That is all that comes to mind when I heard Cindy McCain unleash yet another low blow attack on Obama while stumping in Pennsylvania. Funny how the campaign that kept screaming "leave families out of it" when it came to very valid discussion of Palin's teenage pregnant daughter and abstinence only teaching is now using their children as political pawns. Here's part of Cindy's screed:
"The day that Sen. Obama decided to cast a vote to not fund my son when he was serving sent a cold chill through my body. I would suggest that Sen. Obama change shoes with me for just one day and see what it means ... to have a loved one serving in the armed forces and more importantly, serving in harm's way. I suggest he take a day and go watch our fine young men...and women deploy, get on those buses and leave with a smile."
The Say No 2 Campaign, the bi-partisan group dedicated to defeating Florida's dangerous and deceptive Amendment 2, has just released a hard hitting new commercial. It highlights the numerous groups and newspapers that have come out against the so-called "Marriage Protection" Amendment, as well as the devastating effect it will have on the rights and benefits of all unmarried Floridians. Watch it here:
Make sure to make a donation to the Say No 2 Campaign to help get these ads on the air where they can reach the most number of people. Right now the campaign has been given a generous matching grant, so your donation will go twice as far! The polls are looking extremely close, but together we can defeat this Amendment!
Mayor Naugle of Fort Lauderdale Spews More Anti-Gay Hate
Category: News and Politics
Sigh... Isn't he out of office yet?
Raging bigot Mayor Jim Naugle of Fort Lauderdale has once again used his office to unleash an attack on the LGBT community. In a press conference yesterday, Naugle came out in support of Florida's dangerous Amendment 2. Of course Naugle claims this has nothing to do with his now famous hatred for the gay community, saying:
"It's about defending the institution of marriage, which should be defined as between one man and one woman."
It looks like McCain and Palin are willing to do anything to win- including inciting fear, anger, and violence in their supporters.
As the McCain campaign has stepped up the negative attacks and smears, the audiences at their rallies are getting more and more outlandish. Shouts of "traitor" and even "kill him"- in reference to Obama- are popping up all over the news. I wonder where these supporters are getting this kind of anger from.
Perhaps it is from the McCain Campaign's continued efforts to link Obama to Ayers? Maybe Palin saying Obama "pals around with terrorists"? Could it be every spokesperson from their campaign- and their negative ads- calling Obama "risky"?

EXCLUSIVE: Interview with Obama’s Deputy Campaign Manager
Category: News and Politics
I recently had the chance to talk to Steve Hildebrand, the Deputy Campaign Manager for the Obama Campaign and the highest ranking gay staffer for the campaign.
Steve has spent more than twenty years organizing some of the most targeted and high profile political campaigns in the nation and is recognized as one of the best political strategists in the United States. Working extensively in South Dakota, Iowa and Minnesota, Steve has managed races and ran two political parties. He served as Midwest Political Director for the DNC during the Clinton re-elect in 1996 and as Political Director at the DSCC in 97/98. In 99/2000, Steve ran the Iowa caucuses for Vice President Gore and ran the Women Vote! Program for EMILY's List in 2000. He managed Senator Tim Johnson's campaign in 2002 and Senator Tom Daschle's campaign in 2004. In 2007, decided to serve as the Deputy Campaign Manager for Senator Barack Obama's presidential campaign.
The full interview, with discussion ranging from LGBT voter outreach to Anti-Gay Marriage Amendments to a fully-inclusive ENDA, after the jump.
It seems there is a new threat to our country- an insidious danger that is seeping into our homes and everyday lives that must be stopped at any cost. That threat is intellectualism.
We have heard the some of the buzzwords of this political season- Folksy, Joe Six-pack, Elitist, and Arugula Eating. It seems the new "culture war" or wedge issue is intelligence. The Vice-Presidential debate only solidified the lines in this war. On one side, you had Palin- full of "folksy charm" and "you betcha" language. Then you had Biden, who had a command of the issues, but was called "boring" and (gasp!) "professorial" by the pundits.
Is this the point we have come to in our country? Do we really think that having knowledge about an issue is a liability? Have we learned nothing from the past eight years about voting for the person you "want to have a beer with"? Is being smart or intellectually curious a bad thing?
It seems the war is on and the Republicans have launched another surge strategy.
Fox Affiliate cancels Anchors’ appearance at Orlando Pride
Category: News and Politics
Fox affiliate WOFL-TV in Orlando will not allow their news anchors Mike Dunston and Amy Kaufeldt to attend the Orlando Pride event "Come Out With Pride." The organizers of the October 12th event have been left trying to find new emcees for the event because, as a Fox station rep says, the pride event is "too politically controversial." The rep cited a "how to vote with pride" rally and the playing of a Barack Obama speech, but not a John McCain speech. It is a flimsy excuse, however, since the "vote with pride" is just a theme for an educational event and there is no Obama speech on the line-up of the event- and both campaigns have been invited to participate.
Mary Meeks, media/rally chair for Come Out With Pride, told the Orlando Sentinel in response:
Celebrity Gossip Blogger Perez Hilton, better known for dishing the dirt on Hollywood starlets, is using his popular website to get political. In a post yesterday on the hugely popular PerezHilton.com, Perez (who is a native Floridian) urged his readers to educate themselves about and vote no on Amendment 2 in Florida:
"It's not just California in a fight for equality!
Perezzer's is a native Floridian and we felt obliged to bring an important issue to the attention of y'all in our home state!
Take a moment to look closely at Amendment 2, which is seeking to write discrimination into law."
