pan-seared halibut

i just made delicious.

i sauteed sweet corn and yam cubes in black truffle butter and mixed it with tomato. i rubbed halibut with pesto, salt and pepper and pan-seared it with the corn, tomato and yam in more truffle butter before i put it in the oven at 475. then i made spanish rice with onion, garlic, cilantro, tomato, and jalapenos. i made a salsa with the remainder of the yam/corn/tomato by adding hella avocado and jalapeno and more tomato.

i plated it by slicing half an avo on one side and half a tomato on the other side of the plate. put rice down and halibut on top.

it was gorgeous and amazing. prolly pictures to follow!

i am:
Current mood: tired

dirty, sticky, sweaty, sore, exhausted, and my feet hurt. and holy shit do i love it!

i plated 12 chocolate-center cakes, 10  brownie sundaes,  5 peach dumplings, 5 pannicottas and 3 creme brulees. the kitchen is short, too, so i'll be learning how to do everything they need. ie skin roasted beets, which i did for like a half hour today.

it's great too, because everyone feeds me! chef mario gives me things to try, the fry guy always hands me stuff, and i can ask basically anyone for food. and there's a family dinner towards the end and it's BOMB.

i was originally going to only work three days a week, but i guess they like me so i'm going to be doing four.

BEST JOB EVER

i TOTALLY just got hired via telephone call to work/train as an assistant to a dessert chef! three days a week i'll be learning how to make yummies and plating them at a fancy restaurant!

the guy i'll be assisting to used to be the dessert chef at firefly which is an AMAZING restaurant. i've totally eaten the desserts there and taken pictures of them and said they were the best ones ever.

and my semi-lack of knowledge won't be a problem! i mean i know a lot about food and i love it but i can't make it all. she said i didn't even really need to know anything about food and i totally know a lot!

I AM SO EXCITED

i was shaking for like an hour after i talked to her!

birds of avalon/ ted leo!

i went to a show tonight at the bottle tree! the place is friggan rad and so was everyone there. the first band that played was birds of avalon, whom i'd never seen or heard of before but they totally ruled. kinda black sabbath-esque on the guitars. then ted leo and the pharmacists came on, and i wasn't really expecting them to be good since last time i saw them at coachella it was kinda lame. but they ruled too! i met a lot of rad people!

other things i've done out here:

i saw ben folds and john mayer at some huge Verizon Wireless ampitheatre. ben folds ruuuled. i'm glad i've seen him. john mayer's a good guitarist but his pop songs got really lame really fast.

also saw mikhail baryshnikov with the hell's angels dance group, and they ruled. baryshnikov is getting creaky but you can still tell that homie can dance.

caroline's coming in soon! yay! i can't waaaaiit for it. then thursday morning we're driving to north carolina for grace long jr's wedding. then coming up soon after that i'ma see ben kweller somewhere, i'm super stoked about that.

i'm sleepy! i'ma watch more degrassi, take a shower and go to sleep!

one of the cats brought in a baby bird and the boys are taking turns eating it.

i would take it away, but they already ate the head, so there's not really much left. plus i feel like julian ate the head and didn't let bruno get any, so i'm letting bruno lick at it right now. but it's basically disgusting.

in other cat news, i'm starting to worry about riley. i haven't seen her since i got back from coachella.
