II SEMINÁRIO MÍDIAS NATIVAS Brasile - São Paulo, 25 - 27 Marzo 2008
Rappresentanti e gruppi di indigeni brasiliani, dei villaggi e delle periferie urbane, si riuniranno, dal 25 al 27 marzo 2008, nel II Seminario Mídias Nativas che si svolgerà nell'Auditorium Lupe Cotrim dell'Università di San Paolo del Brasile (25 marzo) e nel centro culturale São Paulo (26 e 27 marzo). In questa seconda edizione, il convegno (già presentato nella sua prima edizione nel 2006) vuole continuare il dibattito sulle nuove forme mediatiche prodotte dai nativi brasiliani, che attraverso le tecnologie comunicative si esprimono in video, blogs, siti internet, diffondendo una cultura di auto-produzione.
L'obiettivo del seminario è presentare una forma tecnologica del sociale che si diffonde nei gruppi marginali storicamente oggetto di politiche e di azioni solidali. Attraverso l'appropriazione delle nuove tecnologie digitali, di basso costo e largamente disponibili, si moltiplicano narrative e produzioni indigene di contenuto originale.
L'evento è ideato da Cepop-ATOPOS (Centro di Ricerca sull'Opinione Pubblica in Contesti Digitali) con la collaborazione dell'Associazione italiana Zoe onlus, e vedrà la partecipazione, fra gli altri, di:
- Jurandir Siridiwê presidente dell'Istituto di Tradizioni Indigene (IDETI) - Naine Terena, autrice di un video-diario sull'etnia Terena - il gruppo realizzatore del portale Indios On-line - Olívio Jekupé e Giselda Jerá scrittori dell'etnia Guaranì - Alessandro Buzo, Tião, Gil do site Forte di Bocada, comunicatori e produttori della periferia urbana di San Paolo.
Il governo dal Canada, attraverso il suo Consolato di San Paolo, presenterà una delle presenze indigene rappresentative del popolo Algonquim, la regista Evelyne Papatie accompagnata dall'antropologo Manon Barbeau, coordinatore del progetto Wapikoni. Contemporaneamente, saranno presentati alcuni film e video realizzati dai nativi brasiliani e canadesi e l'esposizione di prodotti culturali di produzione indigena canadese e brasiliana.
L'apertura dell'evento Mídias Nativas vedrà, inoltre, la presentazione della prima Cattedra Indigena, iniziativa che vuole riunire nello spazio accademico dell'Università di São Paulo (nel 2°semestre del 2008), rappresentanti di varie etnie indigene brasiliane che terranno lezioni sulle conoscenze e sui saperi dei nativi. L'obiettivo della Cattedra Indigena è quello di presentare, all'interno degli spazi del pensiero accademico e scientifico, il pensiero nativo contemporaneo, storicamente sconosciuto e marginalizzato, propiziando un dialogo interculturale capace di mettere in relazione la produzione di saperi e conoscenze diverse.

2nd Conference MÍDIAS NATIVAS

Representatives and groups of Brazilian natives will gather, from 25 to March 27 th 2008, in the II Mídias Nativas Seminar, taking place in the Auditorium Lupe Cotrim of Sao Paulo University (25 March) and in the cultural center São Paulo (26 and 27 March). The conference aims to discuss and to show the new mediatic forms produced by Natives (videos, blogs, internet sites, radio) spreading a culture of auto-production.
The objective of the seminar is to introduce a technological form of social context that spreads among the marginal groups, historically object of politics and charity actions. Through the appropriation of the new digital technologies (low cost and largely available), native fictions and productions of original content are multiplied and broadcasted.
The event is conceived by Cepop-ATOPOS (Center of Search on the Public opinion in Digital Contexts) with the collaboration of the Italian association Zoe onlus, and will see the partecipation, among the others, of:
. Jurandir Siridiwê president of the institute of Native Traditions (IDETI) . Naine Terena, author of a video-diary on Terena ethnic group . representatives of the Internet Site Indios On-line . Olívio Jekupé and Giselda Jerá, Guaranì writers . Alexander Buzo, Tião, Gil of Bocada, communicators and producers of the urban outskirts of Sao Paulo.
In this second edition of the Seminar (realized in its first edition in 2006) the government from Canada, through its brazilian Consulate, will introduce one of the representative of Algonquim natives, the director Evelyne Papatie, and the anthropologist Manon Barbeau. Some films and video realized by Brazilians and Canadians natives will be introduced as well as other Canadian and Brazilian native cultural products.
Further, the opening of the event Mídias Nativas will see the presentation of the first Native universitary Desk, initiative that wants to gather in the academic space of the university of São Paulo, representatives of various Brazilian natives holding lessons on the knowledges of the native people. The objective of the Native Desk is to introduce, inside the spaces of the academic and scientific thought, the contemporary native thought, historically excluded from the academia, propitiating a intercultural dialogue able to connect the production of different knowledges.
L'integrazione della diversità scoprendo la natura
Il progetto vuole promuovere l'integrazione sociale attraverso la realizzazione di escursioni finalizzate all'educazione ambientale aperte a giovani con disabilità di tipo fisico e mentale e giovani normodotati, nel IV Municipio di Roma.
Destinatari del progetto sono giovani tra i 10 e i 16 anni d'età del IV Municipio del Comune di Roma reclutati tra gli utenti di cooperative sociali concordati con la Provincia, per quanto riguarda i portatori di handicap, e tra i partecipanti alle attività dei Centri Estivi e dell'associazionismo locale per quanto riguarda i normodotati. Si coinvolgerà per ogni escursione un gruppo di 15 persone, tendenzialmente costituito al 50% da portatori di handicap.
In ancient Greek language the term Zoé means life, although the Greek language contemplates three nouns that make the meaning of the word "life": Zoé, Bìos, Psyché.
In Aristotele's thinking, the opposition between the two terms zoé ("naked life" common to all the living beings) and bìos (the "form of life" as sign and sense of the being) becomes an issue of philosophical reflection to distinguish between natural life and political existence, between man as living being and man as political subject.
In the time, inside the Greek-Roman world, Zoé comes to point out the universal concept of life, the "principle of life", common to all living beings, and in a religious sense, the "eternal life."
Italo Calvino calls Zoe one of his "invisible city", and he describes it as the city of the indivisible existence, perhaps with reference to the universal concept of life developed in ancient Greece: "...if the existence in all its moments is all itself, the city of Zoe is the place of the indivisible existence. But then, why the city? Which line does separate the inside from the outside, the roar of the wheels from the howl of the wolves?" (Italo Calvino, Le città invisibili, Einaudi, Turin, 1972).
Zo'è is also the name with which the indigenous of a Brazilian Amazonian forest tribe call themselves, a group of Tupi-Guarani language settled in the inclusive area between Cuminapanema and Erepecuru rivers, in the north area of Parà state. The Zo'ès belong to those few Amazonian ethnic groups that had experienced the contact with the "white" world only from a few decades, being for a long time unknown and isolated in their own environmental context.
Publishing initiative for literary expressions of native cultures.
ZOE onlus association has been developing cultural and solidarity projects in Brazil, particularly concerning the native context.
Through the improvement of a net that involves Brazilian universities (anthropologists of USP and UNESP) and different representatives of indios ethnic groups (Guaranì of Sao Paulo, Kraho of Tocantins, Xavantes of Mato Grosso), ZOE onlus is currently bringing forth a project of collecting literary, artistic and audiovisual expressions of Brazilian natives, in a wider context of inter-cultural exchanges, to produce publishing initiatives, audiovisual reviews, performances, meetings and lectures on the theme.
A pioneering initiative was promoted in São Paulo (October 2006), a conference named "Native Media" with exhibitions and debates between specialists and indigenous authors about new forms of natives' performances through literature, audiovisual and Internet resources. Another initiative concerns the collection and publication of essays and texts written by natives of different ethnic groups (myths, legends, historical accounts, chronicles of actuality), as significative means of self-representation and expressions of their own cultural identities. The first book will be announced in Spring 2007 (Costa & Nolan Ed.) as collective volume of native authors. The title is: "Indiografie. Saggi e racconti scritti dai nativi del Brasile" (Indiographies. Papers and tales written by Brazilian Natives), Costa & Nolan Ed. 2007
A further volume addressed to european children will be published by Zoe onlus association and distributed in schools as well as spreaded to a wider public in conferences and meetings on the theme. The book will collect the most important myths and legends of the Brazilian native world and will be equipped by sketches realized by native children belonging to indios villages that share the same mithology. It will be published in different european languages (Italian, French, English and German).
The publishing project has character of social solidarity as the main part of the proceeds of the sale will be devolved to native communities to which writers and children painters belong.

PENSIERO NATIVO CONTEMPORANEO Iniziativa editoriale per le espressioni letterarie delle culture native.
L'associazione ZOE onlus ha da tempo avviato in Brasile progetti culturali e di solidarietà che riguardano in particolare il contesto indigeno. Mediante la costituzione di una rete che coinvolge realtà universitarie da una parte (antropologi docenti presso le università brasiliane di San Paolo USP e Marilia UNESP), e indios di diverse etnie dall'altra (Guarani dello Stato di San Paolo, Kraho del Tocantins, Xavantes del Mato Grosso), l'associazione ZOE onlus sta attualmente portando avanti un progetto di raccolta delle espressioni letterarie, artistiche e audiovisive del mondo indigeno brasiliano, in un ampio contesto di intermediazione culturale teso a produrre iniziative editoriali, rassegne cinematografiche, mostre, incontri e conferenze sul tema.
Una delle prime iniziative riguarda la pubblicazione di saggi e testi di narrativa indigena che hanno per oggetto miti, leggende e storie di finzione da una parte, resoconti storici, visioni del mondo e cronache di attualità dall'altra, quali importanti forme di autorappresentazione e di espressione della propria identità culturale.
Il primo libro vedrà l'uscita nei primi mesi del 2007 presso la casa editrice Costa & Nolan (Milano), come volume collettivo che raccoglie testi di saggistica e narrativa di autori indigeni. Un ulteriore volume dedicato ai bambini sarà pubblicato in proprio dall'associazione Zoe onlus e distribuito presso le scuole italiane, durante le iniziative pubbliche dell'associazione, in occasione di convegni e incontri sul tema. Il libro raccoglierà i miti e le leggende del mondo nativo brasiliano e sarà corredato da disegni realizzati dagli stessi bambini indigeni.
Il progetto editoriale qui ipotizzato, coadiuvato dalle istituzioni universitarie brasiliane sopra citate che fungono da partner del progetto, ha carattere di solidarietà sociale in quanto il gran parte dei proventi della vendita del materiale pubblicato dall'associazione ZOE onlus sarà devoluto alle comunità indigene cui appartengono gli scrittori, oltre ai diritti d'autore previsti nel contratto con la casa editrice Costa & Nolan.
Attività previste: - Pubblicazione di un volume collettivo che raccoglie saggi e testi di narrativa di alcuni autori indigeni appartenenti a diverse etnie brasiliane. La pubblicazione avverrà presso la casa editrice Costa & Nolan (Milano); - Pubblicazione di un volume collettivo rivolto al pubblico infantile che raccoglie racconti, storie e leggende tratti dalla mitologia indigena brasiliana, pubblicato in proprio dall'associazione ZOE onlus; - Presentazione dei volumi pubblicati presso Fiera del Libro di Torino 2007, librerie (Feltrinelli, Melbookstore), biblioteche pubbliche (Sistema bibliotecario comunale di Roma), Università (La Sapienza e Roma Tre), scuole di secondo grado e presso altre istituzioni interessate a Roma e a Milano; - Invito degli autori indigeni in Italia per le presentazioni dei libri e per la partecipazione a conferenze e dibattiti sull'argomento, accompagnati dai due antropologi delle università brasiliane partner del progetto, che introdurranno i testi pubblicati; - Promozione dell'iniziativa mediante ufficio stampa, mailing, locandine e materiale pubblicitario, passaggi radiofonici e televisivi.
Welfare societies of the industrialized countries and the progress of technology involve huge damages to natural resources, producing pollution, energetic waste and irrational consumption of raw materials. The consciousness of the lack of sustainability of such development model is starting an unusual sensibility in the production processes, involving studies and deepening of echo-compatible productive passages. Sustainable Design (or also Biodesign) previews therefore the planning of products with compatibility characteristics in every passage of their life-cycle, through the following steps:
- study of the life-cycle of products; - use of less polluting and thriftier technologies; - recycling and sustainable redesign of existing products.
Zoe onlus is running a workshop on Biodesign in Italy, an experimentation in techniques of unfired earth (adobe) for the realization of design objects. The use of unfired earth as a building material, which is part of the ancient tradition in many countries, is reconsidered for the improvement of echo-compatible quality in self- building objects.
Le società del benessere dei paesi industrializzati e il progresso della tecnologia comportano ingenti danni a scapito delle risorse naturali, producendo inquinamento, spreco energetico e consumo irrazionale delle materie prime. La mancanza di sostenibilità di tale modello di sviluppo sta diffondendo nel processo produttivo una nuova sensibilità, che si esplica nello studio e nell'approfondimento di passaggi produttivi eco-compatibili. Il Design Sostenibile (o anche Biodesign) prevede la progettazione di prodotti con caratteristiche di compatibilità ambientale in ogni passaggio del proprio ciclo di vita, attraverso le seguenti fasi:
- studio del ciclo di vita dei prodotti; - utilizzo di tecnologie meno inquinanti e più parsimoniose; - riciclaggio e ridisegno sostenibile di prodotti esistenti.
Zoe onlus seleziona artisti e artigiani che sviluppano progetti di design sostenibile e organizza workshop e altre iniziative di promozione e sviluppo del concetto di biodesign.

Between the end of October and the beginning of November the traditional Day of the Dead is celebrated in most parts of Mexico. In the village of Atzompa, a few miles away from Oaxaca, the indios zapotecos gather at the graveyard bringing food, photos, alcohol, cigarettes and whatever the dead liked, spending all night awaiting the homecoming of the souls of their own beloved. Following the trail of copal smoke and the flower petals the souls rejoin their relatives and rest after the long journey. The festivities continue over the following days with the comparsa de los enmascarados, masked revellers who wander around the streets and the houses of the village, dancing and playing. They shall scare the souls and force them to go back where they come from, marking the return to the profane time of everyday life. Via a dialogue of images of the festivity and Aztec and Spanish accounts of the Mexican Conquest, the performance of the "Fiesta de los Muertos" takes place, a syncretic blend of pre-Hispanic traditions and catholic believes.
Director: Cinzia D'Auria Anthropologist works as a researcher at the University of Rome " La Sapienza". During research works abroad she made some films about social and religious issues. In particularly about the Saints' cult in Cuba (Santeria), Indios Xavante in Brazil, social problems of the Rom in Bulgaria and voodoo's cult in Togo.
Sinossi Italiano
Tra la fine di ottobre ed i primi di novembre si svolge in Messico la tradizionale Festa dei Morti. Nel villaggio di Atzompa, a pochi chilometri da Oaxaca, gli indios zapotechi si recano al cimitero portando cibo, fotografie, alcool, sigarette e tutto ciò che piaceva ai familiari defunti, trascorrendo la notte in attesa dell'arrivo delle loro anime. Seguendo il sentiero tracciato dal fumo del copal e dai petali dei fiori, le anime ritornano nelle case dei propri familiari dove trovano altari adorni di offerte di ogni tipo, e vengono onorate con cibo e bevande. La festa ha il suo culmine nella comparsa de los enmascarados, persone mascherate che si aggirano, danzando e suonando tra le case del villaggio, per indurre le anime a tornare da dove sono venute, sancendo il ritorno al tempo profano della quotidianità. Nel film documentario, attraverso il dialogo tra le immagini della festa ed alcuni brani tratti dai resoconti aztechi e spagnoli della Conquista del Messico, prende corpo la performance della Fiesta de Los Muertos, espressione sincretica di antiche tradizioni pre-ispaniche e culto cattolico.
Bio-filmografia regista Cinzia D'Auria svolge attività didattica e di ricerca come antropologa visuale presso l'Università di Roma "La Sapienza". A seguito di attività di ricerca all'estero ha realizzato alcuni video su problematiche sociali e religiose. In particolare sulla Santeria a Cuba, sugli indios Xavante in Brasile, sulla situazione sociale dei Rom in Bulgaria, sul culto del vodou in Togo.
