helping friends, sharing haircuts and guilty pleasure tracks
hi friends, just wanted to send a quick email to help a couple good friends out.they're a married couple who just moved here from paris...read on about them and you may get a special guilty pleasure track as a reward....
Sebastien: kick ass hair-stylist,--a former art director and instructor at Toni & Guy now working at a salon downtown. considering the caliber of his experience, and considering that this is new york the rates are pretty cheap. if you need a haircut, swing by and check out the website: http://www.coiffeurnyc.com
Nathalie: serious music/film enthusiast looking for work in one of these fields--or something equally as fun and creative. if any of you need a french tutor/translator, she's your lady. she also has extensive work experience as a financial controller, and has a master's in economics, finance and marketing. in paris, when she wasn't working, she djed at indie/electro parties and did a bit of singing. Nathalie would be interested in doing stuff in finance, but would be even more interested in working in something less suity. let me know if you want her resume and i'll be more than happy to send it over.
"You Are My Density" by Sensitivity Training http://www.zshare.net/audio/41373581afe455/ as a reward for reading this (or as a punishment for not reading this) i'm giving you an opportunity to laugh at my expense. here's a link to a joke track my friends and i made at work. it took about 4 hours and involves me "rapping". i also wrote the lyrics in an hour--it's really just a taste of my inappropriate lyric-making talents...hit me up and i'll spit more game for you.

the key to the apartment i'm staying at in paris got jammed into the lock as i was trying to get in from a night out, so i ended up waiting at the doorstep from 430-530am. my friends who i was staying with were obviously knocked out cold because they didn't hear the many phone calls and buzzs i was leaving them. eventually, one happened to get up for the bathroom and was able to let me in.
i'm now awake in a haze. all three of us have been trying to fix the lock to no avail. the kids have to take a train to normandie and i have a flight to catch tomorrow so all we can do is jerry rig the lock so that it doesn't latch into the door and hope the door bolt will be enough to deter theives from busting in.
i'm somehow supposed to pack and say goodbye to some more friends and then get my ass to an all night wedding reception before catching an early morning flight tomorrow. i fear the next 24 hours like a politician fears a wiretap.
to top it all off, there was a party at the louvre last night with the most ridiculous lineup--the rapture, justice, ttc, para one and boys noize....yes, in the louvre. i was in berlin when tickets were still available. when i got back the show was sold out and i slept on getting on the guestlist until it was too late. about 4 different people told me they could've hooked me up if i had contacted them earlier. then a few hours before the show started another friend left me a voicemail saying that a friend had 2 extra free invitations to the show but she needed an answer in the next 5 minutes. i didn't get the message until 20 minutes later. i will say that later that night my friend, dj absurd, told me about a gig he was playing at. i went and ran into marvy, an old buddy who i befriended last year in paris. that was a nice consolation.
as i got home around 430am, i thought i was meant to not party at the louvre because i would've raged on until sunrise and would be assed out the next day. it looks as if i was meant to be assed out.
oh, and come monday i will no longer be on holiday. what a way to end it. this is almost as wack as last year when i had a flight leaving heathrow the day the liquid terror plot was uncovered.
there's only one way for me to avoid having bad luck like this--never stop being on vacation.
back in my day, we believed in something called privacy!
as you all know (or maybe not), i use myspace as a tool for keeping in touch with people. i share my interests on my profile page because i don't mind connecting with others of similar interests and making new (real) friends (like hang out in person). in addition, i only blog about stuff i think is cool or about a trip i'm taking. you won't see any "dear diary" entries here. i'm not judging anyone who does that, but it's just not my thing.
anyway, here's an interesting article about how kids these days have a different sense of privacy than what previous generations had...and their main dirty landry forum--crazy shit like myspace! i have to admit, i think the writer over rationalizes the fact that a lot of kids are kinda overdoing it with the pouring their hearts out to any creep with a computer...but whatever, read for yourself.
As younger people reveal their private lives on the Internet, the older generation looks on with alarm and misapprehension not seen since the early days of rock and roll. The future belongs to the uninhibited.
woulda posted this earlier but everytime i'm about to i always find myself advising someone not to put so much of their personal stuff online...inevitibly they're the same people that are like--hey, did you put that online because of me? no dude, i don't take the internet that seriously.....
speaking of blogs. i contribute for trashmenagerie.com...i'm due to post on all the crazy goings on in the music world of paris. will let you know when that's up!
Paris: not really jet lagged, but already partied out
so it's day 3 of paris and i'm already pooped. lots happened over the weekend...on saturday, there was a street party to promote teki latex's new album. it began just a few hours after i landed. straight from there i had a nice big meal at Le Chartier, then after that this word of mouth party at some big one-off location in the marais/bastille. sunday, i went to Parc de La Villette for a free concert and then spent the night watching a movie with my friends. afterward, i could've gone to sleep but instead thought i should blog about teki's party on Trashmenagerie, for which i'm a contributor: Teki Takes It to the Streets
