobic"? If not than TM baby! I call shotgun.
So where the hell have I been?
- In March I released my third CD "Modest Among The Living" (available on iTunes, Amazon, CD Baby, etc).
- Played a big Casino show in RI for the CD Release.
- I was featured in the May issue of Billboard Magazine (WAY too cool for words - I honestly never thought I'd see the day).
- Performing most weekends around New England with The Emergency Broadcast System (we'll be in Nantucket this weekend playing The Chicken Box June 12, 13, 14th.
- Celebrating my son Trey's 9th Birthday June 14th (yes that means back and fourth on the Nantucket Hi-Speed Ferry that day to make the show that night). I'd do anything for that boy!
- I went to LA for a friends 40th and did some biz with Music Supervisors while there.
- I also got some rad new ink (check it in the pics here) at High Voltage (LA Ink) while in Hollywood.
- Started contracting for a big agency called Digitas when I returned (they don't seem to mind the ink). They have approached me with a Associate Director position, which means I'll be on track to VP. (I know - makes me do a double take too).
- Been house hunting for what seems like eons with little luck finding the right match.
- Last and best, the Mrs and I had a beautiful bouncing baby girl on 5/24 named Raegan Sophia (my little "Sugar Rae")
All that and we're only half way through 08. Every time I feel like the grass is growing under my feet, I have to compile a bullet list like this to remind myself my life is anything but static.
And believe it or not there are more plans for the rest of the year. I'm in the throws of putting together a new music project. More on that later. It's just time to shake the tree with something radically different.
(*sidebar) I've been HYPER focused on playing guitar as of late. I'm enjoying it more now than I ever have in my life and I am loving "the hunker down" effort to finally make the leap from "a guy that plays guitar" to a "guitar player". Need a guy?
I may be winding down [munk] business as the year wears on. 2 more shows are on the books (check the schedule here). It's quite possible that the very last show EVER my be Friday August 1 at The Middle East in Cambridge, MA. Feeling like it's time to move on (but you know me - I could change my mind and do another [munk] CD next year).
For now it's time to focus on my family, new job, new music that makes ME say "how fucking cool" and enjoying the Summer (I may be looking for a boat soon!).
That is all. Keep in touch y'all!

Finding Old Family Photos
Category: Blogging
Recently, while visiting my mother, I came upon a treasure trove of old family photos. In my copious amounts of spare time, I've been restoring them. I haven't seen some of these in a thousand years, and some never at all. It's oddly fascinating to see myself as young as I am in some of these pics - younger than Trey! It's like looking at someone else's kid.
More interesting are the pics I've found of my grandparents in the 40's shortly after they were married. I've taken extra time restoring one of them and now have it in a frame on my night table.
Thank God for the digital age eh? Restoring old photos and the new digital ones will never need a re-touch.

Time Won't Let Me Go
Current mood: enthralled
Category: Blogging
I know, I know... two blogs in one day. Don't start looking for snowballs...
I just wanted to comment about the song I just put on my page. I found it while looking up a guy that used to play drums for me around the time I was doing shows to support "Anime Sweetheart" (around 2002). Good solid drummer, fellow Long Islander (which is always interesting when you run into one in Boston) and a nice guy. He's now playing with The Bravery.
I listened to the first disc a while back and wasn't that into it. Then recently, their new disc The Sun and The Moon came out and 'Time Won't Let Me Go' has been rattling around in my head ever since. It's not about the lyrical sentiment because I wouldn't "change everything if I could go back again" but the little intro melody, the chorus vocal "woo oo" background and the general vibe of the song are just REALLY freakin' catchy.
I don't often make recommendations but do check out The Sun and The Moon. Really good disc. If you go see The Bravery, tell the drummer [munk] said "Yo Ant'nee!!!"

Motivation
Current mood: calm
Category: Blogging
...something I am lacking in the extreme these days... not out of depression or a sense of being overwhelmed...but of contentment. This is NOT a word I am intimately familiar with. I like it. A LOT. I'm just far mellower these days. Everyone close to me comments on this regularly now. Oh, I 'm not fooling myself at all - SOMETHING will tickle my ire before long. This will likely spark a creative tear, but for possibly the first time in my life, I'm not searching for that which insights me for the benefit of my songwriting. I'm on a creative and mental hiatus. It's really nice. For now, it's a novelty to focus on coming home, relaxing with my bride, my son and my pooch on the porch, watching a sunset with a beer in one hand and a cigar in the other and not rushing to continue working AFTER I get home from work. I think the workaholic in me is finally meeting his demise. Good riddance. I may actually live longer.

Just Call Me "Mr Jefferson"
Current mood: crazy
Well we're movin' on up...
Once again we are moving. We've been in this house for only a year and I cannot tell you how unhappy I've been here. Something about this house is just SUCKING the life out of me and I have never been able to put my finger on it. We LOVED our place in Somerville but moved here to be closer to my boy (his mom is only 5 mins from here and we split the week). For THAT, it has been awesome. But LORD this house...
So "The Future Mrs. [munk]" and I JUST happened upon a luxury townhouse scenario, not too far from here, that we just fell in LOVE with. I've NEVER been so psyced to actually pack up a house and get the hell outta Dodge.
Hey thanks for the comments on the pic of me and the "Mrs". That was shot by the uber talented Cheri, whom I HIGHLY recommend for your photographic needs.

I really will try and get here more often so I can touch base with some of you one on one and not in "promo-mode".
Hey, speaking of "promo-mode" please do check out my new site at www.waxboy.com
